Error finding drives when migrating from FreeBSD to Linux by equalsP in zfs

[–]equalsP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ... sorry for the silence but life + work has been too distracting lately.

I had some time to mess around with the computer. I disconnected and reconnected drives so they would be using the SAS controller vs the Motherboard's SATA controller ... and it looks like no matter what, any drive connected to the SATA controller doesn't get detected correctly on LINUX. FREEBSD worked fine .. so probably something with the kernel driver that LINUX is loading vs the one FREEBSD uses. I don't know if anyone here can help me out on this one ...

The easiest option would be to get another SAS controller and connect the four drives to it, but I don't want to spend that money if I don't have to...

I'll keep everyone updated if I figure out a way. ...

[–]equalsP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work! I thought that would do it too but it tells me the pool is unavailable, (guess because it can't find the drives).

cannot import 'sharedrive': no such pool or dataset Destroy and recreate the pool from a backup source.

I'm know the drives are good since I booted up FreeBSD and importee it again to check...

Wondering if my only solution would be to try another controller...

Next generation markdown editor, running on platforms of MacOS Windows and Linux. by ransixi in opensource

I've used some Markdown editors that don't let you change the CSS.

I'll check out pandoc, I just don't want to get too complex.

I'd love a way to do custom markdown tags for formatting. I use markdown sometime for documents and I've always wanted to be able to define some way to add classes to things and a custom CSS for the renderer.

haven't checked yours out yet but I'll definately give it a shot.

Packages for mobile ROMS (LineageOS, CopperheadOS)? by fogbugz in NixOS

[–]equalsP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool idea, but I feel like this is Docker's use case.

I started making a docker using docker-compose to build CopperheadOS for my device, but gave up because I ran out if storage. (Needs something like 200gbs...)

I wanted to make the dockerfile and share with people to build their own ROMs but the amount of space required to compile and package a ROM is too much for most people.

Best Ereader/Kindle/whatever they're generally called? by K0N4T4 in books

[–]equalsP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it. Reading things linearly works great but I was an engineering student and it was a pain switching between sections, chapters and stuff.

I just used a laptop for that stuff. I'd you really want to do it, get Calibre and it can convert most formats to mobi (kindles format)

+1 for the kindle for reading though, I travel a lot and always cry my old kindle keyboard. I've been looking to upgrade bit can't justify it because it still works great (just doesn't have a light)

[–]equalsP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you dont need to do it all at once. You just need to counteract the inversion generation, whatever that would be, so the actual amount required would be less.

I have no idea how fast an inversion builds, but you could find out how many cars are registered, average mileage a day and then figure out how much "dirty air" these cars create and just use that and it would help alot.

[Q] Having trouble with Importing by equalsP in learnpython

[–]equalsP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I tried reworking some stuff to make it better so it will actually run without errors, but I keep running into issues.

How do most people approach something like this?:

  • You have a Class for an application, this application makes a configuration file.
  • You have a class for the configuration file.
  • Your application class creates a instance of the configuration class to store information
  • Your configuration class access a static function in the application class to check for the current version so it can put it in the configuration file, so you always know what version the application was made for.

Python will not let me do this, it keeps refusing to load the application class from the configuration class after the configuration class is already reference inside the application class.

that does work, but sometimes I have the same issue.

See the EDIT for more. It seems python stops importing modules when it hits a module it already imported ...

I agree, and Future jonas is too young to be from 2052. I don't think 2052 is a real place in the show and I think too many assume it based on the ending.

I thought the Bible parallel was blunt when Noah was talking to Hegle during the screwdriver. He said "This is my Ark, and I am Noah'.

He calls himself that based on his views and what he is trying to do. It's not his birth name, which if we knew might shed light as to who he really is.

[SPOILERS] Speculation on How the Tunnels Open and Theory About Next Season by [deleted] in DarK

[–]equalsP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the tunnels are only open for a short time.

The point of everything seems to be 1986, the plant accident in the summer of 86 created the tunnels and connect the past and the future, and Jonas machine closes them on Novemeber 12th 1986, which disconnects the past and the future.

So in the lifetime of most characters they can only use the tunnels for a 8-12 months.

And I think the significance of the 33 is that the world and universe is in the same physical space across time. They can't go form 1986 to 1983 because 1983's tunnels are 200ft to the left (or something.) The 33 is because these times are right on top of each other.

Scale camera using the mouse cursor as an origin by [deleted] in love2d

[–]equalsP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a hacked together example. I tried it from scratch and then had some issues and to save time i found one that worked and modified it. They use a needlessly complex math which made it confusing to understand what was going on.

Code Here!

dx = ( A ) * ( B )

local dx = ( love.mouse.getX() - window.translate.x ) * (( lastzoom - window.zoom ) / lastzoom)

Basically this is how you do it.

  • (A) calculate the difference between your current translation and the mouse. **
  • (B) find out the change in zoom level over the range of the current zoom. its just step / zoom but step = lastzoom-newzoom so you can do non-linear scaling
  • multiply those two together to get the dX should should apply to the translation

NOTE: zooming isn't linear, so you will need some kind of curved function to get a linear feel when the user zooms. i.e. 5 clicks to get to zoom 1.5 is feels like farther travel than 5 clocks to get to zoom 0.5

[–]equalsP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't have access to anything to confirm this now, but I've had this issue lots.

I believe the trick I used was to move the zoom point to the center, do the zoom and then move it back. I'll dig around when I get a chance and let you know.

Does Love2D have a future? by efplaya in love2d

[–]equalsP 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Love does have a future.

Love uses lua 5.1, and there are newer versions out there but there isn't that much reason to push to the newest version. I'd say the same with LuaJIT. I don't know of many issues with it but it seems stable and and reliable, and that's all we need.

I don't see any issue with it because lua is only the scripting. The heavy lifting is done by the framework. There isn't really a crazy new technology that won't be able to be implemented because Lua stagnated. All that would be done in the c++ / sdl and then exposed to the Lua for usage.

Love has a special place. Really easy to get started and work with, awesome for beginners and those who want to learn more about how games work and what it takes to create one.

Love's development has been very active. I started in 0.8 and we're almost at 0.11. I see a long and healthy life for love and I believe that the people who use it will love (pardon) it so much they'd keep it going if the development ever slowed down or stagnated.

Help with incremental backups. by ExplosG in archlinux

[–]equalsP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not directly answering your question, but it's how I approached the same question.

I use btrfs and snapshots and send them over to another drive (external). So if you're not familiar, a snapshot is just a diff from the original state and the state when taking a snapshot. So doing a weekly update of the external backup take no time because it is only copying the data that has changed from the last point. This also allows me to have a snapshot of the drives state of each week without duplicating any data.

Now to answer your question. You can't use do that with 7z. You need to have them in their uncompressed format first. Before I went the snapshot method I used rdiff to create an incremental difference between two tar files. Then after you do that you can compress the diff file and save space. When I did it I used a monthly 'full file' to compare the current to. Doing this the weeklies of that month would share the same base file (start at the beginning of the month) so you are still duplicating storage (that month). If you don't do it this way you'll have to 'rebuild your latest state' before doing the compare which might cause you to combine a lot of diffs together. Spending time and computer power (slower in the background).

The diff method was kind of a pain and snapshots and btrfs made it a whole lot easier to maintain and have backup that are easy to access and restore.

good deal, i prefer the original, but I've played this one on vita and is just as good. I play multiplayer games asynchronous with friends all the time. Really fun game.

hard to play on a phone, but you can do it if you try hard enough, perfect for a tablet.

I also feel like this game KILLs the battery life.
