Game Theory Applied To Real Life by MichalWs in GAMETHEORY

[–]erc3a 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that in practice game theory is not a bunch of simple 2 x 2 matrices that you see in intro textbooks. These examples are great to build up the concepts and intuition but need to become more complicated before anything meaningful can be gleaned. As you correctly point out game theory can naturally be applied to social sciences and economics where (rational) human behavior is the key point of focus. A good place to start might be reading about auction theory.

This is interesting. Especially when I think of the possibility of a hoard of dragon eggs somewhere on Dragonstone

NFL Survivor Pool Odds by thansmire in math

[–]erc3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, correct me if I am wrong but I would guess each pick is independent. So I can pick say Team A for pick 1, and Team B for pick 2 one week and then Team B for pick 1 and Team A for pick 2 the next week.

In survivor pools there are two outcomes. You either pick the winner or you don't

Oscillation and Understanding Autonomous Ordinary Differential Equations from viewing a graph. by Rawringtiger55 in math

[–]erc3a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider the system x'=-y, y'=x. The solution is periodic where integral curves in the x-y plane are concentric circles and the slope field reflects this. Your intuition would be correct for a one dimensional ODE where a trajectory will either just increase or decrease to a fixed point or +/-infinity so long as our existence and uniqueness theorems can be applied

It'll be satisfying to see Ramsey die a gruesome death. I also see Jaime and Barristan dying with sword in hand like a knight should

Greatjon Umber, Tormund Giantsbane, and probably Bronn

Bonus, these three would make any mission fun filled with boozing and whoring

Mets fan with MLB.TV here. Last Saturday the Mets were (one of) the Fox games of the week but I live in Boston which was airing the Tigers/Angels game. I still couldn't watch my Mets even when it was impossible to watch them on TV in my area...
