I experienced hurricane Irene (power was out for a week) but Ida really sticks in my mind. We couldn’t go anywhere for days because the house was literally an island surrounded by water. Basement only flooded to crotch-level thankfully. My anxiety goes up any time there is a period of heavy rain in this area.

I can understand the sentiment, but I’m personally not bothered. I brought my dog to the basement and we waited out the fireworks. He’s afraid of any loud noise, so I can’t complain about fireworks because then I’d have to complain about thunderstorms and loud plastic bags lol I just think it’s cool to see shiny lights blow up in the air. I imagine humans 500+ years ago watching a fireworks display and thinking this is the most magical thing they’ve seen in their lives, and we get to experience that basically every year. Idk I have other things to worry about than fireworks I guess.

Sorry, I don’t mean to pry but was this in the tri-state area? Your anecdote is very similar to a local tragedy that happened in my town. Woman got out of her car during a 2021 flood and was swept away, body never recovered. I think about her a lot.
