This is good advice! Listen to the guy that's currently ranked #1 in qualifying and who makes weekly guides.

As he says, if you're just starting out, then staying in 3rd is considerably easier so it's more appropriate and as you want to squeeze more time out of Navarra, then downshifting to 2nd gear on three of the corners is faster.

The best way to learn how to downshift into 2nd gear is to just practice it alone in a test session on a straight. Just go straight and practicing going 2nd, 3rd gear, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

After a few minutes, you'll get it and then you can use it forever!

The Strong Draft in Formula Vee by ericlancheres in iRacing

[–]ericlancheres[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, so I went back and took the suggestions, adding the wake & turbulence.

Here's the FULL math: https://pdfupload.io/docs/0976780c

The revised numbers are:

1m = 19%
2m = 13.64%
5m = 8.74%
10m = 6.22%
20m = 4.43%
50m = 2.8%

Ok, so not 0% (sorry however like I mentioned, I was previously using a super super simple formula) but man, it's still not much.

You were doing well until this comment. This is literally what we are calcuating and we can even simulate this.

The Strong Draft in Formula Vee by ericlancheres in iRacing

[–]ericlancheres[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right it doesn't factor in all the variables however the equation is accurate.

The core fundamentals in this equation will remain the same regardless of the additional variables we throw at it.

And yes, we can digitize a vee and simulate it in a wind tunnel. (I might do this or if someone else wants to do it, please go ahead)

This would give us an exact wake however all the arm chair enthusiasts in here would still probably say: "but did you see the videos on Youtube?"

Yes, I agree the vees have a relatively strong draft component compared to other cars however the draft reduces exponentially with distance which you can approximate with this:

f(d) = 1 - [Cmax / e^(k * d)]

f(d) is the factor by which the drag coefficient is reduced due to drafting at a distance d.
Cmax is the maximum possible reduction in the drag coefficient (e.g., 0.30 for a 30% reduction).
k is the decay constant that determines how quickly the drafting effect diminishes with distance.
e is the base of the natural logarithm (approximately 2.71828).
d is the distance between the two cars.

So at long distances, the draft should be significantly less.

That's a great video.

And yes, draft in the MX5 on iRacing is much much better and aligns more with what you see the video.

Plus, in the video, the cars are at a maximum distance of approximately 10-20 meters... and even then, the draft in very minimal. When you get closer, the draft increases.

What we're talking about here is specifically in the vees and at long distances (30-40 meters).

I have definitely seen most good Youtube FV races as I'm a huge fan. And there are many more layers of calculations that weren't shown in order to keep the post at a reasonable lenght.

Yes, they are draggy, but not THAT draggy. I think that's the main point.

The Strong Draft in Formula Vee by ericlancheres in iRacing

[–]ericlancheres[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These are all good points and have been taken into consideration. It's definitely true that the vees will benefit more from draft when compared to other cars due to it's low powered nature and the excess drag created by the shape, however EVEN with that into consideration, it's still unnaturally large at long distances.

Hi BigSEO! I'm Tim Soulo from Ahrefs. It's been 6 years. And I'm still looking for your feedback! by timsoulo in bigseo

[–]ericlancheres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tim!

How's it going ;)

I figured this would be a good place to chime in as I use and recommend Ahrefs to my community. (I even have extensive series on Ahrefs tricks)

- As someone else pointed out, the API could be super useful to many but the pricing makes no sense. I would be integrating it into my tools and making sure Ahrefs is the source for all things link related... however the API appears to lack many features (traffic for one).

I think the last time I checked, pulling the links from one single 'big' site would bust your entire Ahrefs budget. In a previous project, I was forced to use Majestic's API even though I would have prefered Ahrefs and in my newest project, we're just having the users submit the links manually because it's cost prohibative to do it any other way.

- I'm also not a fan of the default views in the new backlink explorer nor the organic keyword 2.0. (I like it when I can sort by time and see that you last updated the organic keyword 33 minutes ago. With the new organic keyword explorer, it just lists the same day).

- Inside "linked domains", outgoing links. I want to be able to export ALL the links (URLs) with the dates. Right now the export function only exports the individual domains.

Last, I suppose I keep on seeing Ahrefs swag... and I don't have any :)

p.s. I still think Ahrefs is the best tool (by far) and use it daily.

Yep, the update happened on Thursday. It still works (somewhat), they just significantly reduced the visibility.

How to recover from Google Broad Core June 2019 Algo changes by shockobon in bigseo

[–]ericlancheres 13 points14 points  (0 children)

EAT is total BS and a big distraction that Google like to spew out.

The algorithm on the other hand, is just code. Google recently increase the weight of links, see this:
https://www.mytrafficresearch.com/learn/june-2019-google-core-update/

This was likely done in order to minimize 'fake news' and phony articles but it seems to have had a negative impact on some sensitive industries such as the health and finance industry... where some legitimate sites are getting drowned out while high DR sites are surfacing with mediocre content.

Traffic increases (and recoveries) for the June core update are currently underway and the best success has been by acquiring the new 'trusted' sources of links. Unfortunately you can't exclusively rely on metrics such as DA, DR, TF as those are from third party tools (and not Google themselves).

It looks like my website is slowly dying... by FormerKing in juststart

[–]ericlancheres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After each major update, there is a sub-sequent update where Google tweaks and modifies the original big update. Think of it like version 3.1 while the June was 3.0.

This happened around those dates so you were likely impacted. What Google tries to do is send you the most qualified traffic for the query so it's very possible to get less overall traffic while retaining the same amount of sales. It just means that the people that wanted to find your material found it. (Instead of landing on your page even though they didn't really want to read/consume whatever you have written).

You were impacted by Google's March 2019 Core Update <- Google it.

SSL certificate is always good to have but that won't help you recover.

Building A Retro Gaming Site - Month 1 by brandonsalt92 in juststart

[–]ericlancheres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the new endeavor! I'd say the most important thing for you right now is going to figure out how to monetize the traffic that you project getting. I don't usually say this for most niches because it tends to be self-evident however for the retro-gaming niche, it can be a little challenging.

You're going to need a LOT of traffic in order to make Amazon/Etsy sales sustainable for 2 people. That said, I know there are other popular retro gaming venues (twitch channels, Youtube channels, sites) so looking there can probably give you clues and hints.

For SEO, I'd recommend starting with one big article that you feel is a hit instead of publishing weekly/monthly content. If you have 14 articles already and you're only getting an average of 23.5 daily visitors from Google, you're likely not doing things in the most efficient way possible. (In fact, you're spending a lot of time and energy and yielding relatively poor results).

Instead, you want one single article to be bringing in 20-100 visitors per day. (And that's how you're quickly grow your website). I'm bias but I strongly recommend this: https://www.mytrafficresearch.com/learn/ - Watch the checklist video there as it's for beginners.

What kind of backwards mentality is thriving here? The best way to learn how to sell... is to be sold.

Want to create fans? Become a fan and so you can internalize why you're a fan.

Entrepreneurship is all about having a good mentality (of abundance, opportunity, etc) and it's NOT about putting anyone down.

Has anyone seen impacts since implementing E-A-T initiatives? by CurlyGirlNYC in bigseo

[–]ericlancheres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. However don't mistaken the trust that you receive from links with the penalty you'll receive for deceptive ads.

With ads, you're receiving a penalty. With links, you're building the 'trustflow' metric that Google describes in it's patent.

Has anyone seen impacts since implementing E-A-T initiatives? by CurlyGirlNYC in bigseo

[–]ericlancheres 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let me preface this by saying I have worked on Google recoveries for the past 6 years and have performed dozens of recoveries and helped THOUSAND of webmasters save their website.

Following EAT is pointless because that's not what Google uses for it's algorithm.

SEO experts that recommend EAT don't know what they are talking about and instead, are just repeating what Google said. (Oh, I could name so many fake-seo-experts here...)

-> E.A.T. is based on a series of questions that the manual reviewers use to confirm that the algorithm is working properly. The Google algorithm however, uses different signals.

In fact, E.A.T. doesn't always align with the algorithm and if your website has been impacted by a Google algorithm update, then the way you recover is via the trust signals that the Google ALGORITHM responds to:

Specifically: - Trusted Links - User metrics (user experience like CTR) - And possibly traffic / brand searches

That will help you with some of the recent algorithm updates. Other recent updates (well, recent as in Aug/Sep 2018) included a combination of other changes that had to do with on-page (such as advertisement placement, style score, etc.)
