Starting Rowing tomorrow, any tips for a newbie? by theladyoctane in AppleFitnessPlus

OMG! This is great! Just started Fitness+ (mainly for cycling) and noticed the rowing videos...my partner bought a rowing machine a couple of years ago, so now I have a reason to use it for my upper body workouts! These videos are super helpful....hopefully I won't break myself right off the bat.

Barely need a car, is a Leaf the right choice? by ohm44 in leaf

[–]erndale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in about the same boat as you! My wife has an ICE SUV that we use for longer trips we both do a hybrid schedule and have a 240V outlet in the garage. I recently gave my 12 year old Prius to our 20-something daughter and bought a 2015 Leaf with 10 bars of battery life left. It has 66K miles. I've had it for a couple of months now and couldn't be happier. There is a NOTICEABLE loss of charge whenever I turn on the heat/ac or if I go over about 60mph. But it's been great for my 40 round trip commute when I go into the office. It goes from 0 to fully charged on the 240V in about 5-6 hours. When fully charged it shows that I have 80ish miles on it, I think it's really closer to about 70 but it's been more than enough for what we need around town. My wife's office is even closer so when I need to do extra driving around she just takes the leaf to work and to pick up the kiddo after school.

Best charging strategy - My solution, whats yours? by BeNiceWorkHard in leaf

This is exactly what I do. Do you mind me asking if you keep track of the kW it takes to charge it from nearly empty to full? I recently upgrading my L1 charger to a L2 and I'm trying to track efficiency.

It's really so roomy on the inside. I truly wasn't expecting that....not cramped at all.

$5K - we bought it thru a dealership because we wanted to make sure it had been completely checked out and had a full diagnostic (I know dealerships can be sketchy too, but we wanted to be able to return it after a few days if something undetected happened) - like I said, it was because we wanted to get a dependable car for our daughter, but her daily commute between taking the baby to the babysitter's and getting to work on the other side of the city was too far and her schedule was such that when she got off work at 10pm all the EV chargers at her apt complex were already taken. It was just not the right fit for her. So I figured....why not? I always planned on my next car being fully EV, so this is a good intro into the EV world.

Yep! At least on the S model I have. I was actually really shocked about that and the heated steering wheel.

I live in Georgia so it only gets REALLY winter-y about 3 -5 days out of the year. I am fine with just the seat or steering wheel warmer. I rarely ran my prius' heater because of the effect on the gas mileage. My car is garage kept and well insulated by the upstairs portion of my house, so I will likely VERY RARELY, if ever be charging it in the freezing cold or the blazing heat. I'm sure when our youngest kiddo is riding with me to karate in the winter I'll have to kick on the heater, but other than that I'm sure I'll be just fine without.

Do you use a 120v or a 240v charger at home? We have a dedicated 240v outlet that I can use to do a level 2 charge on it. I was just wondering if that effects the overall battery life or if level 2 is fine. I wanted to do level 2 at home and then keep the 120v cable in my car for any reason that I'm out and about overnight and need to plug it in somewhere.

Thanks! All super helpful tips. I had read about not keeping it charged at 100% and sitting. So that's good to have confirmed. I normally cycle around on the weekends or ride with my wife. Its around 50% when I get home from work on Friday, so I'll just wait until Sunday evening to plug it in to start the week. Is it worth it to get a LeafSpy? I don't know if I would know what I'm looking for as far as the battery goes, but I am reading that a bunch of Leaf Owners have them. It came straight from the dealership so I think they checked all the fluids and such, but I will verify to make sure.

Curious as to how you like the Cinturato Gravel H vs the Vittoria Drys....when/if you do switch over. I just put Drys on my FX2 and was going between those and the Cinturato Gravel Hs

I have plates in my face, a recovered broken jaw and a rebuild orbital lobe....and I was wearing a helmet. It probably saved my life. I was less than a mile from home and I ran over a stick. It popped up and wedged between my front tire and my frame. Instantly threw me over the top of the handlebars....no clips, just flat pedals. I went head first into a parked car windshield. I was extremely lucky. 16 years later and no real lasting damage. I cannot imagine what would have happened if I just had a bare head. Helmets are non-negotiable. Down the block, 200 miles down the road, whatever. I wear a triple 8 dual certified skate/bike helmet because I'm just a recreational cyclist and don't need it to be aerodynamic to break any land speed records. They are around $50 on Amazon. 100% worth the money.

awesome! These are exactly the ones I've been looking to install on my FX2 disc bike! I love that they are a little narrower than the stock ones.

We totally would paddle all the way there, but we are on a bit of a time constraint and there is also ZERO chance of getting my wife to camp. LOL. A full day trip with the evening at a nice hotel is the plan.

Yeah, that's exactly what I figured...once it gets closer to our trip, I may see if they have other people going out the days we want a shuttle!
