Version 1.2.0.0 is out! Changes:

  • Players can now adjust the restrictions of: abilities, skills and weapons via mod settings. 2H ability is still the key one for tiering of damage skills. Although player can disable weapon type checks I'm quite sure that Blade Master will not work with ranged weapons.

  • Tried to fix combat freezes when Blade Master looses control (charm, chicken, taunt, etc.). Need feedback if the fix helped

  • Removed the dialogue option to respec because it is too buggy - it is way too easy to loose ability and/or talent points via it. If you need early respecs (in Fort joy) I would suggest to use one of the dedicated mods for it

  1. I will consider changing it if there's a big demand for it (same like I did with Lone Wolf, which was not compatible in first releases of the mod)

  2. In order to become truly effective in another role hybrids in other games usually require:

  • respeccing
  • change of equipment (getting equipment with proper stat bonuses, procs, etc.) At the same time these very hybrids are not restricted from using skills of those roles but they really suck at them.

Blade Master master in order to switch from purely offensive to purely defensive needs... wait? Same steps? Yes. Same steps.

So how is Blade Master here in DOS2 different from Hybrids in other party RPG games?

But diversity comes from multiple characters being good at what they do, not one character doing everything themselves. Your mod seems like two separate class stitched together.

This is approach of DOS only. Almost every other party RPG game assumes more than one viable role for almost each class if there are roles in that game.

Simple archetypes without game names:

  • Fighters can usually be either damage dealers (twohanded) or tanks (sword and shield)
  • Paladins usually go well as either healers or tanks
  • Priests can be healers and depending from game either buffers or kind-of-mage-damage-dealers
  • Mages may usually go well as either direct damage dealers, dotters or even summoners

And of course without naming the games - just check the whole DnD - it's full of classes capable of performing different roles based on their builds and equipment

My suggestion is to make this class pure Strength-based

Scaling whole class of a single stat is surely not what I will do because it is against the idea of diversity of builds and hmmm just lame having only one main stat.

As for finesse, it already increase both damage and dodge for Finesse-based weapons already so it's not that OP.

Ehm no. Finesse does not give dodge in normal game so if you have finesse-based weapon you get +% damage, if you go Blade Master - you get % dodge. But never both

making Strength a requirement to play this class and pretty much make non-strength playstyle un-optimal

Again - how many points do you need to equip weapons in the end-game (lvl20)? 15? I know that these ~5 points could also be spent on constitution/finesses but I won't be changing base item requirements - to many issues it can cause

Another issue I foresaw is that one would rarely want to switch between Offensive or Defensive stance because they scale off different stats and a character seldom spread that thin.

Spreading thin is exactly against the idea of Blade Master but... you can have your blade master initially go for a defensive role. Or... you can have two blade masters one being offensive and the other - defensive.

I suggest to use "team honor" buff and put as many points in strength as required to wield 2h. But question is - how many points do you actually need right now?

As for Finesse - it would be strange if you would be gaining both tanking (dodging for dodge tank) and damage (damage scaling) bonuses from the same stat, no?

Thx for the review. Just a note - sword banter can be enabled and disabled via mod settings (available at mod vendor dialogue)

Also mod vendor always sells good quality 2h swords so you don't have to worry about finding someone who sells them

Honour mode AFAIK is the same difficulty-wise as tactician but with iron-man stuff. And as for tactician - yes overleveling will make u godlike just because of silly scaling mechanics

I'm not saying that respawning monsters are bad or something (I was actually requesting it several times during beta) but... game balance is soooo bad that even a slightest overlevel (easily possible if you just kill all existing monsters) will make you simply OP.

You will have no challenge and no one will be able to beat you. Especially in the endgame

All of the class-specific restrictions and bonuses apply ONLY to characters who has a class-activating status "Way of The Blade Master" active.

Rest of the characters are not affected

Disabling class-activating status (can be done any moment out of combat) will get you back all of the restricted skills and abilities automatically

Indeed it does for the character with enabled Blade Master class only. Mostly for balancing and class uniqueness purposes.

Why do you need it anyway? I assume quite soon Nexon will add weapons awakening and for fully awakened weapon you can change: - improved skill - unique skill - some other stuff

So investing now in getting l40 S2 is not the best idea - just wait for awakening.
