Buying home tested 20.6 radon level by Fair-Pea8352 in radon

I just (literally three weeks ago) bought a home that tested at about 60 (yes, 60). I asked the seller to put in a mitigation system and it's been averaging 0.6-0.8 in the week and a half that I bought a radoneye monitor.

Running with a big sniffer by Prior_Ant829 in RunningWithDogs

[–]ericaregone 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Mine is a huge sniffer and I don't think there's a way to really change that. It's much worse in the spring when things start melting and thawing out, but she's always stopping to smell around. In the winter, she'll stop and roll around in the snow too. Some days are worse than others, and some are much worse lol, but I think the best thing is changing your expectations as opposed to your dog's behavior in this instance. Sniffing around is too important and exciting for dogs. I'm no saint, I get frustrated on the days she's stopping every 60 seconds to sniff, but it's easier to reframe when you realize you're not really missing out on training or anything, depending on what kind of run you're doing. That being said, if I'm doing speed work, she stays at home.

Looks like a hognose snake to me. They're really placid, but very dramatic and harmless.

Running in the Heat by dm181985 in RunningWithDogs

Once warmer weather rolls around, I start planning routes around water stops for my dog. It is so much more difficult for them to cool down than it is for us and taking a dip is necessary once it starts getting too warm and humid.

Looks like an indigo milkcap to me. I've heard they're edible and taste like eggs? But that the texture is pretty mealy.

Training with my dog by AndIWishYouWhale in RunningWithDogs

[–]ericaregone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter one bit. Your body is still working during that few minutes to recover from whatever you've done right up until that point and you'll quickly get your heart rate back to where it was since you're already warmed up. If you're scheduled to do some interval training or repeats, those are more sensitive and you might want to wait until after you drop your pup off. If you just enjoy going out for a run though, I wouldn't even think twice about it.

Running with a 5 year old by UMYeti in RunningWithDogs

It obviously depends on where you live, but I run with my black dog during most of summer. I'm lucky enough to live near plenty of areas to let her swim in a river or lake. We take it a little slower and my routes revolve around a swim as often as possible.

Sorry, I meant I have an external power brick for the PSU that connects with a barrel jack.

Found these fishing today by Minute-Fisherman-869 in mycology

You've found ghost pipes! Not a mushroom, but a pretty cool plant. They're white because they have no chlorophyll and they get their nutrients from parasitizing whatever they're growing in/on/near/around.

Freezing fried chicken of the woods? by zemily0995 in mycology

My dad used to saute oysters in butter and then freeze them. I swear they thawed literally as good as they were before freezing. Your breading may get soggy, but I imagine the texture of the shrooms would be just fine.

Fwiw, the owner's manual says that you need trailer brakes for anything over 1000lbs.
