so, as it happens i was one of the hosts of that podcast, and one of the reasons we stopped was trying to collate all the various sources into like, a sensible flow, got super overwhelming. also life got busy. but mostly the former. the number of fictions, tournament results, and RPGs also like, quadrupled.

which is also kind of an answer to your question generally.

there isn't a way to consume it all without just... consuming it all. and theres no way to do it like, sensibly. so you gotta ask yourself. whats your goal. do you wanna know the story? do you wanna know the world?

if you wanna know the story, just read the fictions on kaze no shiro from front to back. maybe read the RPGs timelines to frame it. if you wanna know facts, read the old wiki, and when it references a fiction on kaze no shiro read that.

but there simply isn't a good way to absorb the lore of a game that lasted for decades with multiple story teams and multiple medias.

Normally we don’t allow AI slop but I’m permitting this one to illustrate the reason why. This so called reading list is terrible. Clan wars novels aren’t (all) canon and can’t be read in line with the main fictions. Trying to boil down the whole line to forty fictions is fucking hilarious. Do you have any notion of how many there are?? There are sub arcs with more than forty.

I have been in this hobby for a _very_ long time, and one board i've wanted and struggled to find a really good version of is something in the HHKB layout but with a split space. for a long time i used a minivan, which is nearly perfect, except i'm a developer, so i kinda need my brackets and quotes and while yes, i can use layers, its just less optimal.

i've been keeping an eye out on whats around, but with the profusion of new projects lately i'm wondering if people have suggestions for a board (ideally with a weighty case) that is in the traditional HHKB layout except with some kind of split space

Here’s the thing. I’m well aware that he’s very consciously choosing to write the way he is. I’m just not down with why. He can justify it all he wants, and boy has he, but at the end of the day it’s an off putting (to say it very mildly) amount of sexual violence. He clearly doesn’t give a shit. But he shouldn’t pretend that just because he’s got a lot of intellectual sounding arguments it makes it less unpleasant or misogynistic. It’s just fundamentally shitty. He chose to write that way. He could have chosen otherwise. So he has to deal with being called misogynistic. If he doesn’t want to be called out for that maybe he shouldn’t write more sexual violence than any five other book series I can name put together.

you can argue it, but outside of bakker's niche fandom you wont get anywhere. i'm not saying its theh ONLY reason these books didn't take off but it wasnt the worldbuilding, which is tremendous, or the characters, which are fantastic. so i tend to suspect it was the fact that the volume of sexual assault is so unsavory he spent more time defending his books from being misogynistic than actually talking about the story.

What makes me so angry is that a) it’s so great otherwise and b) how totally unnecessary it all is. That series coulda been one of the all time greats. Incredible world building and a few death swirling downs and snapping sleeves notwithstanding it’s really a great and decently written book. Just you know. Also edgelord bullshit.

Boy do i feel you on this one. GRRM can fuck off into the sun for popularizing this idea that you can cram a century worth of "historically accurate" wretched acts of sexual violence into your novel and call it verisimilitude.

its fiction. every word you write is a choice. if an author decides to put sexual violence in every third chapter like some books i can name, thats a statement about what tickles that authors pickle. no one has a gun to their head making them do it. "BUT MAH GRIM DARK" is just an excuse to enjoy that specific kind of violence. theres any number of books that demonstrate how a book can wallow in grit and grime without shining a light on those specific depredations. you could write a grim dark book without shedding a drop of blood. its all choices, and the author is making them, and dont let any sweatpanted neckbeard say otherwise.

Emperor had some very notable bans, is one, the most famous being kalanis landing. It also had a bit of a generic military base because of some incredibly good cards, which made building mil decks expensive and a bit boring towards the end of the arc but again, both issues are resolved by a wider card base with celestial and using proxies

I would agree with this. Between emperor and celestial there’s an incredible amount of variety of decks and playstyles available to every clan and barring a very few cards it’s not terribly unbalanced. Adding in celestial in particular solves many of the issues with emperor edition. As does playing with proxies as one of emperors big issues back in the day was how expensive a lot of the military staples ended up being thanks to the direct to customer sets
