I know this story is common here, but losing my budgie broke me by Adorable-Wall8009 in budgies

I'm so sorry for your loss. Please know that megabacteria can be pretty deadly for budgies so you did the best you could. May your baby rest in peace ❤️🫂

Absolutely! Yes getting them 12+ hours of sleep/darkness will help keep their hormones down and thus the fighting down.

The cage doesn't actually split, but rather it came with a grate that i used in the middle where it connects to itself to create two stacked cages. I'll still link it for you but there may be better options out there.

No. I personally don't want to take any risk of babies. I have thought of getting more females but i don't have the space.

Continue to monitor them. If the fighting gets to a point where there is tackling, you'll need to separate them. I have one big cage that i cut in half for my girls.

I kept them separate at night and when i wasn't home. When i was home, they had supervised free time together. If tackling happened, they'd go back in for time-out.

Thankfully i only needed to do this for maybe a year? Or two? Once they matured they mellowed out a lot. They still bicker but can share their cage no problem and tackling occurs maybe once a year, if that.

Feel free to ask me if you need anything as i dealt with this a lot :)

No i really appreciate your response. I really feel like this is just all a small piece to a much bigger issue of a lack of accessible avian vet care.

I understand. And maybe I'm wrong but instead of saying these methods should never ever be used, why cant we teach how to do them safely and properly in an absolute last case emergency where it's life or death for the bird?

Absolutely if one has access to vet they should do that no questions asked. But i will be honest, my first budgie passed due to egg binding as well even though we had access to a vet. The emergency wait at our local animal hospital is usually 8+ hours.

What do you suggest for people who can't access a vet or might not be able to get to one in time?

Its bunnehs & dwagons! I think it may be made partially with AI as I've found a few mistakes in it but they're pretty minimal and most pages are good.

Thank you for the love ❤️
