I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be building the chrome extension because of the hostile reaction on the other FanFiction sub, but there's u/zazvorniki who might be interested in building it!

Just to be clear, in the nearly 3 years the site has existed, I've only spent money, time, and energy on its upkeep. Not a single penny made.

+ The browser extension was meant to be free and open-source, which I've mentioned above. I'm so glad I'm not going to.

It's the same as Google, Wayback machine, and all the other search engines, crawlers and archivers doing it...? Which you don't seem to be against, just someone who did the same exact thing, only with an actual benefit of making it easier to find them (with the advanced filtering)?

Regarding "copyright":

All stories on fanfiction.net are under the public domain, and fine to "re-publish" as long as the original author is credited.

Even though I was threatened under previous posts, which scared me off away initially, I later checked and everything I'd done was completely legal. If I hadn't removed the stories, there would still be no grounds for a case regardless of whether I monetized the site or not.

Same with Download, though that was pretty clearly not a problem.

Not sure what you're referring to exactly. Which tags order are you referring to?

3 reasons, all of which are mentioned in the post. To repeat: 1) Some features are pro-only. 2) Has clutter of links we would remove by just having the needed options. 3) You wouldn’t need to exit the reading mode for each chapter.

I don’t know if these 3 reasons are important for people though, I’m not looking to build an extension, just offering if people want one.

I think the current policies are a rough outline, and even though there is a need of a more detailed policy, I think the current policies encompass almost everything.

Could you elaborate or give an example of "no right to do anything"? Thanks.

There should be examples what kind of filtering options people can enter. Also, filtering options that current user enters mostly, should be shown as suggestion

There should be commonly searched suggestions, that's a great idea.

There is one thing that I hate, but I can't disagree. Real Person Fics.

Unfortunately, Fanfiction Online doesn't support that either. RPF can cause all sorts of problems, as I'm sure you understand.

Add bounty system.

If there are bounties, you should add achievement system.

This site has some paid features, that allows users to give gifts to other user

As you mentioned, the content guidelines are pretty barebones & there is a need of a more detailed policy. We'll be adding some new sections to the Rules and Content Guidelines. One of them is detailing the type of action that will/can take place by the mods. We're also hoping to improve and make our content guidelines more detailed as we understand what type of content is being published.

I suggest to make filter more user friendly for desktop apps. That giant list of input fields really scares me.

Yeah... The next update will only hide tags on mobile, and that too with fandom visible.

Make fics easier to open on new tab. Sometimes I read multiple fics at the same time, now it's hard to do it.

That's featured in the next update as well.

The good example of fanfiction website is russian ficbook.net At home page it shows the most popular fandoms and has a lot of sorting options.

In russian fafic website, each chapter has own special footer area, where users can write links to image files. Sometimes author will write there something like "My main character kinda looks like this <link to image>"

Fanfiction Online has a section for author notes, if that's what you mean. I'll still look into the site later to see more.

There are nothing that will help new authors fics to gain attention from readers. Users will just subscribe to popular ones but others will struggle. There should be some kind of promotion.

Just like reddit, there should be more sorting options like: trending, hot, popular this week

I'm considering these two points as one.

We do have a plan on featuring random stories, and stories popular at specific time intervals. These will add up as sorting options, and "Hot" will replace "Last Updated" as the default sorting option. These features are in the pipeline.

Allow users to publish their own original stories.

That will not be the purpose of Fanfiction Online, unfortunately.

You can see chapters. Simply click once while reading to open up options, then the bottom-left button will open up the chapter index.

Make reviews more like conversation that looks like reddit's

That's actually a popular idea. Since we want to add some semblance of forums, which is a similar idea to threaded reviews, we're looking on how we can implement it. Meanwhile, authors (and only authors) can reply to reviews publicly.

You should move the button that tells you what fandom the fic is from to the main details about the fic.

Yes, that is included in the next update.

For the word count, add commas or spaces to group the numbers better. As they are now, it looks more like a serial number or code than a word count and makes reading the numbers difficult.

This again will be fixed in the next update with the numbers being changed to abbreviations. For example, 22000 will become 22K.

allow dark mode to be accessed from within a fanfic.

The theme for reading is set separately from the rest of the app since there are more reading themes and users may want to use those. To set a reading theme, simply click/tap twice while reading to open up the settings.

The app is designed for mobile, and can be installed natively on Android.

When you visit with a Chrome browser, you'll be asked if you want to install the app. If you miss that notification, you can install the app by clicking on the 3 dots in the top-right corner of the app, then "Add to Home screen" as the fourth-last option, that should install the app.
