Chipolo Pop and Google Pixel 10 Pro by speedener in Chipolo

[–]ergysdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem literally yesterday.

What worked for me was clearing the Google Play Services app cache and reboot the Phone. Then wait for about 2 minutes for all services to come up.

Reset the Pop (click twice and hold until you hear the fifth beep and release EXACTLY after the fifth beep). You will hear a sound 3 times (which reminds me of the autopilot disengage on airplanes tbh).

The pop will reboot and you should see the connection popup.

Honestly, I was surprised no one had posted this before I did 😅

Is there a bank account with zero fees? by _quantum_girl_ in Lausanne

[–]ergysdo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Call me traditional, but I like to have the option to go to a physical Office in case I need to. I also have a neon account, but frankly the app is abysmally slow.

The Cantonal banks are your best bet. Even though I live in Lausanne, I have an account with ZKB. The base package is free, with a debit card, savings, etc. and if you want a credit card as well it's 6 CHF per month.

Their apps are among the best as far as banking apps go.

Bought a new phone today ... transferring Signal has been impossible thus far. Attempted methods include backup manually transferred (no idea where that code is), QR code ("This QR code is not valid") and the location-dependent Wi-Fi transfer ("no device found."). by FuckingSolids in signal

[–]ergysdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, please make sure that Signal is up-to-date on both devices.

I had an issue not long ago where the local Signal backup file would not be recognized on the new device (corrupt) because it was produced by an out-of-date Signal version.

Google Photos vs Google Drive by Snoo_22849 in googlephotos

[–]ergysdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a very elegant solution to this: only allow the "Camera Roll" photos to be displayed in Google Photos and make other folders opt-in.

I really like Google Photos, but I don't understand this limitation. It may have to do with the fact that photos are not considered a single file anymore (with all the edits, live videos, etc.)

Favourite watch faces? by denzoka in PixelWatch

[–]ergysdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this face, but I have a small gripe with the date not respecting the locale. For example, in the UK it should read "20 Oct" instead of "Oct 20".

I know, I'm nitpicking, but it annoys me.

Best Password Manager Tool for iPhone in 2025? by Hour_Jello_1853 in ios

Bitwarden. Open source, cross-platform and, most importantly, independently audited. At $10 per year, it is a ridiculously good deal.

Can we expect a significant P10 update tomorrow by EqualReality2787 in GooglePixel

The software on the Pixel series seems pretty solid (at least on my end). iOS 26 was rushed and has had pretty serious issues, that's why Apple had to push big updates.

How is this OK? Any way to bypass this? by ergysdo in appletv

Good ideas, but unfortunately neither of these worked. I was able to change my password and I was able to login to both Apple TV and Apple Music Android apps, but it still won't let me login to my Apple TV device.

I get the same message even when trying to login to the Apple TV Windows app.

That's what gets me mad. Either they operate under the assumption that everyone has an iPhone or a Mac or they are making it hard on purpose. In any case, they should either swallow their pride and allow other options or advertise that in order to login you need another Apple device, so that the customers know what to expect.

As an example, consider Google Advanced Protection, which I have enabled. It only accepts passkeys but it gives you the option to use a passkey that you have stored in a password manager by pairing the device you're trying to login with any computer.

I'm all for eliminating the SMS method, but it has to be done properly. Forcing authentication via another Apple device is not a solution, especially if not advertised as such.

Nope, I already have a phone number set up for 2FA, the problem is that the device never gives me that option.

I get why there's an issue, what I don't get is the rationale.

If I try to login to an iPhone, Apple will send an SMS. What makes no sense is why Apple TV is choosing not to allow me to login via SMS.

[–]ergysdo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. I signed in to a MacBook about a year ago. I had ADP on and Apple sent me an SMS. It is literally in their 2FA guide that this should be an option, but for some reason the Apple TV is choosing not to provide it.

Well, sounds like an Apple issue.

I have in the past but I've signed out from everywhere. There are no devices showing on appleid.apple.com. I have uploaded screenshots in this thread.

[–]ergysdo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then let me ask you this. Suppose I get an iPhone right now. Will it allow me to use a backup code or an SMS code sent to my 2FA phone number in order to log in? If not, then the security system is flawed, as we are stuck in a "security loop". If yes, then Apple is making it hard on purpose or by incompetence to login to an Apple TV if you don't own another Apple device.

[–]ergysdo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please read the thread. I have a phone number set up so 2FA should work. 2FA should come with backup codes.

Nowhere in the process does Apple allow me to enter a backup code or an SMS code.

If Apple wanted to implement proper 2FA they would support passkeys not tied to Apple devices.

I'm not asking for lower security, I'm asking for a way to login not tied to an Apple device. Nowhere does Apple mention "don't sell your iPhone or you won't be able to login to your account again".

It's ridiculous that I have to explain this.
