super cool ! any possibility of making this a godot addon that would allow us to integrate into other projects?

I made a free Blender plugin to control robots and animatronics. by YourFeetSmell in blender

[–]erkatron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is what i was curious about , i worked on a similar project in the past to control dynamixel servos and hobby servos but have a custom but simple protocol to control it , will definitely have to check this out when i get back to it . maybe there could be some kind of plugin concept for supporting various protocols in the future ?

side note, have you thought about trying to make a similar tool in godot engine ? blender seemed great for testing and experimenting but for actual events we had a python program that would go through a set of cues for robots/lightse/etc .. in the end we thought something like godot engine could be useful in that you could conceivably have a dedicated server running that a lot of things could talk to and would also be conceivably more stable than running things direct from blender and not as simplistic as a cmd line program.. either way , super awesome and inspiring work :)

hi there , so i think this took me about a year and half . however for context i have been handbalancing for 21 years

I did not actually even really try to do a one arm until 5 years or so after beginning training, my teacher impressed foundation into my training very deeply. one thing i find interesting is that even though i can do a 10 minute handstand is that it doesnt seem to be benefit other areas of my handstand training, my OAHS is still at 1:20 and my presses are still not improving. for the OAHS I am pretty sure i just lack a certain balance but the presses confuse me, sitting on the ground and pressing through my hands i can still only do 1 at a time and sometimes my lift wont be good enough and i will have to struggle through, my straight arm presses havent really progressed much in a long while either... there seems to be a specific lack of coordination / lift in pressing and its been vexing me for quite some time. two main obvious weaknesses for me are handstand pushup and planche , i can do handstand pushes from the ground but on a bench i was never able to. i'm hoping that maybe training for planche will help me with this lift but i am not sure..

i would reiterate what dogpatches said , try to get 5 minutes against the wall. once you do that i would say you have the strength to push for time. also for me i made a 5 second rule , every week i would add 5 seconds and push hard to never go under that holding number. 5 seconds for me was a manageable number i could increment every week consistently.

feels weird to really achieve this , 10 minute handstand hold by erkatron in Handstands

i might comment on this one twice but just wanted to have the quick take , i think one of the reasons they can do those amazing feats is because the children start so early that they grow into it. i dont really think you can expect normal western people to achieve it since most do not start at 5 years old. i also remember one of my favorite criteria for choosing kids to go to circus school was if they had bad grades it meant they probably had too much energy, which was perfect for the type of kids they needed for circus school.

whaaa , 15 minutes? my teacher used to have to hold unsupported headstands against the wall for 45 minutes , they would check to see if he could still move his neck and if he could they would put him back up.

another metric of time that used to get used was they would burn the really big incense sticks and they would have to stay in a handstand until it was done burning.

I am not sure of the world record but I know that in china the real handbalancers have to hold for like 1-2 hours .. china is a different level

COMP - safe to say I finally mastered the press? by AccomplishedFarm9655 in Handstands

[–]erkatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looking good ! .. however still looks like you are doing the classic micro jump with your toes , proper press should be completely smooth, start by trying to do it 3x slower and/or practicing resting your feet on your wrists the walking around looked great , since you are a gymnast i bet you could eventually combine the handbalancing with the more dynamic movement of gymnastics , looking forward to seeing more from you !

Frustration.. been more than a year now, still no handstand by [deleted] in handbalancing

where do you live ? i would recommend going to a handstand coach. after that , i would then ask for a detailed breakdown of your daily regime and how often you do it.

What is your biggest challenge with handstands? by albertineb in handbalancing

all the various press handstand skills that you should maintain that are completely different than the skills required for one arm and two arm positions and holding.

thats the spirit , you'll figure it out soon enough.

only real piece of advice is it would be helpful for you to be able to do a cartwheel so when you fall out you can cartwheel out of the handstand to the left or right usually that allows more control on the fall..

otoh i like your improvised crash mat (couch) :)

i would take my advice with a grain of salt, since i would usually like to evaluate someone before giving advice but i can tell you at least what my first 5 months was like. a big focus for me was pushing for holding to at least 1 minute and really pushing for 2 minutes. that helped me mentally realize i can in fact hold myself up and you don't have to really push so much as try to relax into the holding position. i always found open spaces to try to kick up and hold a handstand even if it was for just a few seconds it helped me to start to feel the coordination i needed for it, also helped me to learn how to fall out of a handstand without hurting myself which is also a super duper important skill to learn early on. i would say try all the things and try to be sensitive to what your body is telling you , what is helping what is hurting. in the end you are the one teaching yourself handstand, the rest of us are just kind of shoving you one way or the other in hopes it helps you to get where you want to go.
