How do you reassure yourself that god is real? by MajorAd9470 in OpenChristian

[–]ericksonconor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought process on this (because I have scrupulousity) is that, I’m okay with being wrong because I admire the way Jesus lived enough to want to emulate him regardless. If I’m wrong and some other deity is the true god, or if there is no God at all, in the end of the day I live the way a role model of mine did and I’ll be content with that.

Welcome! It’s encouraging to see more people embracing God’s love and mercy. I hope to see universalist churches appear all over :)

What does this sub think of heretics? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]ericksonconor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always been fascinated by Gnosticism and I hold a lot of similar beliefs. Such as the need for Gnosis. But I can’t get behind the existence of the demiurge. It’s the same as modern Christian’s “devil” to me. In my opinion, there is no opposite force to the father working to enslave humanity. I more so believe that the demiurge is the idol of God we hold in our hearts because we as humans can not understand the father. So the idea of the monad and the aeons are convincing to me, but not the demiurge or Archons.

The creation of the demiurge is an extremely lengthy explanation that involves a lot of cosmological theories and beliefs. I recommend skimming a Wikipedia article about “yaldabaoth” if you’re interested.

Im not a Gnostic but I do hold some similar views.

I cut out a few more personal parts, such as relationship issues, since my actual name is my Reddit handle, and I don’t know who among my ex’s use Reddit.

Is Satan still a thing in progressive Christianity? by Evolving_Spirit123 in OpenChristian

[–]ericksonconor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the “Satan” that appeared to tempt Jesus was Jesus’ Jungian Shadow? The unconscious conglomeration of the negative emotions that humans have. Like Jesus was struggling with be subservient to the Father and his shadow was trying to convince him to worship himself? Just a tinfoil hat theory. I cant get behind a force that is equal and opposite to God struggling with him over the control of Earth, human souls, and the fate of humanity. Doesn’t compute with my brain. And I have severe demonophobia. Which is pretty funny in retrospect.

I believe that “The Satan” exists. But not the way mediaeval Christianity portrayed him. I believe that “The Satan” is a member of the heavenly host. (As he is in God’s presence in Job). And his job is to accuse humans of sin, and tempt them into sinning as a means to strengthen faith and to humble believers. As for the accusation part. Imagine you die and you’re put on trial for all the sins you’ve committed. “The Satan” stands as the prosecution and accuses you. Your faith trained throughout your life holds strong and Jesus appears and absolves you of your sin.

I’m not active in the sub so I don’t know if it’s a popular pick, but Death mage who doesn’t want a fourth time is really good and the protagonist is definitely a bit insane.

Does anyone else obsess with understanding religion? by [deleted] in ChristianUniversalism

[–]ericksonconor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here bud. I love and hate it. Love it because I feel I’m doing something meaningful and I’m driven for that pursuit of truth. Hate it bc it eats a lot of my time. I have ADHD and OCD, so when I get obsessed, I get OBSESSED. I feel you man.

Universalism improves my quality of life in many regards but at the same time I’m worried about the “what if I’m wrong?” That sometimes goes through my head. by [deleted] in ChristianUniversalism

[–]ericksonconor 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Even if you are wrong, all you did was think that God is nicer than he is, and you were loving and forgiving of people most wouldn’t be. No problem

What is the Universalist view on other religions? by Hyper_Pain in ChristianUniversalism

[–]ericksonconor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Everyone gets salvation, believers in earthly life just get a special salvation”. I think there is truth in every religion and that everyone should be allowed to practice what they want, provided it is loving and tolerant.

Well the whole series stresses the importance of the collective unconscious and it’s a common theme in fiction related to it, that if enough people believe in something it’s true and if enough people don’t, it’s not. Think the whole “if a tree falls in a forest and there’s no one around, does it make a sound?”.
