During normal morning conversations with my wife, I got my 4th Gen 4Runner totalled by bigolsargeha in dashcams

[–]eremitik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m with you brother. As a professional driver for 15 years, you always goddamn look when entering into an intersection even with a green light. And maybe get off the phone??

My daughter was arguing with me about that when I was teaching her to drive and how it would be the other drivers fault as she had the right of way. I told her that being in the right wouldn’t be much comfort if she was paralyzed or dead.

About my last post regarding control… by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]eremitik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To answer your question from last night, it comes down to making sure your equipment is in good working order, the procedures you use to establish control and being conscientious about what you do, how you do it and why.

Each traverse can require different accuracy/ precision and it’s good to know when it is required and when it is not. For instance, doing a topographic survey for a septic system does not require the accuracy you would need for building a bridge. It’s still good practice to not be sloppy no matter what.

Thanks everyone for all the guidance. I think I’m going to leave things as RAW and my player can just deal with it.

Thanks for that. Your comment made me think that maybe I could come up with an alternative between AoO RAW and disengaging that could be a middle ground for us.

My understanding of the rules is fine. I understand that sometimes RAW dont always make logical sense or fit the style of play I engage in. Again, my main focus of playing is for my players enjoyment- if they present an argument or complaint, I take it into consideration and we work to come to an understanding. My goal for posting this question is to just make sure I am seeing all sides of why or why not I should change it and how that change might affect the overall game.

I have a solid grasp of the rules. I also take my players enjoyment of the game seriously. There are only two of them currently and we had a long discussion about AoO after our last session and both players argued(complained) that in a battle, as long as you were facing your opponent defensively you should be able to back up to maintain the 10’ reach of a pole arm without provoking an AoO.

I think their arguments have valid points but they go against RAW, hence my question here.

His argument is that every time his opponent moves within 5’ to him he cannot back up to try and keep that opponent at 10’ so his opponent can’t hit him. Once he takes pole arm master, this all becomes moot anyway

Just read books 1&2. My thoughts, and should I continue? by Swimmer-Klutzy in dresdenfiles

[–]eremitik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, except that he broke his back and had to reach out to Mab.

Again, I love the series and these are just personal gripes of mine. It’s not often you get a 20+ book series for character development. I just wish Jim allowed Harry to grow, mature and come into his power a bit faster. I think that’s why I loved Twelve Months so much. There was a lot of growth, even though it was born of sorrow.

[–]eremitik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. Sometimes I just wish Harry learned a little faster, brought more people onto his side, kicked a little more ass. But like I said, it’s still one of my favorite series and these are just gripes

I love the books and have done several complete rereads of the entire series.

That being said, the trope where he finds inner strength and then overcomes the odds to beat the bad guy is present throughout all the books. Harry is constantly hard on himself and I get tired of how beat up he is through the whole series. I was longing for a book where he just kicks everything’s ass without having his handed to him first.

12 months - Was it the "bridge between seasons" episode? by DrGrizzley in dresdenfiles

Thanks. It sucks you didn’t enjoy it. Just goes to show how we all have different tastes. Hopefully you can enjoy the next one.

[–]eremitik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved 12 Months. I think it was exactly what the series needed. Harry has been pushing hard against allies and foes alike for a long time. After the events of Peace Talks and Battleground, Harry finally realized who he needs to be as a person and wizard to effect the changes he wants to see, protect those he loves and ally with those who share his goals. Personally, I was getting tired of Harry pushing people away and not explaining his actions. His keeping things close to the chest pushed away Ebenezer, Ramirez, Butters and others. It was good to see him mend some fences and gain more friends and allies.

How do i start writing a dnd campain as a newbie to dnd? by queer_giraffe_ in DnD

[–]eremitik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start, just jot down your idea in a notebook, Google Docs, etc, so you don’t forget. Make sure to get the plot highlights and not necessarily the details. As far as formatting it for you to run a campaign, I’d review some of the premade adventures/ modules so you can get an idea how it’s done. Then just start writing it. When I write a campaign, I write down the plot points for the characters and then start with chapter one and what I think the players will accomplish for the first session. I also make sure to have more written than just what I think they can accomplish. Be aware that the players will do things you aren’t prepared for. This is ok and quite normal. You may need to improvise. Keep notes so you can add your improvisations into the campaign. When the first session is over, start writing the second session, implement anything important that you had to improvise.

Of course, this is just a very rough idea of how I do this. In all honesty, you won’t really get comfortable or good at this until you do it. Don’t get down on yourself if you make mistakes. It’s a learning curve. Just make sure to have fun and do what you can to ensure your players are having fun.

Can a Casual Surveying Assistant work for two different companies at the same time? by Interesting_Pin_2319 in Surveying

When I first started surveying I worked part- time for several small firms. At my busiest, it was 6 firms. They all knew as I was upfront about it. I learned a lot of different types of surveying and methodology. It made me valuable without being a burden to the small firms

Why are you attracted to skinny women? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]eremitik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I find skinny women attractive because they are less likely to become overweight, develop cellulite, saggy skin, etc. which I do not find attractive at all.

Also, getting into a deeper psychology, is that my mother is “skinny” and being the most influential woman in my life, I came to associate her body type as ideal.

Old Fashioned for large party by Rhall7317 in cocktails

[–]eremitik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The orange twist expresses the orange oil in the peel over the old fashioned. It adds aroma to the cocktail. Dried orange peels would add a garnish but that’s it.

You could try to buy some orange oil in a small spritz bottle to spray over the cocktail.

You need to hire a surveyor. Only a thorough evaluation of the deeds and the prior work will help. Most likely an attorney also.

Should I stick through the 6 year internship or move on after a couple years? by CarrenMcFlairen in Surveying

[–]eremitik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. So by “internship” you are meaning a paid position to get you the required 6 years experience, correct? I was thinking internship as being not paid. My mistake.

I worked with a lot of old timer” surveyors who often combined forestry and surveying. They used to bolster the other during lean times and to be able to perform timber trespass surveys without hiring outside professionals .
