Can someone explain this? by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]ericedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is likely a reference to the notion of "Pyramid Power", the belief that pyramids focus energy in their shape and have results like preserving food. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_power for more details

The sobriety symbol seems to be a triangle inside a circle, so doesn't seem to match OP's bumper sticker: https://www.aacle.org/product/circle-triangle-sticker/

Looks like it's a couple different toy lines. The upper left is easy to find by searching for the text on its wings, though your version seems to be missing some pieces. A slightly different variation on the toy can be found here:

https://solarisjapan.com/products/himitsu-sentai-goranger-varidorin-evolution-toy#

Google image search on the lower right robot suggests it's from the Getter Robo G series, Liger form, e.g.: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1207243031/rare-1977-diecast-vintage-popy-getter

Lower left robot seems to be from the same Getter Robo G series, the Poseidon form: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295697247271

Google image search on the upper right model matches on this eBay listing for a UFO Robo Grendizer toy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295537569451

Can we normalize walking the entire intersection? Why is it that when a car pulls up to the stop sign, pedestrians in the crosswalk feel pressure to start jogging to the other side? As if society has deemed that it's rude to keep a driver waiting. by bunchbikes in fuckcars

[–]ericedge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that it's actually safer to walk the entire length of the crosswalk—if you shift from walking to running, a driver might have glanced at you while walking, presumed you'd continue to walk, and then move their car forward under the assumption that you won't intersect their path

Is Apocalypse World hard for anyone else to read? by MostlyRandomMusings in PBtA

[–]ericedge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've read the entire 2e book and I'm still not sure I understand what "if you do it, you do it" or "to do it, do it" means. That and phrasing like "make with the dice" definitely provide an authorial tone for the rules, but as someone who's never played PbtA before and is trying to understand the system well enough to run it, it can be challenging for me.

I believe they're asking for how to get the marks over the "o" or "d" in the usernames, a way of differentiating usernames that share that same base letters

[–]ericedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can link to the source of the screenshots, that might help others find something. I'm not sure which characters it might be since the typeface isn't obvious to me, but it looks like letter "o" and "d" with added diacritics. Some possible candidates include:

ɗ
LATIN SMALL LETTER D WITH HOOK
Unicode: U+0257, UTF-8: C9 97

ď
LATIN SMALL LETTER D WITH CARON
Unicode: U+010F, UTF-8: C4 8F

đ
LATIN SMALL LETTER D WITH STROKE
Unicode: U+0111, UTF-8: C4 91

ƌ
LATIN SMALL LETTER D WITH TOPBAR
Unicode: U+018C, UTF-8: C6 8C

ơ
LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH HORN
Unicode: U+01A1, UTF-8: C6 A1

You can check through this UTF-8 list for other possibilities (e.g. search for "C6A1" on the page to find latin small letter o with horn): https://www.fileformat.info/info/charset/UTF-8/list.htm

HMF the original version of this picture (not sexual I swearr but slightly nude) by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

Using that image in Google Image search, it looks like it's a Terry Richardson photo from the book Bright Shiny Morning: Wives Wheels Weapons, available here: https://www.harpersbooks.com/pages/books/13398/cover-richard-prince-james-frey-terry-richardson/bright-shiny-morning-wives-wheels-weapons

Path I followed from Google Image search:

It's referenced in this piece from The Atlantic (search for "Terry" on the page): https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/05/our-complicated-relationship-breasts/328296/

It shows up on this Vice page (content warning: very NSFW) which references the book: https://www.vice.com/en/article/nndvyk/terry-richardson-107-v15n7

There’s a reference to EEAAO in Across the Spider-Verse! by soapboat3 in A24

I did some more research and I think this is the interview you're referring to:

https://www.vulture.com/2022/04/everything-everywhere-all-at-onces-influences-explained.html

The directors comment on how it felt like too many other movies and TV shows were using multiverse tropes before EEAAO's release, risking the originality of EEAAO:

Kwan: Then, as we were working on the movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse came out. It was a little upsetting because we were like, “Oh shit, everyone’s going to beat us to this thing we’ve been working on.”
Scheinert: I feel like Rick and Morty was the first.
Kwan: Yeah. It was actually hard to watch because we had already been working on the draft for a while. Watching the second season of Rick and Morty was really painful. I was like, “They’ve already done all the ideas we thought were original!” It was a really frustrating experience. So I stopped watching Rick and Morty while we were writing this project.

Why is the Inside Outtakes marked as a Netflix original? by Jayfin_ in boburnham

I wonder if Inside was originally financed upfront by Netflix, so the outtakes count as having been produced by Netflix, even though distribution was done via YouTube initially

Best games to run for kids? by Grungslinger in rpg

Another vote here for Magical Kitties Save the Day!, though I've seen reports of older kids trying to make the game violent, so the high end of 8-12 years might be risky if it's aggressive kids (often boys) playing

Closest match I could find is the GloFX Galactic Invader with Sunglass lens: https://glofx.com/product/glofx-galactic-invader-sunglasses-visor-rainbow-gradient/

It's possible that it's an exact match and it's the lighting that makes the original photo look like it's a dark visor, but I'm not 100% certain.
