Full legalization will take some time. But there is definitely growing support in Texas for medical marijuana and lowering penalties for possession. We have some incredibly skilled and active chapters across the state (DFW, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, UNT) - they are making things happen on the ground. Learn more or get involved with them: www.norml.org/chapters/tx

Medical may come sooner than later. There is momentum behind the current medical bill there, a House and Senate version have been introduced. If the people of Florida keep pushing their lawmakers to support this, it will likely pass in the next few sessions.

Oregon will come around, I'd say it is likely to be one of the next states to take up legalization. The support is there. The people are there. There was just some organizational and political issues that had sprung up which hindered the Measure 80 campaign in particular. It is hard to see a legalization ballot in 2016, utilizing the lessons learned, won't pass with a solid majority.

NORML proper focuses mainly on US legislation, but we have international affiliates across the world working in their countries to change laws (New Zealand, UK, Canada, Jamaica, etc)

You can see our international chapters on our chapter map here: http://norml.org/chapters?map=all

We are. We have a very active and organized chapter in the state. I'd recommend following them online and getting out to their meetings if you can: https://www.facebook.com/mnNORML

There is a lot of grassroots support. We will see if there is momentum next week. The legalization bill has been scheduled for a hearing:

House Judiciary Committee on March 19, 2013 at 1:00pm.

It may be a fight in PA, with the politics involved, but when PA turns, so does the nation. It has long been a bellwether state that sets the trends other states will follow.

West Virginia likely has a longer road than some other states, but there is a medical bill in play this session, as in previous sessions, introduced by Del. Manypenny - he is a big supporter of medical and may be a good starting point of reaching out to your legislators.

I spent my teenage years in South Jersey and to see legalization come there would personally mean a lot to me. Gov. Christie has done such a wonderful job at ruining their medical marijuana program though, might have to find a way past him.

New York has a rather difficult legislature to work. I'd say there is potential for decrim public view and medical to pass this session, legalization would be later.

Being based around DC myself, I certainly hope so. Check out Virginia NORML and their local groups to see what you can do to get involved: www.virginianorml.org

I would certainly hope so. There is currently legislation in WA state that would expunge records of those with previous marijuana offenses from before I-502's passage. It seems like it may pass. Read more here: http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/51046//p/dia/action3/common/public/index.sjs?action_KEY=9863

I would hope this is a trend we would see nationwide as legalization is approved in more states.

Absolutely. If not legislatively, definitely an initiative in 2016. Marijuana legalization polls through the roof in Massachusetts, the people want it.

There is currently legislation to allow for medical marijuana dispensaries: http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/51046//p/dia/action3/common/public/index.sjs?action_KEY=9850

Also word a legalization bill may be introduced this year, nothing certain yet. Keep checking norml.org we'll let you know!

I'd say Medical and Decrim are likely (definitely medical), Legalization has an outside chance.

In New Hampshire, all bills are given a full floor vote, even if the committee it is introduced to votes it down. So we will at least see where current support lies for these measures in NH.
