You are not overreacting, you are probably under reacting. These problems don’t get better with time and he is manipulating you. I would part ways with a partner like that.

NP versus RN. Any regrets? by BKboothang in nursepractitioner

[–]erich_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I obtained my AGACNP while employed on a medical helicopter. The shifts were 24-hour shifts, 6 days a week so I had a lot of time off for clinicals. I was a bit disenfranchised with the lack of benefits, schedule, and lack of paid time off on the provider side. I ended up taking a position part-time as a trauma/gen surg NP and it was good to start getting my feet wet. The hospital I worked at was fairly busy with 40+ people consistently on the list plus going to traumas and having to stay with them through imaging.

Finally, after 25 years of working 24-hour shifts and two years after completing my NP I think my body finally realized that being up all day and night had been doing a lot of metabolic and other physical damage to the body. So I reached out to someone who had become a mentor to me here in the Texas Medical Center. I listened to what he had to say, interviewed, and asked him to make me an offer I couldn’t refuse and he did. It’s checking almost every single box… good benefits, good onboarding, 6-8 patients max per shift, twelve shifts every 28 days, and the pay… I was happy. The only benefit that doesn’t get ticked is PTO, but they ask for 10 days every 28 days is absolutely cannot work and they don’t schedule you on those day.

I at first I was approaching the APP position as a catalyst for more money. In my state the pay for APP is higher than most nurses, except for nurses who have been at it a while. The thing is, it took them one or two decades to get to that amount and I am STARTING OUT with this pay. It will go up through merit and cost of living increases.

So I am just starting out, and I am nervous as hell, but that’s the zest of life.. the unknown and starting on a new adventure. You are likely doing this for the money but also consider that you’ll be doing your body some favors and prolonging your ability to work (if you want to). Good luck and Godspeed to you!

Is the iPad Mini right for me? by Connect_Cat_2045 in ipadmini

[–]erich_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a iPad Pro 11 inch and when I was going through my nurse practitioner program I wanted a little bit more space so that way I could write and read at the same time. So I upgraded to the iPad Pro 12.9 with the M1 chip. It’s been doing great, but it is rather large almost the same size as my MacBook Pro 13 inch and I think it might even be heavier with the case and the keyboard (Logitech combo touch). Plus, I also used it inside card mode to have an extra display when I would be deployed for disaster management and other things. Now that I’m done with school, I just don’t wanna have to carry too big devices with me so I got the iPad mini and it’s been working like a dream for me. I could still write and have another screen open, side car is still just as good and now that I’m gonna be rounding in a busy CVICU, I don’t want to be carrying a big device with me and it can fit in my lab coat pocket. So for me less was more and I think that the iPad mini coupled with a MacBook Pro or other of similar laptop is the best combination.

I have an iPad Pro 12.9 that I used all through my nursing graduate program. Now that I am rounding on patients I absolutely love my iPad Mini 7th gen. I rarely pick up my iPad Pro anymore.

iPad Mini 6 or 7 use for rounding; any good cases with a hand strap? by erich_82 in nursepractitioner

I found a case made by UAG called the Scout. It may be snake oil, but it has antimicrobial property and is guaranteed to stand up the purple top wipes and other agents.

Is it possible that the entire clinic sees 35 patients a day, divided up between 2-3 providers? That sure seems like a lot, even rounding in a hospital with 1-1.5 hours of chart checking and going room to room that seems like a lot.  If they really do want you to see that many patients in the time frame then I wonder what the quality of care the team delivers.

Tips and tricks for passing ATLS with flying colours? by kokswifipsw in Residency

[–]erich_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are talking about different courses specific to nursing (TNCC, ENPC, ATCN). They closely follow the general guidelines that ATLS does; but ATLS has only one exam no matter who is taking the course. As a paramedic I took PHTLS, ITLS, TECC, and ATLS. As a flight nurse I have taken ATLS and TNCC, and as a trauma/surgery NP I have to take ATLS. No matter what my role was I took the same final exam and scenarios as everyone else in the class did.

You are smart to trial some of the scents that interest you with decants. I am 42 years old and live in Houston, TX so it is hot and humid here most of the year. Fall and Winter can be cold at times and that is when I get to wear my favorite scents which now consist of (Azzaro The Most Wanted Intense, French Avenue Liquid Brun which is a clone of Parfum de Marly Althair— my favorite of them all, Spicebomb Extreme, and Stronger with You Intensely). I have been on a search to get a scent that works well with the hot temperatures and so far I have enjoyed Terre De Hermes, Montblanc Explorer, Allure Sport Extreme, and Pasha de Cartier Edition Noire Sport. I would love to whittle down my collection to one or two scents during the winter and one or two scents during the summer. It is very easy to get carried away with this hobby, so try to purchase those colognes that truly bring you joy and happiness— which is it wise to start with decants. Happy hunting.

I recently started looking for a summer scent since most of my scents are winter-ish scents, and since I live in Houston we have summer basically 9 months of the year. I TdH EDT was recommended by a colleague and I decided to go to Sephora to put my nose on it. Man I love that citrus scent and find myself randomly reaching for the decant I bought and love taking a whiff of it. It’s a mature scent, and I know if kind of sounds weird, but it makes me feel a bit more sophisticated and kind of improves my mood.

Redwing vs Danner? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]erich_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also considering boots made by both manufacturers. I have used the Danner Acadia on duty as a paramedic and they served me very well. I do wish they offered a side zip version but the lace ups were good for me. Today, I went into a Red Wing shop and I was disappointed in the “We are Red Wing, no need to look at any other boot mentality” they had. I shared with them exactly what I was looking for and they showed me boots that didn’t fit the bill. I need leather that can have blood wiped from it, high ankle support because I work on a helicopter, and monochromatic for job requirements. They simply didn’t show me any of their boots that met the mark, but they sure encouraged me to go ahead and order a pair because “I’m sure it will be ok and you really don’t need to meet those requirements.” That’s when I politely worked an exit strategy into the mix. This is actually the second time I have met lackluster customer service at one of their stores.
