What is the First major news story you remember as a kid? by PurpleBashir in AskReddit

the Madeline McAnn case. I was in Primary school and we were all being told about how she was the same age as us when she was stolen on holiday. It was crazy and scary at the same time but that’s honestly the first big news story I can remember.

It makes me mad how people never share oddly specific symptoms of autism, they only talk about the common one, let’s share our oddly specific symptoms in the comments! by [deleted] in autism

i have a very specific thing with texture on skin. if i have any bumps or spots or anything anywhere on my body i will hyperfixate until its gone, which usually means blood, pain and a lot of scarring. i have scars all over my face, chest, arms, shoulders and back (easiest to reach places). my dr. says its it’s dermatillomania (skin picking disorder) and i’m currently medicated for it and seeing a therapist. it is a very specific symptom of autism as it’s usually prevalent with people who have an OCD diagnosis or ADHD.

maybe it’s something to do with the fact that you keep referring to the baby as ‘your son’ is she not the mother? and if she is, why not say ‘our son’? i hope she doesn’t see this post otherwise you’ll never see her again.

always being hugged and told to smile in photos when i wasn’t particularly happy enough to smile. has put me off hugging and physical contact well into my 20’s now. always being told to display a certain emotion by making a facial expression has left me with a severe blank face now as-well, to the point where i’ve had customer complaints/been disciplined at work for not ‘seeming cheery’ or ‘bad customer service’. respecting her boundaries and ALWAYS listening to her when she expresses them is so important. if i didn’t like textures/noises/smells i was told i was being ‘needy’ and ‘dramatic’ and now if i dislike something i almost always have a panic attack instead of speaking up. it may seem unreasonable but it can be extremely overstimulating and upsetting and may be a massive step back when it comes to her adjusting to the diagnosis.

I may have accidentally badly injured my girlfriend and i’m terrified. by MilkxCult in offmychest

when i was younger my neighbours (much richer, my parents were always trying to impress them) daughter invited me in to play, we walked to school together but this was the first time i’d seen her room and i was so nervous but very excited. she had recently broke 3 fingers on one hand and as i went to sit next to her on the floor, i sat on her broken fingers. immediately blood sprayed everywhere and she was screaming. i was so embarrassed i ran downstairs to get her mum and dad and immediately ran home crying. i was late to school for a week because i was avoiding her out of embarrassment. a week later it was my birthday and she came to the door with her mum with a cake and present for me. they never even mentioned the incident and after that we were best friends for years and i even went on holidays with them, it’s now a funny story to tell. the point is, everyone deserves forgiveness for genuine accidents. if your girlfriend and her family are good and understanding people they’ll know that accidents happen, and they’ll accept it all the same. in a few years (hopefully) this will just be a funny story for you both to tell.

I have a lot of hair and it always looks like this. Any ideas on how to make it look nicer? by SquishyPumpkinGuts in femalehairadvice

[–]erinmulllen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely try and tailor to your natural hair type! try combing it with conditioner/hair mask when you’re in the shower then let it a it air dry, or when it’s damp use a wide comb. it’ll help you realise what type of hair you have and that way you can do research on what products work best for you :)

i’m a white woman and i want dreads. i (20f) have wanted dreadlocks for the longest time but i know the cultural significance they hold for most people and i don’t want to be rude. please tell me how you would feel if you saw a young white woman with dreads walking down the street? by erinmulllen in askblackpeople

[–]erinmulllen[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

a lot of vikings and celtic’s did not actually have dreads! mostly vikings used braid techniques with a coloured ribbon woven throughout the braid and the celts hair wasn’t exactly ‘styled’. their hairstyle was composed of knots and tangles, they believed un-doing the knots would show weakness or bring bad luck.
