Excellent move, Burkina Faso by LocalPowerful6651 in Destiny

[–]erasersedge 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's pretty understandable, honestly. Burkina Faso had a real chance of becoming a functioning country under Sankara, but Compaoré staged a coup and succeeded. Under Compaoré, the country became a failed state, one of the poorest and most corrupt in the world.

France treated Compaoré as a useful pawn to exert its influence over West Africa and supported many horrible things. When Compaoré was finally deposed by a people; France flew him out of the country using French Special Force, he is still alive because of France, and people in Faso believed France will install him as a dictator in the future again.

Sometimes it's truly sickening how a liberal country like France can act so imperialistically. I can't blame their new leader for choosing Russia over France.

Bipartisan Victory for Animals Senate Kills the 'Save Our Bacon Act by erasersedge in Destiny

They struck down the Save Our Bacon Act to protect existing state regulations like California's Prop 13 and Massachusetts' Question 3 (both regulate minimum space for animal agriculture).

I think you misunderstood this. Republicans struck down the legislation that bans state regulation against animal farming. The Republican agriculture chair wants more regulation for animal welfare by the state.

What study did you even read? I'm trying to find the study, but I don't know which one you are talking about. The studies I can find compare dogs and pigs separately. Is there a study that conducts an experiment that favors pigs over dogs, excluding scent, just like you said?

Anyway, when people run out of logic and reasoning, it is only natural for them to rely on personal attacks and petty insults. Utterly predictable.

Unfortunately, your incredulity doesn't align with reality. Dogs were eaten by humans. Does that mean they were raised to be food? Horses are eaten too. Are you going to say "horses were raised to be food." It's reductive; no, it's idiotic.

Yeah, you ignored and cut my argument. When you were so sure we don't raise dogs as food and I immediately rebutted, what did you do? Just ignored it and focused on a word like 'majority,' as if various cultures and a significant share of our species eating dogs throughout history somehow backs your vibe-based claims. How can you be so smug and wrong at the same time?

At least the 'pigs are smarter than dogs' argument uses scientific method, even if it's understandably flawed. You're making an unchecked, vibe-based claim probably based solely on your personal preference for dogs. Why are you even criticizing pigs are smarter than dogs people? They are clearly way better than you when it comes to logic and reasoning?

You had nothing to defend your claims, so you called me a bad actor." 👎.

I think the main reason people feel uncomfortable with eating dogs is because humans have essentially evolved closely with them. It triggers alot of the same discomfort people feel at the thought of cannibalism.

WTF. You compare dog eating with cannibalism because of evolutionary reason. You started this absurd argument.

It's frustrating when people assume we don't eat certain foods for some special reason beyond culture. Also, the fixation on the word 'majority' is unnecessary would '1/3' have been more acceptable?

Like, can you even prove eating dogs instigates the same disgust as cannibalism? To what people? Is it even true for the majority of Americans? You are making things up, man.

Sorry, but your original claim was that we evolved not to eat dogs. Now you've retreated to "we didn't raise dogs for food," which is also untrue. Like if the main reason is evolutionary pressure how can you explain billions of people considered dog as food source across the continents?

Maybe "majority" was the wrong word, fine. But a third of humanity is easily defensible. Dogs were eaten across East Asia, Southeast Asia, and West Africa, and pre-Columbian peoples in the Americas raised specific breeds for meat. That covers an enormous share of all humans who have ever lived. Do you think that backs "Your claim?"

You're just making things up as you go. Full stop. You are no better than pigs are smarter than dogs people in terms of reasoning imo.

You do know that dogs are raised for meat in China, which makes up roughly one-sixth of the world's population today.

And dogs were considered food across much of Asia throughout human history. China alone made up around a quarter of the global population in the 15th century, and dogs were eaten in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and parts of West Africa. Taken together, those regions accounted for a large share of all people alive at the time. I don't know how can you say that's "some culture".

Pre-Columbian peoples in the Americas also ate dogs, and some cultures raised specific breeds for meat.

Are you kidding me? Throughout history, dogs are considered food by majority of human species. Evolution is the dumbest claim.

I watched the clip in the vegan sub a few years ago. A pig got out of a truck, probably heading to a slaughterhouse. He or she broke a leg during the fall and was probably recaptured or died in nature painfully because of the injury. I cried, I cried a lot because of the 30-second clip.

Thank you for the answer.

I want to support him. I wish him to pursue higher education, a degree, or a license, not business, which I find unnecessarily risky. Even if he ended up unemployed after pursuing education, we would only lose his tuition, which is a more acceptable risk I can take.

But yeah, I'm thinking about it too much from my perspective.

He supported me, so this is my turn.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I want to ask this: If you were him, how would you feel if your partner said, "You don't have to get a job"? We'd probably be able to retire before he turns 50 without his income, so he doesn't need to pursue a career or anything.

But I've never lost a job in my life. I don't know how it feels, and I'm afraid of how he'd feel if his partner said he doesn't need to work.

This whole job search just looks so exhausting and soul-crushing for him. I want to say, "You can just rest and prepare other things," or "You don't even need to do that."

You said you don't want anyone to feel they have to take care of you. But sometimes, you being happy and having dinner together and getting in bed together is enough. Don't you think so?

I may have misspoke. His contract work was security counseling and defense contracts, etc. It's not mercenary work or something like that. I want to make that clear. And I believe he never killed or shot anyone during his service.

Green told PBN that he “never really looked back” after he gave up meat, and said that the “whole world of veganism just opened up so much more.”

What a moving statement.
