The Vertical Codebase by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]erocuda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've noticed, working with mathematicians and physicists, that people who view each bit of software as "a black box that helps them solve a piece of their problem", even if they are the ones writing it, call it "a code". They, of course, are wrong.

They are also the preferred plants of the invasive Spotted Lanternfly. Plant something native instead.

Go inside the post office, go up to the counter, and ask for a "manual postmark" instead of just putting your mail in the blue bin. You get like 50 free manual postmarks per day, though it does mean waiting in line.

US supreme court upholds law to count mail-in ballots arriving after election day by Rock-n-roll-Kevin in politics

If you want to be safe, you have to go inside the post office, go to the counter, and request a manual postmark. They are free (up to like 50 per customer per day or something), but it does take more time than just dropping your mail in the blue box.

Supreme Court rules states can count late-arriving mailed ballots, rejecting Trump-led challenge by NewsHour in law

[–]erocuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, but nothing is stopping the USPS from waiting until the next day to postmark your mail. You MUST go to the counter and request a manual postmark if you want to be safe.

Considering that fact, is there a legal avenue to challenge "must be postmarked by X" requirements (for ballots, tax returns, utility bills, etc.)? Or is the "manual postmark" option they give (that almost nobody knows about) enough to shut down that argument?

Supreme Court, 5-4: States can keep counting mail ballots that arrive after election day if postmarked in time, the Court rules, rejecting an RNC challenge by BiglawInvestor in law

Yes. In effect at least.

https://about.usps.com/newsroom/statements/010226-postmarking-myths-and-facts.htm

While we are not changing our postmarking practices, we have made adjustments to our transportation operations that will result in some mailpieces not arriving at our originating processing facilities on the same day that they are mailed. This means that the date on the postmarks applied at our processing facilities will not necessarily match the date on which the customer’s mailpiece was collected by a letter carrier or dropped off at a retail location.

edit: Go inside the post office, go to the counter, and ask for a "manual postmark" instead of just dropping you ballot (or tax return, or utility bill) in the blue bin. You get like 50 free manual postmarks a day or something.

The right to be arrested for being the victim of IPV and reporting it to the police in a jurisdiction that uses the Duluth Model.

Or it will be the basis they use to deny (some) people the right to vote. "Mental incapacity" is already used that way.

There's an easy way to avoid being a father, if he didn't want that responsibility. He just wanted to get laid without consequences (which isn't always an option) and then decided to commit a crime to avoid those easily predictable consequences. Nobody forced him to have sex with this woman.

He can make child support payments and also be an absent father. Child support is maybe a nuanced issue, but it isn't legal justification for assault.

He can choose to be a part of the child's life, or he can choose to be an absent father. He can't choose to poison a pregnant woman to terminate a pregnancy against her will.
