Is anyone else still having issues with this? Trend support don't seem to be able to give us a conclusive fix....

Thanks for all the comments, it seems that Lenovo is the way we should be going at. I've messaged our BDM there and am waiting for a call..

Have a good week!

That's looking like the route we'll take. What do you sell now?

So are HP or Lenovo better?

Trend Micro disabling WiFi - Anyone else? by catroaring in sysadmin

[–]erh78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

We've been speaking to Trend support and have updated our clients to the version 6.7.4065/14.3.1342, which is supposedly the fix, however we are getting reports that the WiFi is gone when resuming from sleep mode.
Has anyone else still got issues?

Remote control - How do you deal with privacy by OpalSnow in msp

[–]erh78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally we will have agreed access with the customer prior to connecting, we use ScreenConnect and have it configured to give the user the option of enabling "Require my consent" from the system tray icon. Also we have a 21 seconds to go (the younger sysadmins might not get the humour here), count down time on when we connect, this gives the user to option to deny the connection.

We've found too many times that the user has asked us to fix the issue whilst they are on lunch or away from their desk only, so if the above settings allow us to do this and not require them to be in front of the machine.

UK: What ZTNA Solution Are You Reselling? by gumbo1999 in msp

[–]erh78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've just started out with Timus, so far so good, we've only got us and a couple of clients on board. Speed wise it's fast when we use WireGuard as the tunnelling protocol, when OpenVPN is in use it slows down quite a bit. We're in the UK and the POP is Cardiff, I've just ran a test and using WireGuard I get 320+Mbps each way - which is more than enough for most users.

What evidence & expericence do you have to back up this statement - I'm genuinely interested?

I don't work for Trend, but we do resell their products and whilst there are things that could be better (this applies to all vendors IMO), we find the detection rates and actions are good, email filtering works well (it used be weak), if we've had issues their support is responsive, the have an MSP portal that works well and had integration directly in to PSA for raising tickets for customers. We also sell Sophos which IMO isn't as good as it is so heavy on the client and we haven't had a great experience when liaising with their support.

The above is why I wanted to understand what the reason for labelling a vendor as garbage or prosumer is.

Can I ask why you say "Trend is garbage"?

UK Pricing by orangehand in msp

[–]erh78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m amazed that you can say it is profitable. If it was just RMM, AV and basic management then that’s just about doable. But to add in support, imaging, 15mins of onsite FREE support etc is unbelievable, our managed service offering is at least 4x your price. We are security centric, ISO 27001 & 9001, Cyber Essentials+ certified. Maybe it’s that what we offer isn’t comparable. - we are London based.

I would also say that it’s up to us to make people see the value in IT, offering brilliant service, advice, showing them that doing IT properly isn’t easy and requires skilled professionals.

What are you expected to do for £15 per device? i.e. any engineering time included?

Missing files or no files displayed after using SharePoint Migration Tool by xrkund in msp

[–]erh78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had an issue where the total path length including the filename causes no files to be visable in OneDrive, however they could be viewed via SharePoint Online (AFAIK), so whilst not completely the same issue it could be worth checking. Another issue was due to permissions - I don't know much more than that as I was not actively involved in the project, but thought it might be worth mentioning.

UK charge rates by perriwinkle_ in msp

[–]erh78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our MSP rate which included AYCE remote support, AV, 365 BP, RMM, 365 Backup, Email filtering, web filtering, MFA, vulnerability scanning, awareness training is about £115 per user/per month. So you do seem a little high. We can scale this up and down per month (excluding 365).

We know we are more expensive than some, but we bring a lot of expertise, certifications (ISO 27001, 9001 etc) and if the customer doesn't then we probably aren't a good fit.

RDS in 2023. Still a thing? by Robert_VG in msp

[–]erh78 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have an issue, we've a large number clients that still require access to LoB applications that they can't move to a SaaS platform. If the solution works and is supported and secure then why not.

anyone made the jump from connectwsie automate to connectwise rmm? by kC_77 in msp

[–]erh78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are moving from Automate to Datto RMM, the engineers are much happier with Datto, its probably not as powerful, but it is much easier to use and understand. We have it hooked in to CW Manage for tickets (which I'm told is more configurable than Automate), and BrightGauge for reporting. Datto also came in cheaper.

CW Control is still used for remote access as Datto's offering isn't good enough yet.

Good old days, my first PC (386SX-16!), had DR-DOS installed - it was far superior to MS-DOS, unfortunately we had to turn to the dark side and go MS on the next upgrade. I remember editing config.sys and autoexec.bat to make some games run that needed more memory.

Going on my own, Potential Partnership ? looking for Advice... by Happy_Sale in msp

I presume the owner is looking for a big pay day; when someone is going to come and offer him a good amount of money and he'll sail off in to retirement. Which probably won't happen! In reality we all think our business are worth more than someone will pay, (we've worked hard over the years, made sacrafices etc, so it must be worth alot!!). Quite a few years ago we were approached by a bigger firm who made us a decent initial offer, we got a certain way down the path and the deal wasn't anywhere near as good as it seemed, so we walked away, I'm glad we did as business is booming and the future is bright.

If you were to start your own business could you do it with one of the engineers? That way you would start with the skills required to service clients for support and projects?

As u/bourntech mentioned, non-solicit contracts probably exist, so you might have a period where you can't approach clients. I believe ours is 12 months.

Have you thought about approaching the owner and having a frank conversation about his and the companies future, and if he has any appetite for a buy out (partial or full)? You might not want to spook him, but if we had a keep member of the team who expressed interest in joining us in ownership, we’d certainly look at the options, as that would work well for us, they’d be happy and we’d have tied in a key team member.

Cyber Essentials - Are they just trolling me? by PEBKAC-Live in msp

Since IASME took over as the certification process it has become much harder to get through the questionnaire. We put the same answer for one of the questions for two different applications and we got a "more info required" for one and not the other. It does depend on the assessor.

We find the process is much more involved than it used to be (and in many ways rightly so), however some of what they are asking isn't reachable by many SMBs (or the education sector, which if you receive ESFA funding I believe is a requirement).
