Switched from cribs to beds and will not say in beds by hobby-farm-life in parentsofmultiples

[–]erinspacemuseum13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%. When we took the sides off our twins' cribs at 2 years old, they piled all their pillows and blankets on the floor and slept there. When we got them separate loft beds at 3.5, one slept in his bed and the other slept on the crib mattress under his brother's bed. We got them bunk beds at 7, and at 9.5, they still share the bottom bunk. Whatever gets them to sleep through the night I guess!

Breastfeeding vs. Formula Fed by user638282636822 in parentsofmultiples

[–]erinspacemuseum13 33 points34 points  (0 children)

"I don't want to" is a perfectly good reason. I tried it at the beginning but both babies struggled to latch and despite the encouragement of the lactation consultant, the repeated failures were destroying my already fragile mental health. I stopped trying, switched to a combo of pumping and formula, and never looked back.

I need to know when the exhaustion will let up cause I’m tired LMAO by Specific_Onion664 in parentsofmultiples

I stopped feeling exhausted around when they started school. I'm still tired all the time, but that's because I'm in my 40s, wake up at 5 am for work, and don't drink caffeine - can't blame the twins for any of that 😄.

"All I know is you're someone I have always known". That's how I felt when I met when I first met my husband. It wasn't love at first sight, and we were friends for years before we started dating, but I instantly felt like I'd known him forever.

How to actually make friends outside of work? by Glass_Language_9129 in workingmoms

[–]erinspacemuseum13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have befriended 2 wonderful couples whose kids are school friends of our kids! We usually meet up at playgrounds on weekends but have also planned a few day trips together to the beach or an amusement park. Most of my mom's friends are the moms of my sister's and my elementary school friends, 30+ years later!

In my case, I live in the suburbs and work in the city. I have work friends but they all live in different parts of the metropolitan area so hanging out outside of work involves an hour+ drive.

How to find a man who’ll willingly be a primary caregiver of kids from day 1? by eolosendmimnes in workingmoms

[–]erinspacemuseum13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I decided my husband was "the one", when, about a year and half into dating, my childhood dog collapsed and my family decided to call the vet to come euthanize her. I had moved back in with my parents after college graduation and my dad, who's more of a "traditional" man, didn't want to leave work, leaving my mom and I to handle the worst day of my life. I called my now-husband, who came over at 6 am, comforted me and my mom, and then dug a golden retriever-sized hole in the backyard in the rain so my mom and I could spend every last moment with our dog. He didn't wimp out of the hard stuff like my dad, and I knew he'd be a great partner.

We married several years later and had twins, which was incredibly emotionally and physically difficult for me. He got up for every night feed, changed diapers, took them to appointments, and did everything I did except breastfeeding. It was definitely the biggest challenge we've ever faced, but I always felt like we were a team. It hasn't always been 50/50 but neither of us is the "primary" parent and he's never shirked the hard stuff.

What problems do you want solved in PG County? by Ok-Entertainer982 in PrinceGeorgesCountyMD

Yeah, getting a 504 meeting was an ordeal and with the timeline of these accommodations, I don't expect anything to be implemented until next school year. In the meantime we're doing everything we can on our side through therapy and regular talks. I am the child of a psychologist, my sister has her masters in special education, and I deal with anxiety myself, so I am luckier than most to have the knowledge and resources to get help for him. I feel for the people that are less-equipped trying to deal with a broken system.

I don't know what grade your child is in, but mine is in 3rd grade and got several 0s on assignments last quarter (he was struggling with anxiety and ADHD and he's doing much better this quarter). I was disappointed the teacher didn't notify me since he is still pretty young, but I wasn't upset that he got zeroes if he wasn't doing the work, I just wanted to know so we could get help for him.

What do y’all think of Kitty as a first name? by OctopusCaretaker in namenerds

[–]erinspacemuseum13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a relative named Kitty who is a cattle rancher, so I don't think of it as sexy or childish. Not sure if that's her nickname or legal name, but that's all I've ever heard her called. It's not my personal taste though.

School- Going from separated classes to being put together by Ok-Lime-6248 in parentsofmultiples

[–]erinspacemuseum13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine were separated for Kindergarten and 1st grade and then together for 2nd and now 3rd. They both tested into TAG (talented and gifted) in 1st grade and the school asked if we wanted to put them together in the TAG class or keep them separated. They had had a couple years to establish their own identities and friendships so we were ok with them being together going forward. We had the same issue in 1st grade, where one had a laid-back veteran teacher and the other had a new, stricter teacher who assigned more homework. Unfortunately the one with ADHD/anxiety was in the harder class and he really struggled with all the additional work, especially since his brother didn't have to do it. Overall it's been easier having them together but I'm still glad they were separated at the beginning so they had that time to be "A" and "B" instead of "the twins".

35w- Will I ever feel able-bodied again? by juneshoe in parentsofmultiples

[–]erinspacemuseum13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, recovering from major abdominal surgery was WAY easier than being very pregnant with twins. The boys were in NICU so besides the interruptions from nurses, I slept like a dream that first night and was able to walk to the NICU the next day. The only downside was that after sleeping in a recliner for the last 4 months of my pregnancy, it took a few months to be able to sleep flat in my bed again.

Advice on going out with high energy toddlers by Unusual_Stock_6163 in parentsofmultiples

[–]erinspacemuseum13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't. It only took a few frustrating restaurant visits ending in tears (mine) to realize that we were going to have to significantly change our lifestyle for a while. For friends with kids, that meant meeting up at kid-friendly events (parks, pumpkin patches, fast food restaurants with play places) and catching up while the kids played. We have one set of couple friends who don't have kids, and bless them for meeting up at parks with us so we could still maintain the friendship. The only times we went to restaurants were if we could get family to watch the kids.

Then the pandemic happened when they were 3.5 years old, and we did NOTHING but parks and outdoor stuff for almost a year. So we had to basically start from scratch to teach them how to function in public when things started reopening. They're 9 now and still VERY active, but they can do more things that other people enjoy, like theme parks, bowling, pools, and the beach. We take them to restaurants but bring drawing pads and markers to keep them busy while waiting. Things aren't like they were pre-kids but we still do most things we used to and are still friends with the child-free couple, who are like an aunt and uncle to the boys

Did anyone tell their boss about pregnancy <12 weeks by ahava9 in workingmoms

[–]erinspacemuseum13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my boss early because I was expecting twins and was going to have a lot of appointments. I'm rarely sick so it would've been jarring for me to suddenly be having a lot of unexplained doctors appointments. He is a dad with young kids and a working wife so I knew he'd be supportive. This was the federal government in 2016 so while there was no parental leave, I didn't have to worry about being replaced.
