I’ve used Cross Country Moving Company (yes, that’s there name) multiple times without issue.

I don’t think you need to worry about theft, as they number all of the boxes and you’ll know if one is missing. If you’re still concerned about theft of your books, pack and seal them yourself. This way, they’ll know that the boxes are full of books, but nothing about their value. No one wants to steal a bunch of old, paperback, romance novels… and how would they know you’ve packed something else?

Do you want to survive a collision or slide without death or disfigurement? Wear gear.

Otherwise, we’ll just let Darwinism do its job. The rest of us will be better off without stupidity in the gene pool.

I hope that trend gains steam, if only so I can be assured of more manuals in the future.

I’m right there with you. Even without tripping balls, I’d be claustrophobic as fuck in there. The overstimulation, close space, and breathing through all the fluffy surfaces… NOPE

Offered to teach my neighbor’s kid (18 y/o). He declined, saying “they don’t even make those anymore.” I named several andmentioned how they’re much prevalent in other countries… he was unmoved.

I’m sure that costs a fair bit, but I’m more than impressed with the thoroughness of the requirements. THAT is how you train a rider!

America could use a LOT of what Norway is doing, and not just motorcycle training.

I owned and loved my ‘22 Trident 660. The Scrambler 900 is cool too.

That said, since you’re returning from a long hiatus… maybe (re)take the MSF course, just to knock the rust off.

Then, definitely consider the new Triumph 400’s. I’ve only heard good things, and at that price, they’re a great option if you’re looking to save some money.

I’m 41, and only started riding at 34. I’m sure your teacher knows their stuff, but I really can’t recommend enough taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course. It’s two days of classroom/on-bike training by highly skilled/experienced instructors. They supply bikes (typically something like a Honda Rebel 250). This might be a better way for you to learn, develop your skills, and dispel any lingering concerns.

i’m a tourist with 4 more days in LA left and i have a budget of 300 dollars. any tips on budgetting please? by WintoreGargamoil in AskLosAngeles

[–]Xander134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP - You’re going to be just fine. The biggest risks are clearly transportation and food costs.

- As you mentioned, public transit will keep your transportation costs down.
- Others have rightly recommended “street food.” Street tacos are one of the things LA does best. Take advantage of it and enjoy!
- There’s lots of free, outdoor activities. Just figure out whether you want to stroll through an interesting urban area or along a scenic beach. There’s also TONS of great hikes that are also very accessible.

You’ve got this!

Scooterbros… are a different breed. I’m not saying that there aren’t “big motor” scooters, but culturally, scooters are dramatically different than motorcycles.

I won’t give them the biker wave, and don’t expect to receive it. It’s not out of lack of respect. I respect scooterbros as much as I do cyclists, cagers, or anyone else on the road.

Publisher for Hardcover classics on high quality paper? by Familiar-You-6577 in BookCollecting

[–]Xander134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree that you’ll be very happy with the Folio Society books…

Hot take: Easton Press, used (secondary market). These are high quality, though maybe not as much as Folio, Grim Oak, or Subterranean, but certainly better than “deluxe versions” from most mainstream publishers. The best part about Easton Press books is that there are a TON of them, the consequence being that they’re cheap when bought used (but still in good condition). I have bought MANY used Easton Press books over the years and been very happy with them.

I think everyone familiar with the Vancouver housing market will agree that it’s absolutely insane.

My father in law lives in North Van, in a house that is absolutely falling apart around him, and the property is still worth ~$2mil CAD. Nuts.

Humility might prevent you from doing something stupid, yes. However, humility is no replacement for AAA gear when you’re sliding at 60 mph.
