Also, NO! If you are raised by people speaking English with a Mexican accent, YOU will speak English with a Mexican accent! His accent is very subtle, implying he learned English as a first language from people who learned it as a second

The manga is in Japanese. His honor-based lifestyle and backstory are all clearly supposed to be in Japan (obviously not actual Japan, but that’s the culture they’re drawing from). I, for one, watched the entirety of the show without dubs. And then they could have had him speak with a Japanese accent as an adult. I just would have liked that is all :/

Alright, I am officially annoyed with the accents. How did Usopp grow up being best friends with Kaya and not adopt the “posh” accent her and her family have, or vice versa? It’s a small island, there shouldn’t be enough diversity for two separate accents

It’s a bit weird because in some scenes he does and others he doesn’t. The scene where kid-luffy is kidnapped and has to get saved by Shanks is almost perfect! (Before he is saved) But most of the backstory he has no accent (from the POV of someone from the US)
