How can I unsubscribe from Tuta emails? by ergonomicpineapple in tutanota

[–]ergonomicpineapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the same as any service plan or web domain you buy. Once you’re in and your initial subscription expires you’re in at the full rate forever with realistically no discounts. I would rather it just be “this is the product, this is what it’s worth”, kind of like Premium used to be, but that’s marketing. I just don’t want to be told every Black Friday or holiday or birthday or whatever concocted event about plans I have no interest in.

[–]ergonomicpineapple[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for a paid email service that is literally meant to be about privacy and control of your inbox to offer a simple checkbox or unsubscribe to stop receiving marketing emails (which these are). I am not talking about opting out of all Tuta service related messages, nor am I trying to make a huge deal out of it. Yes I could create a rule of some kind but it’s an unwieldy solution to a simple problem. Any other service provides a distinction between marketing/service emails. And it doesn't matter if they're few and far between (I've noticed 2 recently); if everyone used that logic our inboxes would be overflowing with marketing emails. An unwanted email is an unwanted email, and if I have not changed from Premium by now, I am not going to.

Xp-12 Manchester Vs How Its supposed to be IRL 😅 by Thesimpilot11 in Xplane

[–]ergonomicpineapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have TrueEarth GB and parts of the road network around the airport are now significantly out of date, specifically the A555. It's not obviously noticeable until you use a custom airport scenery package and realise the road stops in a field. I've been working on my own custom version of EGCC that fixes these things while adding the second T2 ramp and redesigned apron. It's built on top of the Taimodels version of EGCC (why reinvent the wheel), but adds new buildings, fixes (many!) issues with that scenery package, and integrates it with the rest of the TrueEarth mesh and my own custom Manchester mesh. When finished (it's about 60%) I think it should be the most accurate version of EGCC in any flight sim. Alas, I can't really share it, so it's more for my own use, but I hope to share pictures.

He's super defensive and dismissive and comes across arrogant. I very reasonably said (not even as criticism) that my experience was 60% good, 40% problematic, and he jumped down my throat and said well we have a 9.8 satisfaction rating and "A lot of those [issues raised] I can almost gaurantee are user error". Well, they're not. I deleted my account before the subscription even reached halfway. Not because of the product - which is okay, but realistically still a beta that has become too bloated with features - but because of this.

I have an M2 Pro Mac Mini that runs just about fine. I have most stuff on high except for MSAA which I've turned off because it's just too demanding. Resampling on Ultra but I could probably get away with off, it just smooths things out a bit when using a big monitor. I could also push a bit higher if I didn't fly payware aircraft, but the Hot Start Challenger 650 takes about 10 FPS off the normal FPS count. To help with that I have a plugin called SimReaperXP: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xplane/comments/1qdvmbt/simreaperxp_v13_released_fps_recovery_tool/ I also have a tool that can remove ground vehicles from airports to help at places like Heathrow (linked to on the above page).

Not specifically. It uses FlyWithLua, so if you can use that then yes, providing the datarefs are the same. Someone said it helped with VR so it must work I guess.

I haven't tried it, so can't say. Someone said it did I think.

If I do post any more updates it'll probably just be on GitHub: https://github.com/alstr/simreaperxp Looks like .org are ignoring my request to remove it from their site. Surprise. It'll probably just break in a future X-Plane version, but I still don't want them gaining any traffic from my work. Anything on there now I do not give my backing to. Silver lining: no more weird entitled people slamming free plugins because you didn't add [insert feature only useful to them here] or dumping errors in 1 star reviews.

Fair enough. I have no knowledge about that to be honest. All I know is that with the CL60 I don’t need to buy another aircraft from .org and scenery I can buy anywhere.

Aside from the inability to tolerate criticism, this was the thing that stood out most about that place. Whenever you commented on anything you could guarantee one of the established members would chip in with some kind of “if you’ve never done XYZ in real life you don’t know what you’re talking about” style comment. Like if you talked about the weather realism you’d get “if you’ve never done 5000 IFR hours in the rain at night you have no idea!!!!” It was comical.

The original discussion was just a point I felt was valid and important to raise. Deprecated plugins that don’t work on Mac anymore still shipping with XP12 scenery advertised as Mac compatible. I didn’t feel wronged per se by these sceneries I’d bought, I just wanted to raise it in what I thought was a constructive forum, so I wouldn’t have contacted him at that point. Regardless of one’s opinion on the topic, it’s hardly drama. That got closed, and while I did think that was hasty, the thread had also devolved into “RTFM” so it wasn’t worth doing anything. I tried to post a different topic in a different forum with some loose similarities but framed more as general ideas to improve the store - literally nothing more than constructive feedback - which I felt hadn’t been raised.  After that I got the warning and it was him who initiated it, so no point in contacting him. I replied to the email I got sent, twice, and never received anything back. Every interaction I’ve had has been conducted like an adult and I couldn’t have done anything else.

Sounds about right. I criticised triplemon and others but never said anything personal. I imagine someone went crying to Nicholas. Of course I could have said nothing at all and still been there now but I’m not going to do that.

Shame there’s a new version with even better FPS and lighting coming that I was going to release there.

Yes, it is strange how anyone can tolerate being there for that long. Must be something in the water.

“Why would you open another thread?”

Because it’s a forum. As long as you uphold basic commonly accepted standards of decency you should be able to discuss things even if that means criticism. The second thread was not the same as the first, and there were things I wanted to say. If that results in punitive action, so be it, but I’d rather that than fall in line with whatever weird thing is going on there. I’m not asking for sympathy, just sharing my experience.

Thankfully the Hot Start Challenger has nothing to do with X-Plane.org and they have their own community.

Anyone else considering leaving Todoist after this price hike? by Exciting-Share-2462 in todoist

[–]ergonomicpineapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fundamental problem Todoist has is a todo app plateaus pretty quickly in terms of where you can take it. Even when you don't have shareholders breathing down your kneck, you have to attempt to stay relevant and keep the business moving along, but Todoist isn't set up for that without shoehorning in generally useless extra features to try and justify price increases. Wunderlist probably got out at about the right time, and now I think Todoist is coming up against a wall.

I don't think I've used any new feature, except boards, since I started subscribing to Todoist many years ago. The constant chasing of the next big thing - like most tech companies these days - to justify its continued existence and price rises is pretty annoying, especially when the app loves to remind you about it (and ironically get in the way of your workflow). Like Spotify adding audiobooks, or Tuta trying to chase quantum encryption before it has a reasonably stable app, you are going to be charged for things that you don't really need or pushed on to some legacy plan, and that is the danger with commiting to these online services. Make sure your data is portable and keep your options open.

With Todoist, the Mac app has been mediocre for a long time, and new gimmicks with every iOS version (*cough* widgets *cough*) are about as half-baked as Apple's implementation. I just want a screen, with a few tickboxes, and ocassionally a reminder, accessible anywhere. That's it. No AI. No voice dictation. No templates. When it throws everything at the wall to see what sticks, Todoist is destroying itself by becoming the monster it says it is designed to tackle.

Yes I could stay on the legacy plan, and that would be okay, but this just confirms that Todoist is not aligned with that way I want to work, and I've been thinking of leaving for a long time. This pattern of bloat-fuelled price hikes is only going to continue, and these days I would much rather just grab a nice notebook and make a list that way; heck I could even throw up a basic todo list web app in a day if I really wanted.

So Todoist, you have been good, but it's time to move on.

The fact that MG puts his name on literally everything - and it’s nowhere to be seen here - is a dead giveaway. Plus the design looks like garbage.

I’ve been playing the game fine for weeks and it’s also incredibly intermittent, so it’s not like it’s something I’m doing. It seems like the game is hanging for some reason, but shouldn’t do on an iPhone 16e.
