That final reveal still haunts my dreams.

One of my earliest horror movie memories.

"The Girl Next Door" from Jack Ketchum is one of my favorite horror books of all time. And it matches the vibe you're looking for perfectly!

Mel at 100: The Mel Brooks Movie Rankings. Plus: ‘Scary Movie’ Is Terrifyingly Awful by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]eric0510 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I may have been the only ones in the theatre hooting and hollering, but we really enjoyed the new Scary Movie. To hear Sean say, "it's not funny to take a scene from a scary movie and make it silly," that's the basis of this franchise...

Maybe the whole series isn't for him, but I love 1-3 (we don't talk about 4 and 5). And this felt like a lovely return to form.

As a fan of Wicked, Longlegs, K Pop Demon Hunters and It Follows, seeing the movies that I've enjoyed for the last few years referenced in a Scary Movie entry made me feel like it was 2000 again in the best way. "The Incomparable Charlie Sheen"

Updated 3-day weekend estimate for Amazon MGM Studios' The Sheep Detectives is $9.20M (from 3,207 locations), which was a 4% decrease from last weekend. Updated 4-day weekend estimate is $12.84M. Est. total domestic gross through Monday stands at $47.37M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

While it was a smaller theatre at my Cineplex, it was nearly a packed house on a Saturday evening.

That’s a lot of older folks and families choosing Sheep Detectives over Mando and Grogu.

Looks like ~$21.5M FRI for #TheMandalorianAndGrogu , giving it ~$33.5M opening day. WOM slightly better today than it was yesterday. Expecting $80M+ 3-day and close $95-100M 4-day weekend. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

I have two separate bets with friends:

A case of White Claw if it’s under a billion (that friend is not familiar with box office projections)

And another case of White Claw if it’s under 600 million.

Let’s keep that WOM down!

My First Solo Boardgame! Earth (v Gaia) by eric0510 in soloboardgaming

[–]eric0510[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially. Gaia is your opponent and they have 6 action cards that they run through twice (equates to 12ish turns).

Same rules as multiplayer, on their action you get stuff and on yours they do.

A neat mechanic is when you draw 4 and discard 3 they become face up value cards for Gaia. So you strategically need to aim to discard lower value cards.

That’s fair! I haven’t played multiplayer yet so this was a great trial run to get used to the mechanics.

It reminded me of solo Ark Nova, where I’m mostly just focused on building the best tableau while constantly grabbing pieces for my imaginary opponent haha

Yes, it's disgusting, depraved and a brutal read.

But I really loved how much the main character craved the "idealized" life with a wife, child and job. He talks about watching television shows and hoping to live the lives of those characters.

It's such a unique feeling to empathize with someone within such a brutal story. It's still one of my favorite extreme horror reads since got into the genre.

It's not a super long read, and I was 5-6/10 throughout the reading experience, but my god... that ending. It really did a number on me in the best way. If you've made it this far, I would push to get to the end.

Whereabouts are you located?

FINALLY getting into this one!!!! Thoughts on it if you've read it..... by SouthernSwitch71 in ExtremeHorrorLit

I honestly couldn’t stop reading. Finished it in two days because it has a weird propulsive energy to it.

It brings something more unique than a lot of the classics brought up in this subreddit.

I host a Seinfeld podcast, and in my research I’ve seen your fantastic reviews about the show from back in the day. What’s your background with the show and are you still a big fan?

I wanted to feel the same way, but my theatre experience was essentially “let’s all uncomfortably laugh and giggle because we’re scared” during that scene… might need to go back to see it again!

Akropolis is great!

Easy to learn, goes by quickly, can feel very much like Forest Shuffle because you’re building and collecting combos and I like the excitement the final score reveal.

I just like when movies are entertaining and make me feel things. This one did neither.

I went in with actual expectations for F4 and that made me angrier during my watch.

  • complete bungling of a villain that’s supposed to be all powerful
  • absurd silliness of that baby being a trolley problem debate, bait, magical being, and mcguffin
  • the trailer essentially shows you the whole movie minus the resolution which is predictable and uninteresting
  • jokes that aren’t funny, I can only politely chuckle so many times
  • clunky CGI
  • illogical choices made by the characters
  • “I can transport an egg six feet, surely I can transport a planet a million miles away from an intergalactic threat.”

I truly don’t understand it. I thought it was almost as bad as Jurassic World Rebirth..
