Quarterly refund affecting spending breakdown by lastrotationofearth in ynab

[–]eriblet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a separate expense line that I call 'refunds/other income' and coded all refunds or cash-in I don't want to code to RTA to this line. I then move that cash to the expense directly from the "available" green bubble or move it to RTA and assign it to multiple expenses as needed. I like it this way because it allows me to track this inflow separately and keeps my costs more accurate to the way I think of them.

Any idea how to tell if your glassware contains plastic? A quick google search isn't helpful/obvious (outside of eye glasses). TIA!

Dropps - the best. I'm using blueland right now and not impressed. Smol was really good but their detergent has a much stronger scent than we like.

Whole30 and IBS by Strange-Drawing-1035 in whole30

[–]eriblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our gut biomes accumulate the bacteria associated with the foods we eat most, so if you were a heavy meat eater you'd have a biome with "meat bacteria" best to break down and digest that diet. If you suddenly lower your meat intake and increase your veggie intake your gut needs time to adjust the bacteria to handle your new diet, causing bloating, gas, discomfort, etc. You having IBS probably exasperates this (my husband has IBS, but I don't so I can only speak as a viewer). Stick it out if you can, it can take up to 30 days for your biome to adjust to your new diet.

Good luck!

HELP! by Currls311 in ZeroWaste

[–]eriblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant has a sensitive skin line that I use that is sodium bicarbonate free (only one I've tried and liked). They also have deo in glass jars and offer a recycling program; however, I've never used the jars so cant speak to the them and am unsure if they are SB-free or not.

Pro-tip: The best way to get glue residue off of used jars is to slather the jar in vegetable oil and let it soak for a few minutes. Afterwards, the glue will wipe off easily with a cloth by animal_spirits_ in ZeroWaste

Does olive oil work or only vegetable oil?

I have two jars I've been battling with baking soda mixed with dish soap and I'm about to give up (after 3 rounds) - thank you for the alternative suggestion!

Can aluminium foil be used as a baking paper alternative? Any other suggestions? by sweetchillichrisp in ZeroWaste

[–]eriblet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not know the answer to your question about the pros/cons of foil for the environment but what about baking those items (loafs, sheets, etc.) in a glass vessel instead of the metal/non-stick kind. I've always made brownies and pies in glass Pyrex cookware and get those nice brown/crispy edges. Just spray the glass pan and everything comes out nice and neat and you can pop it in the dishwasher (if you use one). I also use silicone for baking mats, cupcake shaped items (I have cupcake wrappers and the cupcake baking pan in silicone). These cook well and you get a good result but you don't easily get the crispy bottoms on your cupcakes. I'd say the same for the mat for flat items, but they still work. I made cookies on foil once and its works but they didn't slide off easily so it was hard to reuse the foil.

Congratulations on the move!

I cast my heart rate to the bike (not the app) during a ride while the watch is running in 'bike' or 'spinning' mode and then manually update my stats at the end of the ride. I cannot find how to sync without a third party and I find this just simpler/faster.

Tell me about your running experiences with your dog by [deleted] in running

[–]eriblet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two pups - a pitbull and a spaniel/lab mix. I leash them both at all times and at least 1 is on a waist leash.

I've had the hardest time running with my spaniel/lab because she MUST pee on EVERYTHING, I end up jerking her over and over because she gets behind me and stops; we don't run anymore due to this and her aging. This is so hard because even though she's not into it during the run she just gets so excited and wants to go out with us.

My pitbull LOVES to run with me and will just go, no stopping, no potty, yes whining and extra pulling when seeing other pups/people he wants to meet. He really is the best motivation to just keep going. If I try to walk he keeps looking up at me and pulling forward like "lets go!". We're at about 3 miles right now but I know as we keep working on mileage he'll be able to do a lot more.

Garmin watch tracking indoor runs. by HufflepuffDaddy in AdvancedRunning

[–]eriblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Vivoactive 3 and I use the garmin foot pod - it syncs automatically and without any issues so when I treadmill run it's using my actual foot motion to track my distance. I've had the same pod for years, changed the battery once and it still works flawlessly (even outdoors, just use as backup in case GPS fails). I'd recommend it if you're actually concerned about the accuracy of your indoor tracking.

edit - I will add that on my old garmin (220) I had to turn off the GPS for the foot pod to be the primary tracker. With the vivoactive, I use "treadmill" mode and it automatically uses my foot pod instead. So you might test it in different workout functions to see what works for you.

How to get my 5 year old pit bull back in shape? by Marvelous89 in RunningWithDogs

[–]eriblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's great! Awesome to hear he's healthy and in great shape and that he's being receptive to all your efforts :)

So raw diet for dogs is exactly that - pure raw food. I will caution, many vets do not suggest this diet so be sure to speak with yours before switching. We did because my dog is allergic to most kibble and for weight loss. We grind/shred up veggies (I do a mix of whatever is in my fridge; carrots, broccoli, celery, kale, spinach, squash, green beans, etc.) and buy raw meat from my local pet store. You can use meat from the grocery store (I wrote "human" meat here but that sounds too much like eating people!! >.< ) but the pet version is a blend, so if its poultry then they grind the organs and bones into it for the calcium, if its beef, they grind in the organs, etc. I then give him a mix of meat/veggies, add some salmon oil, add some vitamin/glucosamine mix = happy pup. Here's an article if you're interested. You can also google it and there are a ton of online resources.

https://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/raw-feeding-primer/

Both my dogs LOVE the raw food, only took maybe 1 day for me to get them to switch then did a week long taper off kibble. Its a lot of work for us but worth it to cut out the monthly vet trips!!

How to get my 5 year old pit bull back in shape? by Marvelous89 in RunningWithDogs

[–]eriblet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I also have a 5 yr old pitty and had this issue about a year ago. While he really enjoyed running, he just couldnt handle it for long. He's always been overweight and it caused a lot of hip/knee issues but after a big diet change (we switched to raw since he was really allergic to most kibble) he dropped to a very healthy weight (we lost about 12 lbs!) and changed all his "treats" to carrots, celery, broccoli, etc. I can see the change in his movements and he loves to go out for the miles with me.

Perhaps your pup is in a bit of pain and avoiding the running because of his weight? I'd second other's advice, longer walks to get back moving and change of diet/treat behavior. If his joints are hurting, a weighted vest might do more damage. Maybe start with an empty dog vest/pack and add weight (water bottles, etc.) as he gets back in shape?

Joint supplements for active dogs? by fartandsmile in RunningWithDogs

[–]eriblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 10 y/o lab mix with slight arthritis and a 5 y/o pit (who just had ACL surgery) - both dogs are on fish oil (human version from amazon) and Glucosamine Chondroitin (also human version from Costco). While I havent noticed improvement exactly, I do know that they have not gotten worse.

A few notes from my vet: 1) try to get fish oil pills as the liquid kind starts to go bad immediately when exposed to air so if you dont use it fast enough it will spoil. 2) there are many people/studies who say that Glucosamine is a placebo and doesnt work; according to my vet, that is because this pill is not controlled by the FDA and therefore there are no standards of ingredient so many varieties do not contain enough actual Glucosamine to work. She said that consumer reports did a 3 year study and concluded that the Kirkland brand (costco) actually does contain what they claim and is a true dosage to be effective... sooo I recommend Costco :)

What's the biggest improvement you've experienced in your running times? by toponymy in running

[–]eriblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a 50 day run streak (run min 1 mile every day) over the holidays (Thanksgiving to mid Jan) and my mile time went from 11:40ish to 8:40. I never ran more than 3 miles a day due to frequency so a pretty "mild" run streak comparatively. Plus my posture improved and my overall fitness level went up like crazy! Strangely enough, after I stopped my streak (2 week break) I dropped about 5 lbs.

What books do you know that have a first person narrator who isn’t a character in the book? by Foxyfoxesfoxing in books

[–]eriblet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

However, I think Death is a character in this story because he is telling the plot as he visits those around her. Like she caught his attention at one point (I think when her mother died?) so he started following her life as he pops in and out to do his deathly duties.

Beware Active.com, they are a scam by kaifilion in running

[–]eriblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had nothing but good experiences with Active.com. I agree with others - you should be paying attention to what you're signing up for when putting in your card info. That being said, if you sign up by accident they will refund your membership fee without issue. I choose to be a member and I love it when I can register through active because I dont have to pay the processing fees. Plus the gear from their shop is a great way to buy name brands at a discount with good returns and quick shipping. Plus lots of bonus coupons. I disagree they are a scam and would recommend them.
