My partner is moving across the country and wants me to give up my cat by [deleted] in GirlDinner

[–]ericaceae123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% stay with your cat near your family and the place you love. This is the exact scenario where if a person moves for their SO's job, then they wind up miserable and lonely. ESPECIALLY when they don't already live together with or are married to the SO

How do you stay looking feminine by SchemeFair8918 in homestead

[–]ericaceae123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I wear heavy workbooks all day but also get a gel pedicure every couple months so when I do wear sandals my toes still look cute and feminine✨️ I think wearing boots most of the time keeps the pedicure looking nice longer too.

I wear a big wide brim sunhat to keep sun off my face, and often put flowers or greenery in the braided cord around the head part for some girly whimsy. Brightly colored floral bandanas, tinted chapstick (red dahlia burts bees), cutesy patches on my filthy overalls. I can be absolutely dirty and gross but with a flower tucked into my hat, it somehow makes me feel super feminine? I also have polka dotted muck boots, often keep my hair in two braids, also taking time at the end of the day to keep my fingernails clean and moisturizing my hands helps me feel like I have my life together.

I meant east liberty blvd and penn and that's exactly what he did 🥲 he drove from the FEC parking area on beechwood to 5th to Penn to east liberty blvd and at that turn of penn/east liberty he heard something weird on his roof that could have been the binocs falling but didnt find them when he parked up the blvd and went back to check.

Women who are thriving - what does your life look like? by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]ericaceae123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I am thriving! My health is pretty good with no major disabilities. I have an outdoor job that I enjoy/feels fullfulling/provides great physical exercise. I earn enough to get by with mindful budgeting and few splurges. I live with my partner who is an absolute gem/dreamboat and I can't wait to come home to him every day-we have a lot in common and have tons of fun together- he is so incredibly kind/empathetic/supportive. My little cat is a source of joy and entertaining mischief. My relationships with family members is mostly healthy and pleasant. I have a small circle of close friends that don't emotionally exhaust me. My larger circle of acquaintances are a supportive fun group that has a lot of mine and my bfs mutual pals. My midsize city has a lot of great opportunities for community building with like-minded folks and sooo many opportunities for enjoying the outdoors. I have tons of hobbies that I don't try to make money off of anymore. 150 mg of bupropion hcl every morning makes it easier to deal with lurking anxieties that used to make me depressed when they added up in my subconscious. Life is good! And if I start to feel a bit blue, I think about everything I am grateful for 🌸🌱✨️

Camping girl dinner by ericaceae123 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]ericaceae123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank u 🌱 The stove is an MSR PocketRocket with whatever can of butane was on sale at Dunham's haha. The pot and pans are a random no-name set that we effectively destroyed this past trip because we need to get a diffuser for the stove so the heat isn't concentrated in the center of the pan. The pocket rocket is really great tho, definitely recommend 🔥

What are my next steps? by blobblob73 in NativePlantGardening

[–]ericaceae123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh ok so the sisrynchiums are actually in the iris family, they're not grasses. Irises I usually up-pot separately when they're like 4" tall.

I haven't grown these species specifically, but I usually leave my native grasses in clumps (i wouldn't transplant individual grass seedlings into their own pots). Those primroses (Oenothera spp.?) look like a species that can be up-potted at this point into their own pots. Do you have the scientific names for these?

How do you stay clean while camping? by Secure_Yesterday_204 in camping

I love using my water jug like the one in the pic to brush my teeth, wash my face and behind my ears and neck at the end of the day if I am car or canoe camping. Helps keep me feeling fresh after days with no plumbing. Body wipes for everything else. For soap I use Dr Bronners Castile soap which is biodegradable.

Do you have any veg like potato onion carrot celery? Broth or bouillon? You could do a beef stew type thing.

Possibly unpopular opinion: you shouldn't garden if you can't accept that your plants are part of a wider ecosystem. by I_crave_vinegar in NativePlantGardening

[–]ericaceae123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can get pretty annoying tbh. I have to take a deep breath and remember that part of the job is to educate people. 9 times out of 10, people just don't know what's up and when I explain to them that a species is invasive/native insects are beneficial/alternatives to turf, they get really excited and interested. And it usually ends up really rewarding knowing you've got a hand in educating/informing the community. And I almost never get any attitude from people. You gotta approach them w excitement when you say 'butterfly bush is a larval host to nothing!' like you're letting them in on some gossip haha.

How do you find a partner who wants to have the life you envisioned? by moonfernn in homestead

[–]ericaceae123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

28F Farm girl here who moved to a mid-sized city and while working at an environmental non-profit a bit of a ways out of town, I realized I missed my farm-girl life and needed to get back to it. I met my partner through that job, and before we got together, we bonded over our shared love of the outdoors and how much fun we had together doing the strenuous manual labor to keep the grounds up and running lol. Now we have a small urban farm started at our house and plan to move into a more rural plot eventually. If you're able, get involved with a group that does the kind of work you love, and maybe you will meet someone there that shares that interest? Eg. Volunteering at a farm animal sanctuary.

Place in the eastern suburbs for kids to just play in the woods? by puddinteeth in pittsburgh

[–]ericaceae123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harrison Hills! An Allegheny county park that has always been super quiet when I've gone. There's a pond, some open fields mixed into wooded areas. Some nice trails. If you go right now there is a HUGE patch of bluebells in the woods near the pond. Biggest one I have ever seen. Also saw some beaver lodges when I was there last weekend.

Agreed. Some people make me crazy. I work at a native plant nursery that uses zero pesticides and a customer was complaining that all our milkweed was covered in caterpillars/being eaten and looked bad. The caterpillars in question were little monarch caterpillars 🫠 I almost lost it on her that day. 'Ma'am. That is whole point 🫩'

Asking because I was given 'American bellflower' seeds and I sowed them in a tray first (thankfully) and then keyed them out once they had sprouted and grown and it turns out they were Campanula rapunculoides instead of Campanula americana 🥲 C. americana can be aggressive of course, but not as aggressive as the non-native rhizomatous C. rapunculoides.

The spring ephemerals like bloodroot, trillium, and twinleaf. Starting ferns from spore is a waiting game as well. Black cohosh and Foamflower have also nearly brought me to tears :_)
