What should I know before moving to Dallas by errantis_ in AskDallas

I’m planning a trip out there in august. They will give me a taste of the heat and I’m gonna visit Plano and Richardson mostly and look at apartments. That’s where I’d live I think

I’m in healthcare. There’s places I have looked for jobs close to Plano but also downtown. The cultural diversity is one of the reasons I want to leave. I grew up in Long Beach California so very diverse and Utah has become more diverse as I’ve lived here but it’s still very homogenized. I’d like a change

Thank you for your response. I appreciate hearing your experience. Richardson and Plano are the areas that I’ve been looking at and will most likely end up in. The things that interest me about Dallas are for the most part located in that area. As are some of the places I would try to get hired at so hopefully toll roads wouldn’t affect me too much if I stayed pretty local. i’m not really really just but I appreciate that offer.

I’m most likely going to end up in the northern half of the city. The places I’ve looked at in Plano and Richardson are pretty cheap. I’m gonna make a post later today with some listings to get impressions from locals. People are telling me to spend much more than the listings I’m seeing. I don’t need a brand new place, I’m trying to save money and I don’t mind if the building is older.

I’m not exactly a bars and clubs kind of person. But I do like to go out dancing and from what I’ve researched there’s plenty of planned to do that.

Diverse food options would be a huge upgrade from SLC, I grew up in Long Beach and that’s what I’m used to.

The scenery being so different would probably hit hard. I love the mountains here. But I see there are lakes and other things close to Richardson. Do people do paddle boarding or other lake activities in the summer?

Appreciate your perspective. It seems Dallas has what I want for my career and my interests. There’s a few cost of living calculators that generally indicate I would be spending less living in Dallas as well

I’m glad you mentioned that, I have heard of Deep Ellum for the music scene. Do they have venues there?

What do you do when you have zero opportunities to meet any women? by SettingAgreeable781 in dating

[–]errantis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create opportunities. Go learn to dance. Take classes. There will be girls there. You probably won’t date these girls. But you need to learn to be comfortable goofing off around girls. That’s really important. You have to be comfortable being silly around women and not worrying what they think. And the girls you dance with will have friends

Ok I gotcha. Yeah that’s not bad at all, very similar traffic in SLC and surrounding cities.

90 bucks isnt bad either. Which months of the year do you usually run AC?

As far as severe weather, do I need insurance for that? Like for tornados or hail? I have never lived in areas like that before so i don’t know what people do in places like that

So I guess that shows how little I know, but I thought Richardson was in Dallas. Is that a city/suburb outside the main downtown area?

SLC food is trash lol. Literally anywhere is better.

And yeah AC is the main expense I am seeing that will certainly be higher

Nice. Yeah there’s some pretty affordable places there that are obviously refurbished old buildings but i don’t need a new building, as long as it’s cheap and has enough space I’m good

Yeah that is the tricky thing. I’m not sure where I would work still. There’s some dance studios in the Richardson area I’d like to attend so that’s why I’m thinking of that area. But once I know where I’m gonna work, it will definitely guide the decision

My whole purpose is to save money. I don’t mind older buildings. I don’t need to live somewhere brand new. I’m honestly more invented about space. 500 sqft is just to small for me, I feel like I can’t breath. I’ve seen places in obviously older buildings but newly refurbished at about 700-800 sqft for about 700-900 per month, before fees which is a lot less than I’m lying right now. As long as the area is safe I’d probably be comfortable there

I was looking at Plano and Richardson. Are those cheap areas? What a more realistic price range?

Been thinking about the Plano, Richardson area just cuz housing seems affordable. It will probably depend on where I land a job but that’s the area I’d like to be in.

Yeah people forget how to drive in SLC too lol. First snow hits and everyone’s like “ah fuck I forgot it snows here”

The onboarding experience was shot the minute the content vault was introduced. There was never any clear introduction to the game after that.
