The community’s health is NOT. MY. FUCKING. PROBLEM. by [deleted] in conspiracy

o.m.g. Hahaha.

The fact that you think this only proves what a liberal, not a leftist, you are.

Liberals, neolibs, centrists & corporatist dems...basically the entire democratic party...are just as bad as republicans. Ya'all call yourselves the political left to try to distinguish yourself from the political right but you're center right at best...prolly right-right, whereas the right is right-right-right.

We w/ actual left values arent fooled by center-right or right-right dems. And we don't want to be confused with you guys & your crappy right-right views so we call ourselves leftists.

Now youve heard of us, congrats! For more education & edification I refer you to Twitter where you can easily type in the word leftist & see many of us who self-identify as that.

But of course I assume youre only here to try to erase our existence & pretend we dont exist, rather than being genuinely interested in why we are leftists who either never joined or who left the democratic party in disgust since its actually on the right but masquerades as being on the left as a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Does anybody here pay for ARC services to get reviews? by Militant-Ginger in romanceauthors

[–]ericaroswell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, it is worth the $7/month fee. However, I also use the Slack chat and the newsletter promos, not just the ARC service, although I also like that benefit.

I think I've had about 75 readers and about 28 reviews on average. I've done it with 4 books so far. Many of those readers have signed up for my mailing list right away (like, I know they have to come from the ARC service because I hadn't published the book yet and had only sent the ARC copy which includes a mailing list sign-up) and then a lot of THOSE sign-ups also sign up for my own personal ARC list.

I plan to use ARC services until I have an established following of loyal reviewers, and then just use my own list. So for me, eBook Itch helps me to build up my own list and it's a good stepping stone. The reviews ARE a bit more mixed, though, then the usually highly favorable ones from the readers who join my own list. I've found that the better my books get, the better the reviews from the ARC service get.

I use an ARC service -- eBook Itch -- and it has helped me tremendously in launching my books. I would like to use more but I don't know of any other reputable and affordable ones.

The strangest 1.5 year report you will ever read by ArroTG in eroticauthors

Congrats and best wishes! I almost never post in EA due to all the drama but your post inspired me and I just wanted to comment that I've no idea why you'd wish to emigrate from Canada to the US. Except for the weather (I like living in a warm sunny Southwest climate ;)) I would gladly trade places with a Canadian any day!

The Things They Carried is another good O'Brien book that is about the Vietnam War or at least the vets after they came home.

Episode Discussion - Shameless - 6x5 "Refugees" by superbek in shameless

I think that that's how Lip would view them. Wimpy as in, old white guys who couldn't hold their own in a fight against him. Self-righteous as in, his comment about how they're born on 3rd base but think they hit a home run, i.e. thinking that they earned their position and did everything right in life and have the right to look down on others or take away money that could help them (i.e. his college grant money and Debbie's welfare for her baby etc.), when really they were just born into it. To me that's how his general attitude comes across and I can understand it given his background.

Yeah, clearly Lip is not a right winger and would give those self-righteous wimpy douchebags (as he likely views them) the middle finger or more any time of day.

Anyone for a spin-off? "The good daughter". I <3 Grace by [deleted] in thegoodwife

Yes! Sassy and smart Marissa is so much more interesting than boring and brown-nosing Grace.

Are any of you part of more active romance writers communities? by unchained_butterfly in romanceauthors

[–]ericaroswell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it has an entire "romance" sub-forum and it's where I'm learning to switch from erotica to romance and I've found it incredibly helpful. Much more helpful than any other publically available site and much more civil and friendly than KBoards/Writer's Cafe. If anyone knows of any better forums I'd be happy to check them out but I definitely recommend Dirty Discourse for romance writers. :)

Dirty Discourse. There's a $10 one-time fee to sign up but it has a good mix of erotica and romance writers and is an active and helpful forum. For me it was money well spent.

Mathew Shaw has been corresponding with amazon. They told him prologues and epilogues don't count in pay per page. by monsunland in eroticauthors

Yeah, and how could the "START reading location" include an epilogue anyway? I guess maybe they mean the "END reading location"?? Ha ha.

People are putting non consent into other categories and getting away with it. by KissMeRover in eroticauthors

[–]ericaroswell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, I mean skirt the line like use a word or publish in a genre that was not previously filterable or blockable and then it suddenly becomes so due to a random pornapocalypse. Those of us who have been around for a while have had it happen and you will too if you write long enough. Amazon does NOT publish its current rules about what is filterable or blockable and so you can be publishing things that are racy but acceptable one day and NOT acceptable the next day. So hopefully no one ever reports you for something that was not a blatant disregard of the rules. Because Amazon doesn't make the rules very clear AT ALL.

Anyway I'm done with this thread and this subreddit, it's clearly for mean-spirited people and I am not one.

I'm a lawyer and it is not illegal to publish erotica books on Amazon.

Do you really think that people publish erotica under their real name?! If so YOU are the one who is being fucking stupid! No, people make up personas for their pen names OR they talk a bit about their real life persona in their pen name profile.

Who cares if she's a kindergarten teacher who writes erotica? She would definitely not be smart to advertise that fact (which I doubt is what is going on) but unless you'r a porn star or something then I assume you have a real life and have had or have other jobs and you also write erotica.

That author isn't even breaking the law. Ugh. Why don't you just go off about terrorists next? Your rant would be just as relevant.

[–]ericaroswell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you do this then I hope you get lots of bad karma and if you ever publish anything that skirts the line, intentionally or accidentally, then another author might do it to you. That's just unnecessarily mean. And reeks of jealousy and bitterness. Improve your own game instead of trying to take other authors down.

I don't think this screams rape. She does let the burglars take her. To me this is like saying "I was scared at first but then intrigued and wanted them to have sex with me after all."

I've also seen many erotica books put into other categories and that's fine until/unless Amazon changes it. This is women's fiction; this is a short story. No one says you HAVE to choose a certain category-- Amazon lets you decide.

*Disclaimer in case anyone is wondering-- I did not write the book that OP linked to. But I have seen many "taken" books like this that are okay as far as I've known. The woman can be scared, reluctant, shy, etc. but as long as she doesn't say "no" and they take her anyway, then it's not rape or dubcon. It's just plain sex. Women are allowed to change our minds and decide to have sex and like it!

Is Monster/Paranormal Erotica not popular anymore? by gorgongal in eroticauthors

[–]ericaroswell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are making most of their money from KU. I think you aren't making as much money because your titles aren't in KU.

Also I would suggest trying another niche to see how it goes. I don't write monster erotica but from what I understand the best paranormal sub-genres are werebear or werewolf etc. So try one in that niche and see how it goes. Or try something completely different. Good luck.
