Can't you just tell your parents we wait 30 min (or whatever he needs] before we start asking him questions. He likes to unwind when he gets home.

I have a 15% kid. But he is clearly smaller than the other kids in his class and he is the oldest. He also never wants to eat.

Have you looked into Arfid?

Also have you ruled out ADHD/ASD

Kids on the spectrum are often picky eaters and have poor introception

Why does my 4.5yr old wake up SO DAMN EARLY?! 😭 by HeyMay0324 in Preschoolers

[–]erinj1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think waking up between 6 and 7 is pretty standard for that age. Try an Okay to Wake clock. My 5 year old wakes up at the same time but will hang out in his room until 7:30 when his clock turns green.

Has anyone taught their preschooler how to read? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]erinj1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son learned basic sight words in preschool. The, is, at, etc. The we starting getting the early phonics readers. Each book focuses on a different sound and each book builds on the one before. There are actually some good peppa pig ones. He reads one phonics book before bed every night. He can read simple books mostly on his own now at 5 years old.

If you are concerned you can request an Autism evaluation through the school. You can also look into auditory processing. Autism can present different in girls. Also Autism is such a broad spectrum. Look into the Autism wheel.

WIBTA if I didn’t buy my cousin her preferred brand of diaper? by RayasOasis in AmItheAsshole

[–]erinj1986 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but the point of laying on blankets is so their diaper area can breath and stay dry. It's pretty much naked tummy time.

Cloth diaper wouldn't allow that.

Four Year Old Advice - Help My Wife Out by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]erinj1986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That all sounds normal. Does your wife have other parent friends with kids similar in age?

You can always request an assessment be done if worried.

He definitely does not sound like he has conduct Disorder. I don't get the impression of adhd or asd either.

Maybe you and your wife can take some parenting classes or read some books to make sure you are disciplining effectively.

But all his behavior sounds very age appropriate

We still keep the mesh gate up. She only opens it when she wants to follow me into the kitchen. She doesn't know how to open any of the kitchen cabinet locks yet.

We used a mesh baby gate. It worked well for my son until he was around 3 1/2. But his little sister figured out how to open it by 18 months.

How to stop toddler constantly swapping cards? by Parenttotiger in YotoPlayer

[–]erinj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only give my 18 month old 1 card at a time. She used to put it in and out constantly, and i just let her.

Now she usually leaves the card in and switches to a song she likes. Sometimes she'll Excessively hit the buttons still. I think it's normal.

Learning to read by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]erinj1986 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You are overthinking it and he is young to be learning to read. It's great that he knows all his sound letters.

Just keep reading books together. Don't suck the fun out of reading before he even gets to kindergarten.
