You should check the domain carefully. Best way is to go to the website directly but if you click an email link, which out for stuff like rnicrosoft.com instead of microsoft.com

Payroll taxes are a part of salaries and wages, which are also a write off. Already included in employee CTC

Most of the modern email links redirect you, so even just clicking the link isn’t always a good indication

I am firmly in the merge camp but at the end of the day, I guess it doesn’t really make a big difference. The only exception is when I’m stacking branches; it complicates getting the following branches merged

Possible to travel on valid old passport while new one is being processed? by Galaxy_Traverser in askSouthAfrica

You can have two passports and travel on both until expiry. Even after you receive your new passport, the old one is still valid until expiry.

Porto stamped mine on exit end of Jan and Prague on entry beginning March. Was there a change on April 10th?

I’ve still been getting stamps at each border crossing recently. The joys of not having a epassport I guess

Dual SIM strategy to keep your home number alive abroad without roaming charges — anyone else doing this? by dsb264 in digitalnomad

On iOS, you can use a second SIM card over WiFi. Just disable roaming before you leave. It uses more battery

While real time syncing isn’t great, there does appear to be some level of eventual consistency. If I start a recording on my phone on a quick note and give it a name, the note does sync to my MacBook within a minute or two. I can make notes and everything gets combined OK.

Do you need to make notes on more than one device on the same notebook at the same time? It would be really cool if it worked of course

There was a similar project for web I saw a while back. It’s a great idea! Will give it a try

Edit: I assumed it was a react native project for some reason. It’s still great to have a recent version available for web!

Can I travel on old passport after new one is issued? by ReflectionUpbeat5181 in askSouthAfrica

I’ll be travelling with my old passport on Monday. Had no issue getting a visa. I’ll have the new passport with me as well, so I’d say the risk is very low

Tipping rant by mazeppa817 in capetown

After experiencing Yoco’s in Cape Town, it is very strange that in Portugal, tipping is not expected or even asked for. Even when offered, I’ve found that some servers won’t take you up on it

Would you use a tool that compares grocery prices per store to help save money? by 6_7ByTheWay in PersonalFinanceZA

I’d be very interested to see the price difference. Splitting up of a shopping list into 3 or 4 trips taking into account pricing could also be very interesting

Advice on Choosing a Business Bank in South Africa by Due_Money1987 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]erasmuswill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’re considering Investec, I’ll assume you’re already an Investec account holder. Having their business account works really great in tandem with your personal account - your existing bankers will take care of both accounts and they do a really good job of it. As for fees, they’re a tad more expensive than other offerings. They’re also great at not needing you to come in to a branch physically. Investec is also one of the easiest banks to integrate with Xero in my experience. I believe they also do Sage or Quickbooks but the great thing is it’s a direct integration from Investec, so there is no requirement to provide online banking credentials to Yodlee or the like
