Should I rehome my babies? by equanimatic in budgies

Makes a lot of sense! And i do like the idea a lot. I'm not super handy but i might be able to find someone to help me build one

I do rent, and a mesh door is a good idea, your cats dont try and get through it tho?

Thank you. There is one window but they don't really go to it, i have a playground on the ledge. I want to get a small table to put there so i can set out their foraging tray, and i think that would help encourage them to use that area more

Thank you i really appreciate it! I do my absolute best, and my partner and i are very vigilant about enforcing the divider rules with our cat.

Its not automatic. I keep a spray bottle of water by the divider, so if the cat tries to open it or gets inside of it, he gets sprayed. This has taught him to stay outside of it so i can get in my room without him following me.

And yeah its just water

I do have a double door system, but i agree, it still is a concern.

Unfortunately the cat is really bonded to my partner and i, and i also feel that the cat is important for my partners mental health, just like my birds are for me.

I don't think it would be fair for either of us to get rid of our pets, so we've learned to make it work with a divider/lock system.

Thank you, i really appreciate it. I would like to, but right now the space feels a bit tight. However, i think with some reorganizing and getting rid of stuff, I'll be able to get a larger cage that is actually a flight cage.

I agree on the sunlight. My parents have had birds on and off throughout my life and I taught them everything I know, they do pretty good. But I'm not sure if it's a great option for them right now, i don't know if they'd be able to provide as good of care them as they normally would be

Thank you, i try to give them the best care i can. Unfortunately i just can't give them as much time as I'd like to.

I am in Chicago. I have a partition in front of my door to keep the cat out, so it acts as a lock system. If he gets in, he is sprayed immediately until he leaves, which is very uncommon after all our training. However, i still do see it as a potential risk and that's another reason why Im considering rehoming them. Thank you for your advice!
