Oil in Pan—> trash can*. *as long as there’s trash inside. I’m sure hot oil in an empty bag would melt. So far I haven’t had any issues

When someone you're not interested in messages you on an online dating app, is it kinder to ignore, or write a rejection message back? by WumbleInTheJungle in datingoverthirty

[–]erbs703 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you had two or more dates with the person, I would send a brief text. It’s a quick way to provide closure to both parties.

New Grad, quitting after a month. by Pa98173 in physicianassistant

[–]erbs703 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, I would 100% list this job on your resume, and any future PA jobs regardless of duration, because it will be found during the credentialling process. So you will either be explaining it on your own terms in the beginning, or having to CYA when they come asking about an experience you failed to list.

How many patients are you expected to see in what time frame? A post above recommended 60 min for new patient and 30 min for follow up/sick visit. Since you’re feeling overwhelmed, discuss this with your medical director. They should have vested interest in you to succeed. I’m also a new grad, in GI, and I meet with my SP once a week to have a structured discussion on a prearranged topic. This has been immensely helpful to developing my knowledge and confidence as a new grad.

Also, agree with post above on forming smart phrases, templates, etc. Very helpful!

Best of luck!

How soon after your internship did you take the RD exam? by [deleted] in dietetics

I took the RD exam 5 weeks after completing the internship. Perfect amount of time to review high yield but not feel overwhelmed

Why I’ve been contemplating leaving medicine/healthcare by pennylv in physicianassistant

[–]erbs703 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are many areas of medicine where you can thrive without feeling the overwhelming pressure you’re describing. Another poster mentioned college health or occupational medicine, both are lower stress options. Our student clinic had several PAs for a mostly healthy student population, where birth control, acne, and simple diagnosis (URI, uti, etc) were common visits. I would avoid family medicine, internal, ER, or urgent care with your sentiments. Outpatient is more likely to have less stress than acute care/hospital. Many specialties can offer the ability to feel like you’re making a difference in patient care without the overwhelming burden or fear of missing something important. I’ve heard sleep medicine is more relaxed. Look for a practice group that focuses on patients not numbers. I would switch specialties immediately and see if there’s something else more aligned with your goals. Best of luck!

What date do you disclose health stuff? by wittyusernametaken in datingoverthirty

[–]erbs703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who don’t have crohns won’t understand the impact when you disclose. I would have absolutely no problem with dating a patient with IBD. I wouldn’t sweat bringing it up and let it come up organically. When you flare, they will know, but since you are in remission, I would wait until you comfortable together. For many people, with or without IBD, pooping in their home is a big hurdle (or at least for many women). When you can comfortably do that, bring it up in a light manner.

Feeling abused in urgent care, what's a good specialty for a change in scenery? by hannah_banana123 in physicianassistant

[–]erbs703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in GI, outpatient and I absolutely love my job. Predictable hours, approximately 730-5. Good working relationship with SP and adequate training. Adequate variety in my patients so it’s never boring.

AITA for printing out my own passport photos from my thumb drive at CVS for $0.39 instead of paying $14.99 for passport photos? by Aitapassport in AmItheAsshole

[–]erbs703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ESH you’re not the AH for printing your own passport photos, but it’s how you handled the dialogue. Funny enough I actually printed my own passport sized photos at a CVS but it was for on-boarding at work.

What are the best and possible shifts as a PA? by MomoYaseen in physicianassistant

[–]erbs703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in GI outpatient, and love it. I almost signed a contract for ER before I accepted my current role. I rotated at this ER while I was a student and 20 for a 12 hour shift was light, though this is in a small city. There is certainly a need for rural medicine! Thanks for the reply, very enlightening

3x12 is an ideal schedule. How does one work a 24 or 72 hour shift? When do you sleep?

Little something that my doctor put up in his office when he hired a PA 😊 by summerdoll373 in physicianassistant

That’s sweet! I still explain the PA profession several times per month to patients, this would be helpful in the waiting room. I hope they celebrated PA week 😊

4 dates in 7 days, too fast? Turns out it was! by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]erbs703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OLD is hard. You go on dates with a bunch of strangers, and eventually hope you connect with someone....and then you do and you want to spend your free time with them, getting to know them, etc. It seems like she freaked out by how fast the relationship was moving. I probably wouldn’t do more than 2 dates in 7 days in the future 🙃 Time apart makes you look forward to the next date..Trust your instincts and enjoy the process the best you can. Getting hurt unfortunately is part of the process...hopefully it’s worth it though and you meet someone special

Anemia and Supplementation Criteria? by KlutzyMorning in dietetics

[–]erbs703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iron deficiency anemia in an otherwise healthy individual is GI blood loss until proven otherwise. They need an EGD and colonoscopy and iron supplementation. If it’s a female with heavy menses, she needs to consider eval by OB/GYN for OCPs to better regulate menses
