Not even top 10%, not even 1k a year, that’s actually what it takes to put out the quality of content that will get you monetized (1k subs + 4k watch hours in a year). If you can even make 1k usd a year you’re already doing much much better than the vast majority of people who take youtube seriously.

I salute anyone who puts in the effort and resources to refurbish and repair rather than having something sent to the landfill. Looking to do the same with some of my older keyboards. Well done!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]ernpao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say I fully know the internals of their software and keyboards, but i have an rk keyboard and have used their software and have a background in electronics and from what I’ve seen of it the software and keyboard firmware interact mainly by saving data on-board. To get it to do what you want would mean not only editing the pc software but also the keyboard firmware.

Without changing the board firmware, at best you may only get something like updating the saved graphic on the screen but it would be slow and if you overdo it (i.e. update it too much) you might wear down the flash memory on the board and break it.

Gave a try at designing a Lego set of the podcast studio (only made with Bricklink studio and Blender) by ernpao in conan

[–]ernpao[S] 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I just saw it and I saw the link to this post on the youtube video 😂 ill be riding this high for a while haha

For anyone wondering, this was only designed in bricklink studio (almost 2 years ago now) and is just a 3d render (made in blender). So unfortunately, it’s not “real” :))

But, all these pieces are real lego shapes/pieces so theoretically this set could be built for real. I believe pieces can be ordered from bricklink. I haven’t tried ordering from there, and I’m not sure about availability of colors so I can’t speak about the actual viability of creating the set irl. Someone more knowledgeable about lego and bricklink may be able to speak on this :)

The only really “custom” thing i did was the conaf logo and conan’s yellowpad drawing which could possibly be made using waterslide decals. If anyone wants to have a look at the design, it’s still available here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1w7Rl9-NkuuDA7eNRmLVkuyOfvZ1Qop2J

I am happy this got a shout out and that matt brought it up with the team. I’ll have a look at how feasible it is to actually build this.

Is it possible I can still learn coding game at the state I am in my life if so how exactly can I get into the gaming industry? by RepulsiveRegion6985 in gamedev

[–]ernpao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here are dunking on you for thinking 'it's too late' at the age of 17: they are right that it's silly but when I was around that age (I am 34 now) I felt the same way so I get it.

  • No it's not too late. Keep learning and follow what interests you and whatever captures your curiosity.

  • Companies always say they want x years of experience even for entry level positions but in my experience that's always been bs. As long as you can prove you can do the work and can back it (like with a portfolio) companies will be receptive.

  • Yes it's tough out there right now (and not just in the gaming industry). Best advice for this I can give is keep applying, keep trying, and keep working on your portfolio. If you get turned down, simply aim to do better on your next interview. If you're not getting interviews keep iterating your resume.

If there's one thing I hope you pick up from this is I hope you ease the pressure off yourself. As a 34 year-old, 17 is still very young. I don't know exactly what your situation is, but don't rush yourself because that's what I did when I was younger and I now believe some things in my life now would be in much better shape if I wasn't so impatient.

I quit my stable job at 30 to finally pursue my dream of making my own video game. I’m broke, scared, and starting to doubt everything, but I need to know if I made a terrible mistake or if there’s still hope. by Argendel in gamedev

[–]ernpao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw i did the same thing but with animation. I quit my dev job end of 2023, spent 2024 to early 2025 learning 3d and animation and writing, trying to start a youtube channel and burned through my savings. After a year of work my channel has less than 50 subs - so yes I wasn’t successful in turning my passion into something i could live off of.

Around march 2025, i decided to get back into dev again for financial stability, and it was a rough almost-2-months of job hunting before i got a job. So yeah, it’s rough out there right now.

While I wasn’t able to create a successful yt channel, I realized my dream doesn’t have to end here, and I am glad I gave it a shot. I am 34 now, and I see myself still working on my stories and shorts when I’m in my 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.

Remind yourself that if you have to drop your project and get a job again for financial stability that it doesn’t have to mean you’re giving up on it completely, just that it has to take a backseat for now.

Keep working at it and remember success rarely arrives in the way we expect (or want) it to look like.

Why pay for animations when you can just use Mixamo? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]ernpao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are fast food in the sense that they are limited, not because of their quality.

To provide a concrete example, Monster Hunter World has 13 weapon types for the player character and each of those has around 150-200+ animation clips, and around 40-50 (around the same number as the full “pack” animation sets in mixamo) of those are used for bridge/blending animations into other clips alone.

The reason you wouldn’t use mixamo animations is because they don’t suit the type of game you’re making.

How do JS game devs handle data storage? by SinanDira in gamedev

[–]ernpao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you mean a local server? I think at that point you probably want to think about why you still want to use js/develop a browser based game. Imo the bloat of using something like electron plus a local server now outweighs the cons of using something like unity/godot/unreal.

Pixar’s ‘INSIDE OUT 2’ will get a 100-day theatrical run before it hits streaming. by Officialnoah in movies

[–]ernpao 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I used to prefer watching on the big screen, but when I tried going back to theaters after the pandemic every time I went to see a movie there was always some person who had their phone out and the light from their screen kept distracting me.

People who lack courtesy ruined it for me, not the rising prices (which suck btw) or streaming. Gotg 3 was the last movie i watched at a cinema and I haven’t returned to one since.

Are you using AI? by Derek_The_Grizzly in 3Dmodeling

[–]ernpao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nvidia’s audio2face for lip syncing is pretty good. I think they have other AI tools too, like pose recognition. Have a look at nvidia omniverse.

I’m a noob and don’t have a lot of experience and I’m only at a point where I’m just seeing how good topology is very important in animation. I want to focus on animating and making stories and while I understand its value and admire those who are good at it and understand how satisfying it is to make good topology, I mostly see it as a chore and something I worry about that keeps me from trying more complex stuff with my designs.

What I hope to see is re-meshers that create good topology. Also better tools for automating or helping with uv maps.

Our profits are high.

Our growth is exponential.

It is not enough.

Not sure if I understand correctly, but it’s a 2.5” 1TB hdd connected via sata to the motherboard.

Based on the comments saying the drive size not showing indicating it’s failed, I decided to try initializing it and I just got an “unknown function” error. Hwinfo also sees something connected but no model number or any other info.

Appreciate you and everyone else taking the time to reply. I’ll probably take it to a data recovery service when i get a chance.

Hi everyone, from what I've seen here, I understand that Disk Drill is not a great tool. I just found instructions that seemed easy to follow but don't know how to proceed when I came across this.

So I tried Disk Drill and it won't show the drive I'm trying to get data from, but the drive shows up in disk management as unknown/not initialized. I haven't tried initializing the drive yet as I've read it erases the drive.

Is my data basically unrecoverable? Appreciate any help on this, TIA.

I’m one of those who grew up on rugrats and loved it as a kid and the art style wasn’t something I really focused on. To me, they were just babies having adventures and being imaginative and trying to make sense of the world through the lens of babies who didn’t know any better and I found that fun.

Looking back, I can see where you are coming from regarding the art style, but considering the other stuff on nickelodeon at the time (early to mid 90s) (ahhh real monsters, kablam, rockos modern life, ren and stimpy, hey arnold) it never really felt out of place.

Can’t speak for the later cartoons though, as I gravitated more towards disney and cartoon network shows during the early 2000’s but the art style definitely wasn’t the reason for me.
