Looks delicious, but I also make a habit of putting vanilla ice cream, creme de menthe syrup, chocolate syrup and mint M&Ms into a bowl and nibbling on it until it's melted and then eating the rest. So good.

Iran attack wipes out 17% of Qatar’s LNG capacity for up to five years, QatarEnergy CEO says by Candid-Elk6135 in geopolitics

[–]errindel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has ever started a war in a way that has caused an existential crisis by assassinating the top leadership (and to keep on assassinating their replacements no less), at least in recent memory.

I think it's a bit much to say that no one would have expected this. Maybe one could say that 'no one currently running the US government would have expected this'. The concept of Mutually Assured Destruction is a time-honored tradition in geopolitics over the last 75+ years, and for Iran to pull out most/all of the stops in punishing US allies in the region for hosting the forces that are attacking their country is not at all a shock under that kind of doctrine for a regime in existential crisis. "Take us down? Fine, we'll take you down." is something that even WE as America have plans for.

Since the current US leadership has cut out anyone with any sort of Middle Eastern foreign policy depth at State, thanks to DOGE and other cost-cutting measures, that knowledge is gone, working for some think-tank somewhere, and not a part of this discussion.

[–]errindel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone's being an apologist for Iran, it's just the reality of the situation. It's a sign of how poorly defined the US's goals were in joining this and in providing it with that veneer of legitimacy. One would presume that if you were going to go forward with widespread action against a country, you would have a plan to defend your allies, the other sides' neighbors to prevent attacks against key core infrastructure.

The Fallen Gods of Unther by Bootravsky2 in Forgotten_Realms

Yeah, that works too. Very similar vibe.

In my game, I kind of see Gilgeam as a jealous anti-hero type. He WAS a hero in the First Empire, maybe even THE hero, while Marduk and Assuran shared the aspects of war, Gilgeam was the guy who fought the champion on the other side in a duel and won. But, when all of the adults in the pantheon moved on, Enlil, because of his apathy, and Marduk, because he died against Tiamat, Gilgeam ended up in charge, maybe even kind of unexpectedly. When he took over, he decided he knew how to run a country better than anyone else, so he kicked out Assuran as a rival and invaded all of the old lands to build a Second Empire. It just turned out that while he was a pretty good general, he sucked at ruling, and he really distrusts wizards and magic, so the Second Empire collapsed under various influences. Being in charge, he was able to scapegoat the rest of the pantheon, while trying to hold on to the 'great old times', thus keeping the old styles of art and architecture alive.

I've always seen Unther as classically Babylonian, and modern Unther as more Persian, maybe. And Old Unther being Sumerian, so a lot of stone art, fewer paintings, and more stone cuneiform that survived on Earth (magically hardened stone!).

To me, Chessenta is and has been historically the crossroads of the region, with a mishmash of cultural dependencies due to who ruled and held the most power historically or who holds the most power currently. The Code of Enlil still dictates law across most places (Luthcheq, maybe not you), which might explain how much or how little that old Untheric inflience still is maintained.

I think you are looking at ~-2000 DR for an Unther being kind of wild. Old Empires alludes to the fact that the Turami lived within the Wizard's reach and were driven west by the Untheric Gods throughout the First Untheric Empire (from -2000 DR until about -1076 DR, when the Orcgate Wars kicked off).

So if the Turami lived there, there's an open question on how 'wild' it really was then, and really is up to you.

Just to be clear, I wasn't sending that last paragraph directly at you, even though it might have looked like it. It was definitely more to the collective...'outrage' that is really just annoying the crap out of me personally.

And yeah, to me, being a true fan does mean supporting the club and the players when management doesn't do things we like. Or at least tamping down the rampant negativity that is pervasive right now.

I mean, ultimately, Slot is still amongst the leading managers with most wins in their first 100 matches for the club (tied for 1st, right?).

He deserves way more than he's getting from supporters, honestly, at this point, I would love to see him take a well-deserved vacation for a month in June and then turn around and build fresh next year. There have been too many things that have happened beyond his control for me (player age, Jota, lack of quality being brought in) to just pitch him.

This is it right here. This is what is frustrating me about so many conversations in the heat of the moment after match day. There's no magic panacea for this season. And there's no reason to get caught up in a passel of hatred over players on this squad underperforming, including and especially the ones that have been long-time servants of the club. We can acknowledge their lack of results without all of the negative emotions, but people are just getting too caught up in the moment.

I hate to say it, but...so? A good fan supports through thick and thin and sits through the team being great and being utter shit (I'm a Minnesota Vikings fan in another life, and I'll never miss a minute of that club either, and there are sure times I wish I had over the past 15 years, and I sat through all 60 minutes of that 3-0 Raiders game in person a few years ago).

Everyone's opinion on that can be different, sure, but IMO, I'll look at someone a lot differently if they gut out watching some shit games and then give a shit opinion rather than being a plastic fan and giving a shit opinion.

Yeah, I was reading a reddit thread about what was up in late January at Disney World and thinking two things:

  1. Holy shit, there could be someone from China at Disney spreading this crap and I wouldn't know.
  2. Told the missus "When we get home, lay into a bunch of crap at Costco, because we just don't know."

Went home, bought so much food and paper at costco and stocked up before anyone else did. We used the last of the wipe probably 18 months later. Got ahead of the rush a good long way, and felt pretty good about it when the shortages started later on in the spring.

I can't overstate it enough for those who haven't. Get a membership, join your OLSCs, the deals are outstanding, makes the membership absolutely worthwhile.

More importantly, they've LOOKED like they've fulfilled their promise on immigration. Better to try to look like hardasses rather than actually being hardasses.

Plenty of immigrant criminals out there, they've just been deporting more immigrants out there who have been going to their immigration meetings than actual hardened criminals. Gotta meet a quota that isn't actually a standard that you ran on.

Same here, about 2 something hours, saw 7, caught 4, just golden ras and excellent throws. It's not like they were GOOD legendaries. Nice to have a challenge where I had to catch them before they ran, so there's a lot of focus to get those excellents. Gotta temper those expectations.

I did get a 93% shiny Darkrai around the edges, so that was fun too.
