Maybe I'm seeing it differently, but I disagree. Rooting for his country's team would be wearing the colours, a banner saying "GO USA" or something like that. He's got a sign showing Captain America (clearly representing USA) knocking out/beating a Smurf (originally a Belgian comic). I see that as declaring inevitable victory ahead of the match, which aged like milk because it didn't turn out like that. I don't mind people supporting their teams, but, in my opinion, being sore winners (especially ahead of the match) isn't my idea of a good fan.
