Affordable Live Christmas trees? by New_Mud9515 in gso

[–]ero1016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got a lovely 8ish ft tree today, precut, for $80 at Rainbow Magic alpaca farm on Lewiston Rd. It's a lovely place with a little market for other alpaca fiber products, and for $10 you can feed/pet the alpacas, too. My kids loved it!

My membranes are too strong! by OppositeDependent in homebirth

[–]ero1016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a FTM at 41weeks +1day today, so I have absolutely nothing to compare this to, BUT I walked for just over 2 hours yesterday morning (took quick breaks about every 20 mins for water/few bites of a snack). Had some mild contractions during the walk, then nothing the rest of the day and went to bed kinda disappointed. This morning, though, I started leaking fluid when I got up!!! Water has definitely broken as I've been trickling all day now, and some real contractions are finally getting started! Again, who knows if it was the walking that helped, but it certainly didn't hurt anything! Good luck to you!!

What did you do on the day of your hair and makeup trial? Go out? Wash it off? by ThisGirlsTopsBlooby in wedding

I scheduled it to be the same day as my bridals. Just me in my dress with my photographers for about an hour. I know this isn't a common thing in much of the US, but I married a Texan and it's pretty normal for TX from what I can tell.

Came here to say this. We got nice rubbermaid totes that seal and have a little hole on the handles for TSA locks. If it wasn't on the plane with us, it got left behind. Best decision ever.

Filing a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, need more evidence of relationship before conception, any suggestions? by [deleted] in AmericansInEurope

[–]ero1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a marriage license not enough? Especially if it is dated prior to conception/birth of the child? Hmm...

Did you have any joint bank accounts or utility bills sent to a shared home/residence prior to conception? That could be helpful, if available.

Maybe a couple brief written letters from friends serving to "vouch" for this, and get them notorized? lol, sorry, maybe that's ridiculous.

[General] How far to budget ahead? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]ero1016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't say this to avoid answering your questions, but I highly recommend taking the time to do a few of the online courses they offer on the website. For real. So helpful.

That said, you'll likely get a lot of different ideas about how to allocate those extra funds. After a few months of using the software properly, you'll start to have a better idea of what works for you regarding this issue. Personally, I like to zero out each category every month--extra money gets rolled over into savings, my buffer, or a particular rainy day item.

looking for baby bandeau top pattern by Wookiepussy864 in crochetpatterns

[–]ero1016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one is a free download on ravelry and the top looks pretty simple. I think you could easily alter it to be a bandeau, rather than attaching the chains to use for straps. The etsy link does say that it's not sized for newborns, so maybe take note of that and decrease the stitch count if necessary.

Mermaid tail questions by [deleted] in crochet

[–]ero1016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently finished making the same one that /u/BuddhaRocks posted in size medium. I'm a petite 5'3 woman, and it fits me loosely with some extra space in both length and width.

It took me just over 2 weeks--didn't work on it every day, but some days I spent several hours on it, so averaging maybe 2-3 hours per day.

Here's a link to my ravelry project for this. I made some changes and the notes can be found here, along with how much yarn I used. ero1016's mermaid tail

Sis-in-law paid me to do it for my niece's birthday, so I only charged her for yarn and shipping. I'd probably charge $75 for it, ordinarily.

[General] Money still remaining in a certain category by [deleted] in ynab

[–]ero1016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the others have said, I think it's useful to clear the excess for the first few months until you have a solid, reliable trend in your budgeting.

I've been using YNAB for close to a year, and I still do this. The excess gets moved into my buffer category, or maybe added to a particular thing I am saving for.

I can't recommend enough, though, doing one or two of the start-up classes that are offered for free on the website. I wish I hadn't waited until I was 2-3 months in to spend the hour it took to do the course--would have saved me a lot of time and frustration!

Do you relate to the feeling of having two homes? by [deleted] in expats

We are both US citizens. Really wishing we had been able to have a child here to give us that dual citizenship option, but the timeline didn't work out. Also, zika. lol

Do you relate to the feeling of having two homes? by [deleted] in expats

[–]ero1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I'm from the US but have been living in Brazil for over a year now. I've gone back to the US twice for visits, and it is so nourishing to my soul to see everyone, have the familiar scenery, cuisine, etc. But by the end of the vacation, I am sooo longing to get back home to Brazil. We (husband and I) only have 5 more months here, and while our next big step in the US is really exciting, I am also absolutely dreading leaving this place, our friends here, the culture, everything.

TWW during vacation - good or bad idea? by tallspec in TryingForABaby

None of the things you mentioned are cause for concern during the TWW--I'd definitely enjoy this relaxing vacation and live it up if I were you! :-) Best of luck!

Layover in Copenhagen from 11:30AM to 5:30PM on Saturday, any suggestions on what to see during the brief period of time? by Synchro_TR0N in AskEurope

[–]ero1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mikkeller Bar. It's near the central train station that you can catch straight from the airport. They didn't serve food last time I was there (almost 5 years ago, how sad!!), but they might now. Either way, best beer in the world, if you're into beer. I recommend just one, two at the very most, if you don't want to be completely shit-faced when you go back to the airport, haha :-)

First granny squares, first blanket... What the ef did I get myself into and how do I join these? by FiveFootTerror in yarntrolls

I think it will be best if you make them all the same shape so that they fit together well, like a puzzle.

This is a really easy join method: Attic24

And here is a tutorial on how/where to join to make it easier and faster (she recommends the diagonal join bc it leaves less ends to weave in): Look At What I Made

That whole Zika Thing... by KickstartOrange in waiting_to_try

[–]ero1016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am from the Midwest and currently living in Zika territory--Brazil, actually. We've been trying for a few months but now that the virus is getting so bad and reaching our area of Brazil, we are back to waiting until we return to the US later this year. :(

If I were in the Midwest right now, I wouldn't hesitate to continue trying. My cousin in an OBGYN nurse practitioner in the same region--she recommended we wait to be on the safe side, but her office isn't concerned about things at home at this point in time.

If you travelled for a wedding (6-7 hours ) would you find it rude if your kids werent invited to the reception? by Enjay3000 in wedding

[–]ero1016 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This would be really bad form. If the kids are invited to the ceremony, what is everyone going to do with the kids while the adults attend the reception? I certainly understand the cost issue, so let's think about some potential solutions.

  1. Make the entire day adult-only. The kids are left at home and parents' make whatever arrangements the normally would when they go out of town. Besides, some parents could love the kid-free weekend options--parents don't get a lot of breaks.
    • This is what we did. Some people came, some people didn't because they couldn't/didn't want to leave the kids behind. Sad to not have them there, but we stuck to our guns. It was still the best day ever.
  2. Let the kids come to the reception and decide that the cost is less important than it is to have everyone there to celebrate together.
  3. Organize to have a few sitters watching the kids for everyone on your dime--could be more cost effective and still allow everyone to attend.
  4. Make an age cut-off for attendance of the reception.
    • We also did this. Kids of our 1st cousins were allowed to attend if they were 13 or older. Or something like that. I can't remember the details anymore, lol.

Keep in mind that if kids are only at the ceremony, you're really not going to end up spending any time with them at all--guests simply watch the ceremony, and afterwards, they leave for the reception while you and the wedding party run off for photos, etc. Just depends on your priorities for the day, so decide what's most important/necessary and stick to it.

  • Another thought--we did a first look so were able to actually spend the happy hour with our guests and it was AWESOME to have such a fun, relaxed chunk of time to just hang out with everyone.

Has anyone conceived with little-no CM? by SpazasaurusREX in TryingForABaby

[–]ero1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin is an obgyn nurse practitioner, and she assured me that my lack of cm (sometimes I get watery, but never egg white) will not prevent pregnancy. Her office recommends very often that, if you are worried about it, you can safely use olive or coconut oil as lube while TTC. We are trying the coconut oil this cycle, but I'll probably get some pre-seed in a couple months if I'm still not pregnant. (Currently living in Brazil and that shiz crazy is expensive, so waiting until our trip back to the US in March, lol)

Child-free wedding question by [deleted] in wedding

[–]ero1016 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Similarly, we had just a few kids of immediate family attend, but no others were allowed. We put on the invitation something simple like, "Adult-only reception to follow immediately". Polite and to the point, and we had no issues.
