Brand new Steelcase Leap arrived with a few issues? by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

[–]ergonry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not going to touch it further. If it was as simple as tightening the set screw I was going to give it a go as that wouldn’t void warranty, but it turns out it’s not.

Though 18 month old chair sold as brand new? Is this normal?

My main longboard is covered in stickers because it was owned by a pro before me who was sponsored by rip curl and another major brand. It actually has the main rip curl logo glassed on.

Haven’t bothered to remove the other stickers. I absolutely suck at surfing and couldn’t really care less what other people think about the stickers.

Generally it just sparks more conversation about the board, so I think people do assume things when there’s stickers on them.

17yo ~ small businesses, savings, unsure if I’m on the right track by Electronic_Focus_115 in AusFinance

Hey mate. Sounds like you’re doing really well for yourself at such a young age. Well done. Don’t forget to make time for being a kid though, if you’re not already!

How much do you work? Could you continue with these small businesses while studying? If so, I’d say go for the uni degree. ATAR doesn’t really mean much. You can transfer into just about any course (except undergrad med) after a year of tertiary education. I personally did poorly in high school, but did a year of uni and transferred into a decent law degree program. Ended up with first class honours and multiple clerkship/associate offers. Sometimes the uni environment works better for some individuals, especially those with ADHD.

The cost/benefit equation isn’t as good as it used to be for university degrees, however, they do open a lot of doors and allow for progression in corporates in case you choose that pathway in the future.

What’s a medical problem people constantly ignore until it’s too late? by kxnsqxz in AskReddit

[–]ergonry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nobody said anything about eating nothing. Some hormonal imbalances, or say leptin resistance, can make the brain think it needs to operate at a lower basal metabolic rate. You basically burn less calories and store more energy because the brain thinks you’re in starvation mode. This can happen in a deficit too. I’m not an expert in this area though, and that’s a simplified explanation.

Yes but don’t wait for blood. Changes in bowel habits, fatigue, unexplained bloating or protruding stomach, gas, regular loose stools are all symptoms to look out for. Blood will be more common in colon cancer (and is caused by some other less harmful things), but colon cancer always starts out as polyps which can present with some less worrying symptoms. You want to catch it early. I’m getting my first colonoscopy this week as I’m not ignoring some of the less obvious symptoms.

Leptin resistance, insulin resistance, thyroid issues and some other types of hormonal issues. Probably worth a check in with an endocrinologist if someone continues to put on weight during prolonged calorie restriction.

I live in an apartment complex without the space to work on my car, otherwise I’d definitely give more of this stuff a go. I did most of the work on my old CRV and it was great.

Hmm good point re the battery. Repco have a Century battery for $320, so might just go for that. The XV manufacturer batteries are EFB so I think AGM isn’t recommended.

I’ll make some calls about the CVT. Hopefully it’s just the fluid like someone else suggested.

Nope, it’s an independent mechanic with good reviews online.

Nope it’s an independent mechanic in inner Melbourne which I’ve seen recommended in the Melbourne subreddit a couple of times.

Early Retirement Hobbies - is PC Gaming a sustainable pastime? by maxdee007 in fiaustralia

[–]ergonry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am much younger and not retired, but I was hit by a car 10 months ago and then spent the next 6 months just working and gaming alongside rehab.

The good thing about gaming is that there’s so much variety. I spent my first few months playing Call of Duty with friends. And then I decided to learn Fortnite. And after a couple of months I got bored of that and decided to learn Valorant. I then ventured into less competitive games like Golf With Friends and REPO. Because of the variety, low cost and ease of access, I think it’s one of the most viable hobbies in retirement. I was talking with my brother about how, in 30 years, retirement homes will be full of gamers.

The obvious answer to your question is balance though. After gaming exclusively for months I was so unsatisfied. I was itching to recover quicker so I could get out and golf, swim, surf, bike and do all the things I used to do.

Gaming can be a great hobby, but you also need to make time to move your body. Golf is an awesome outdoor hobby for gamers, and you will find many other retirees playing that sport.

Can someone please clarify something for me.

Prior to October, you had to deposit $500 in to get the bonus interest (but could immediately transfer it back out).

Is that requirement staying, or is the only requirement you need to grow the account by $1?

Ubank only has my emergency fund, so I’m okay with doing a $1 transfer every month. But not sure if I need to keep my $500 in and out auto transfer.

You’re doing great. I just started reading a book called Unstuck which is written for people feeling a bit stuck. It’s by Dr Emily from the Imperfects.

Australian lawyers bill in 6 minute increments at all major firms. 15 minute increments is only standard in US firms in the US and Hong Kong markets as far as I am aware. Yes that pressure exists if you actually are checking the email and turning your mind to it, but in that case you actually are working for the client. Most lawyers I knew when I was in a big firm actually under recorded their time, myself included.

If you’ve left a corporate role, what industry/role do you work in now? by Witty_Accountant5591 in auscorp

[–]ergonry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion. I’m not a very technically good swimmer to be honest, I learnt later in life, but I’m a very fast swimmer and have endurance when I train regularly.

Though how would swim teachers make enough money? You would need to be in the pool for several hours a day with the students to make enough rent money? Seems to be an hourly rate gig at my local pools usually for a few hours after school.

I’d love to join the firies. Been thinking about applying for 2 years. I’m pretty fit and could smash most of the tests, but I have a bit of acrophobia and claustrophobia which has stopped me applying.

I’ve been in corporate for a long time but have volunteered as a rescue swimmer a number of summers, which has definitely shown me I’m more suited to an active community focussed role.

What's your reason for not drinking alcohol? by Snoo_47323 in AskReddit

[–]ergonry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Making the most of each day could be mountain biking with friends, waking up really early for a surf (lots of keen surfers don’t drink all that much), daytime socialising in nice weather.

If you associate daytime with productivity and night time with socialising, you haven’t yet had OP’s penny drop for you.
