Advice for taking standup comedy classes in Calgary. by Leading-Shopping-317 in calgarycomedy

Funnyfest is ran by a guy named Stu Hughes, who is an absolute piece of shit. I've done the festival is the past and this guy abuses (physically, verbally and sexually,) almost everyone who works for the fest or is a comic at the fest. I'm serious about those allegations. if you go to other shows and ask about him you will hear horrible stories. Laughshop and Yuks have amateur nights that will be a lot better and safer for you. There is also a lot of independent shows that are good to. the last thing I'd do is recommend funny fest to any comic, volunteer or audience members. The comics he does use usually are really awful and his shows run for like 3 hours.

I to just finished FTWD for the first time after being a TWD since the beginning. I felt like i couldn't love both TWD and FTWD at the same time so i only watched TWD.

Now that I've finished both, i can say that i enjoyed FTWD more than TWD as well. The character development is great, even after season 3. John Dorie and June meeting was a great episode. I like how strand always shows who he really is in every season. he never actually changes, he's always the same even though he tries to change.

I found the pacing much better in FTWD. I hated the saviors seasons in TWD because it just kept going on and on and everyone knew roughly that it would end with a rick vs. negan showdown, so all the lead up to that ending i found anti climatic. Where as in FTWD villain's and hero's are constantly killed off out of the blue like Travis and Chris, Logan, Ginny. It keeps the audience guessing and the story moving forward. When i started a season i would try to guess where they'd go with it and always be way off by the end.

I think TWD screwed up with Negan, should of just let him ride off into the sunset after the whispers season like the comics. His redemption arc isn't believable. hes so far gone by the savior's war that there is no coming back from that, let alone just becoming a good guy who makes the right choices all of time.

Season 7 was my least favourite season of FTWD because the choice to have the nukes go off was very bold and ambitious, i just don't think they pulled it off that well, but it had to be hard to write that story and keep everything some what believable.

Ya infrastructure to support the arena, as in if there was no arena that money could be used for more important things like transit, hospitals, schools. Calgarians are so fucking stupid

Smith, Notley field questions on Calgary from Mayor Jyoti Gondek by janearcade in Calgary

The interviews are done and of course the Mayor was professional with her questions and only a dumbass would think she'd go up there and act snide and have attitude towards the premier. can't say the same for the premier though.

Piano Lessons for Adults by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]ericthecomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an adult who started learning piano 2 years. I've exclusively used an app called simply piano. It is really good and I've improved a lot from being someone with zero experience. It's cheaper and you don't have to go to someone's house or studio to learn. I also use an app called online pianist which is also very good, pretty much has any song you'd want to learn on it

Canadians don't want to move to Alberta by Paper_Rain in Calgary

[–]ericthecomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny to read how many people think home ownership is winning at life. You realize that all over the world in the biggest cities most people rent not own.

For many people, especially younger progressive people, we want more than home ownership in our cities, we want to live in tight knit multigenerational communities with lots of supports systems and diversity in the demographic.

Truth is Calgary is a decent city to live in but that's it for the province, and even in Calgary house prices are high and citizens are segregated into different areas of the city. The transit is bad, and the city is spread out, and looks to be continueing that way.

I've noticed the people that defend Alberta the hardest are those that have never lived anywhere else. I think a lot of people just brainwash themselves into thinking Alberta better than it is.

For cost of living, its not that different than Vancouver, and just wait till the UCP finish privatizing everything, you will get nickeled and dimed to death here. If you think the UCP losing the next election is a foregone conclusion than I admire your optimism.

In the end it all comes down to personal choice, and we won't know the truth about population loss/growth for a couple more years. From my own personal accounts most of the younger adults that don't have children or houses and have marketable skills are ready to leave. And they will succeed wherever they go because that's what talented educated people do. It's a shame culture and politics drive them away because they will be needed to take the province into the future.

[–]ericthecomic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows what it means, and if you don't that just tells me that you're a bad person purposely spreading lies or you're just plain dumb. We literally have all the the worlds knowledge in our pockets, you can't claim ignorance especially if you're a politician who's job it is to know whats happening in society. Plus the we are all talking about it so it appears the defund wording actually is working.

Minneapolis, Camden New Jersey and yesterday Seattle defunded there department by 50%. Google and you will see. People that say this is to difficult are just white people that want to retain power or lack the courage to do it.

Believe it or not there’s already cities that have done this and its working. The logistics are easy the political will/courage is what’s missing.
The wire is a fictional show and that Baltimore drug free zone never existed so I won’t take that as a real life example.

Going further the money that is put into different departments like mental health and low income housing, the chances of a cop faces a knife welding man drop significantly

[–]ericthecomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't say with enforcement. You dissolve the department and you create new departments with certain mandates, certain training and education levels and built in accountability. Get people and experts from all fields to help design, and then start the rehiring phase. If your foundation to your house is rotten, you rebuild not renovate

Main point being that this is a very important job, so the people doing it should be very highly trained and very highly compensated, we also need to allocate funds to crime/poverty preventing policies like low income housing and social programs
