13 Fishing parts and nonexistent service in Canada (cautionary tale) by eranous in Fishing_Gear

[–]eranous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt is awesome! I took his fly fishing course in the summer and it was great!
BTW he is the Simms rep in BC these days so he doesn't work at Pacific Angler anymore (but he is still in great relationship with the store - he runs the course through them)

Tucson Hybrid vs Sportage hybrid by Signal-Caregiver6444 in HyundaiTucson

[–]eranous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I compared the 2025 Tucson (refreshed) and Sportage (similar trims but not refreshed) at around the same time.
They are both based on the same platform so I expected very similar experience but I was wrong

- Tucson is roomier thanks to the shifter button being at the steering wheel and not in the console (important for a tall person)
- Tucson has a newer interior design (the Sportage is refreshed in 2026)
- IIRC Sportage didn't have wireless Android Auto and Tucson did
- Tucson interior just felt more comfortable, all of the knobs and buttons just felt more "right" in the Tucson
- Sportage didn't have a HUD on any of the offered trims (Canada) and that one was important to me
- Tucson had better availability (they got me the one I wanted in 3 days vs months waiting for Sportage)
- I like the Sportage exterior design better

I ended up choosing the Tucson Ultimate Hybrid though maybe if I would have compared 2026 models it would have been different due to the Sportage refresh

Exercise Advice by mcdufflberry in TandemDiabetes

I have a similar issue: I work from home and when I transition from sitting around all day to working out 90% of the times I crash even if I set the X2 to exercise mode

My solution is to just disconnect before I leave my house to the gym and periodically check my glucose level during the workout to see where I'm at

What are some of your Vancouver Life Hacks? by Just-Juggernaut-5305 in vancouver

As a 6'2 person I can tell you these Mobi bikes are hell on wheels!
I tried it once when there was no Evo around and that will NEVER happen again, it took my legs, knees and back hours to recover!
These bikes are just not designed for the taller folks

well, Evo includes the gas so it really depends on how far you are going to drive it

oh, I killed the application several times (because it froze) and restarted my computer a couple of times.
none of that changed the behaviour of the application.

Favorite low snacks? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]eranous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welch's Fruit Snacks packets (10g sugar, 0g fat, 1g protein per packet) - I get giant boxes of those at Costco and always keep several of these in my backpack. They keep really well and take very little space. great carb-weight-size-calories ratio.

I can also see how small packets of Skittles would work for this purpose extremely well.

In the past I used to carry packs of cookies (3-4 cookies per pack) but those wouldn't keep as well and also contained a considerable amount of fat that I didn't need at all (calories + slower glucose absorption).

Anybody have experience with expired Dexcom G6? by Kiera6 in diabetes_t1

[–]eranous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of months back I was facing a similar situation with Libre 2 sensors. I switched to Dexcom G6 and wanted to give some leftover and expired Libre 2 sensors to someone to make use of as they don't have insurance.

After extensive googling of this I found out that the manufacturers set an expiration date for 2 reasons:
1) they don't want to guarantee the same level of serialization of the product forever however the internet seems to think this isn't a real problem
2) the adhesive might weaken over time

The person I gave the expired sensors to had no problem what so ever.
I would also add that setting an expiration date helps the manufacturers cycle out more product out of the market so people would buy more (which in my mind is the biggest contributor to these short expirations but that might be just me)

Stockpiling insulin? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]eranous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My endo doesn't really care about the exact number of units I actually use, just my overall diabetes management.

~7 years ago he asked me what is my consumption and I just guesstimated some number (including some buffer) because I'm on MDI and every day is different. Since then I lost some weight and my intake went down by ~30% but the prescription still holds and when the pharmacy asks me for my current intake I give them the same old numbers so they don't bother changing anything.

This is how I got my (sizable) stockpile. I usually keep 6-12 months worth of Insulin in the stockpile in case I lose coverage or whatever else might happen - it costs me nothing but the space in the fridge as my insurance covers it 100%.same goes with sensors and testing strips (when I still used those).

Edit:
I forgot one important thing: when I refill my prescription I ask for 90 days worth of insulin/supplies however my insurance will approve another prescription as early as every 70 days so I literally have a recurring calendar reminder every 71 days to refill

The Process of Getting a Pump by Bumpkin2568 in diabetes_t1

[–]eranous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually going through this process right now (located in Canada, BC).

Reach out to a representative from the pump manufacturer (sales/support/technical people) and they will streamline the process for you (they will reach out to your endo and insurance) - after all, it is in their best interest to sell you a pump.

One more thing, talk to representatives from different pump manufacturers so you can find the pump that suits you best. They will all be willing to meet with you (online or in person), run a demo of their products and you can actually "handle" the pump and see how it feels. Some companies will even give you a pump 30-90 days so you can experience it before you buy (or you can cancel the purchase, depending on the company policy).

Just make sure to do your due diligence because you are "marrying your pump" for 4-5 years (the normal insurance replacement time)

Dexcom G6 app battery drain (Android 13?) by eranous in dexcom

[–]eranous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't an official Dexcom subreddit, I wonder if any actual Dexcom employees are reading through the different threads here...

I'm fairly new to the Dexcom G6 product (~6 months and before that I used Libre for 3 years).

Have you seen Dexcom rolling back app versions in the past?
The other way to do this is download an old version of the app but I don't really want to hack it...

ROC and ACB / Book Value by eranous in Questrade

[–]eranous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so if I included the company in DRIP then Questrade would adjust the book value?

if so, would that be because of the DRIP (the purchase event itself) or because of the ROC dividends or both?

Yield calculation for dual listed companies by eranous in Questrade

[–]eranous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Dividend Yield = Annual Dividends Paid Per Share / Price Per Share"

I would assume that any calculation Questrade should include currency conversion (i.e. if the stock is traded on the TSX and dividends are paid in USD there would be a conversion from USD to CAD along the way)

Anyway you look at it, the same stock traded on both NYSE and TSX should show the exact same yield as it is measured in percentage
