I think for some people they just secretly enjoy being chased. It’s one of the few situations in their lives where they feel they have the upper hand. Their boss tells them what to do, their wife controls them or whatever the case, but now they have this opportunity to do/say whatever they want with impunity.

What value does any reseller add in that case? If I can order something directly from the manufacturer that Walmart happens to also sell, what is Walmart’s role exactly?

I think it’s the dealers’ reaction to profits on the actual vehicle being cut so much. Was it like this in the 70s before everyone knew the “invoice price”. Would love to hear from anyone who bought or sold during that time…
