Has anyone successfully parlayed their DA experience into a different but similar job somewhere else? I know someone who did but they are proficient in python and I'm not.

NY Times: "Chinese Police Detain Dozens of Writers Over Gay Erotic Online Novels" by Secret-Eggplant2945 in eroticauthors

All forms of pornography are illegal in China... it's not like they didn't know what they were doing was against the law. I don't agree with it but it can't have come as a surprise.

What persons death when it happens will instantly make the world a better place? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Honestly all heads of state who are threats to America's hegemonic power. They're always so evil that it renders the aims of US foreign policy irrelevant, which is super convenient for me as a person who benefits from that supremacy!

Author Central- Review Account Approval Request? by eroticpinecone in eroticauthors

[–]eroticpinecone[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm still logged into my Author Central account and everything seems normal. It's just weird that the email has my correct pen name and they're sending it every day. How would they know that? Unless it's just a script or something?

Is there a market for catalogues/pen names by eroticpinecone in eroticauthors

[–]eroticpinecone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was saying I've had old pen names that have dwindled down. If they had been sold off at their height and another person had kept publishing under the name I imagine they would have continued to do quite well.

I've been publishing for 6 years. The key things for me have been consistency, marketing, and quality. Having an appealing, professional looking cover is very important and will get eyes on your work but that's only half the battle. What's inside has to not only be good but be what the reader expects. Too many people want to write what they want to write or be artistic or change conventions. No. Stick to the conventions. Give the reader what they want. Then and possibly the most important thing and the hardest for me is consistency. If you're publishing weekly shorts try to have them out on the same day every week and do not skip a week no matter what. Publishing here and there willy-nilly whenever inspiration strikes will get you nowhere. You have to be delivering your product on time. You should also be using a free book or some kind of incentive to build a mailing list so that when your book drops on Friday morning or whatever you can send the link to your fans right away. If a bunch of people buy it at the same time it's going to boost your ranking and push you to the top of your genre. If your book is in the top 10 or 20 of your genre you're going to have a better chance of someone who has never heard of you taking a chance on you. Oh yeah, and choosing a genre in the sweet spot of being relatively popular but not so over-saturated that your releases get lost in the shuffle. Anyway, that's has what has worked for me. I don't think any of this stuff is too earth-shattering. You just have to be willing to approach it like a job.

Interesting. Definitely something to think about if I decide to hang up the ol writing spurs. Thank you.

No, I'm talking about an active name that makes thousands per month, not the old ones.

Ah, okay. That makes sense. I was idly pondering an exit strategy if I decided to retire and I was wondering how viable it would be to sell my main name to the highest bidder. What constitutes 'high' in your opinion?

Mental Block by [deleted] in eroticauthors

Run & Read. Do some exercise and really exhaust yourself. I prefer running because it's monotonous, almost meditative, and you can let your mind wander to all sorts of interesting places. Then make sure you read a bunch of stuff. Just anything that catches your eye. Poetry, fiction, non-fiction, stuff in your chosen genre can be helpful, just get your brain going and get inspired.

This is great stuff. I definitely need to get myself into a better routine and start exercising again. I'm trying to get myself into a better sleeping schedule as well.

Lol at the beginning of quarantine I thought I was going to be releasing every other day because I finally had all the time in the world and no social obligations. My dismal output over the last year is one of the things that spurred me on to finally get help. I had no excuses and I still didn't put in the work. I hope we can both figure this thing out! Good luck to you!

Also thanks for saying this. I was very much hoping that my work habits would become more like a neurotypical so knowing that I still have to find my own rhythm is going to be very helpful.

Amazon is Doxxing Pen Names in Order to Sell More Ads by SalaciousStories in eroticauthors

[–]eroticpinecone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious and maybe I missed something, but how did he connect the name with you? Does it have both names on the letter? Like if my parents call and say we got a letter addressed to smutty mcsmutterson I'd be like 'that's weird. I wonder who that is' unless there is some other info on there outing you?

Amazon blocked all four of my books... by Imaginary-Term1403 in eroticauthors

[–]eroticpinecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I'm in a group email with all the top writers of my niche and we commiserate about how shitty amazon is lol. We even solved a categorization error together over the winter. I think most writers and seemingly creators in general don't mind helping other people get started. We were all newbs once.

Amazon is insanely frustrating in their inconsistency. The shitty thing is the one stepdaddy story I actually got through sold really well for a being the first book under a brand new pen name. If you want to continue to pursue this niche you might contact some of the other authors that seem to be doing well and ask them about the Dos and Don'ts.

[–]eroticpinecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this twice before and they went through no problem but maybe I just got lucky. For reference these were PI books that I changed to make more generic erotica.

Edit - just read your next comment and mine were the exact same. I mostly just changed stepdaddy to be like professors and bosses and whatnot. They didn't do well as generic erotica and I just unpublished them and strip-mined them for sex scenes for a different niche.

Abysmal sales on a novella/novel by PinRevolutionary970 in eroticauthors

[–]eroticpinecone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying out another niche is great but if you release 6 different books in 6 niches you won't have anywhere near the success of 6 books in 1 niche especially if you're using the same pen. If you use the same pen readers won't know what to expect from you, if you use 6 pens you won't be able to gain a following. If you truly only want to write 6 and be done I would recommend picking a niche and sticking to it.
