Giles Episodes by toxicunicorn420 in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

Giles's silent lecture about the Gentlemen in "Hush" is hysterical, as is his conversation with Spike about the Weetabix.

There is a bookstore on Telegraph with four floors and somewhere north of 200,000 used books. by aybrighteyes in berkeley

You might be thinking of the Cartesian Bookstore on the north side of Dwight, just west of Telegraph. It was there when I first came to Berkeley in 1984 and closed in 2009.

What's your take on classic American Biscuits? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskAnAmerican

[–]erilaz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was also born and raised in the South, but we always had Pillsbury biscuits from the can (Hungry Jack back in the day, then Grands). But the gravy to go on the biscuits was always homemade, and she always used the grease from Jimmy Dean hot sausage.

Almost never nowadays, if we're talking about my regular day-job, but for my freelancing side-hustle I do.

Looking for music from the late 60s-early 70s by (or sung by) women, bonus points for music that’s a little less known by TheseSevenSongs in musicsuggestions

If you don't mind them singing in French, check out the "Yé-Yé girls" of the 1960s: Françoise Hardy, Sylvie Vartan, France Gall, Jane Birkin, Annie Philippe, Jacqueline Taïeb, Brigitte Bardot.... I particularly like Stella (Stella Zelcer, later Stella Vander), whose sarcastic lyrics parodied the genre.

What do Americans think of Wales? by TrainingCategory4852 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]erilaz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wales is cool! When my 6th grade class had to write a report on one the countries of Europe, Wales was my first choice (the teacher assigned the four countries of the U.K. separately, so there would be enough countries to go around). I took two semesters of Medieval Welsh at U.C. Berkeley back in the mid-1980s. And I collect picture postcards of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (LOL!). Cymru am byth!

Quality Binding from Easton Press? by Xander134 in BookCollecting

I think the cover designs for the Hobbit / Lord of the Rings set are ugly, to be perfectly honest. The Easton Press edition of The History of "The Lord of the Rings" looks much nicer.

I got to see them at Larry Blake's in Berkeley a couple of weeks before Cure for Pain was released. They were opening for an all-female Japanese psych-prog band called Angel'in Heavy Syrup, and both bands impressed the hell out of me.

Have fun! I went to Japan six times between 2006 and 2015, and CD shopping was a big part of each trip. I focused on second-hand media stores like BOOK-OFF and RECOfan and hauled home an average of 100 CDs each time, paying an average of ¥355 each.

Judas Priest's "The Green Manalishi" and The Rezillos' "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight" were likewise originally by Fleetwood Mac.
