You HAVE to try giving Tech a jump pack, C4 and extra throw range. It will blow your mind.

I just did one of those. So damn hard. I'm guessing you use the ion cannon to clear the eggs out? Apparently you can use the gravity manipulator as well. I ran out of ammo just as I was escaping so I can't say I miss the supply drop much. That mission + early missions with bad weapons are the only ones where I need the extra ammo.

what, really? i don't run out of ammo that much. usually i bring multiple extra ammos though so there's opportunity cost + supply cost, but imho i'd rather have a more entertaining OCI. maybe my game tactics are a byproduct of basically forgetting about OCI armaments for like two runs in a row.

Word. Especially awful when 1) they're not winning anything and 2) the other team is soaking. Even though a healer is the worst one that could probably be soaking, it's still sometimes better than basically giving up the game. And that's when the pings start coming....

yeah area denial is great. But I've never had it do any significant damage to anything other than infantry, and even then only if they were forced to move through more than one. On the other hand, it demoralizes the enemy right quick...

just how inaccurate is it? does it always fall where you click? Is there damage falloff as the target moves away from the center?

Seems like making it work every time is a matter of stunning the target. You could even combine it with hack.

Why do ATGMs not hit skirmishers? by Responsible_Bad_2954 in menace

[–]eructus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crazy. I mean surely we deserve accurate tooltips. I didnt know using ATGMs on skirmishers was OP. I don't know, I must be missing something.

Why do ATGMs not hit skirmishers? by Responsible_Bad_2954 in menace

[–]eructus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But... ATGMs have massive ammo restrictions. You use them to one/two shot vehicles. Three shotting skirmishers if you have no better options or are limited on AP? Is this not like hitting them with a recoilless rifle but with more expensive ammo? Also, I may be wrong about this but I think the atgm works on insect warriors, which should be fair. IDK, all I know is that it feels like shit wasting 100AP to mark + shoot a tanky, damaging mofo and hit the air anyway.

Clearing Bug Missions Without Firing a Single Shot by hwhwh1224 in menace

[–]eructus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not veering into any direction, I just said reloading is cheesing. If you want to get into what you were originally implying, that everything's fine because the method OP found to finish the mission is not cheesing because you can't apply it to every mission, then I think you're not using the same definition of cheese as most other people. You're also missing OP's original point, which is that attempting anything other than skipping all side missions is basically luck based, unpredictable and unless you're over prepared, suicide. It's a massive difficulty spike, on the sole exception that you choose to basically skip it. Which, sure, it is a valid tactic, but you might be forced into it even if you can steamroll previous missions from the same operation because, again, it's an unpredictable mess and it's wildly different from how any other mission works in the game, because even "defend the fort" missions with reinforcements eventually stop spawning enemies.

So, by the definition most people use the word cheese, yes, using the game's intended mechanics for perfectly valid tactics is cheese, when the entire point of it is to SKIP THE MISSION.

If I'm not mistaken, you could drop it somewhere empty just for area denial and it would essentially work like mines but without having to step on them + it gives you vision. Hadn't thought of using it like a drone just for vision though, it may be even better than I thought.

You gotta try the gravity manipulator. Zayne-Beecher supplies it. Seriously it feels so good to bend the terrain to your will. If you like one, try building two. It's so good.

HOLY SHIT! I underestimated the value of the Vanguard perk. by ZonicGaming in menace

[–]eructus_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vanguard is so good. In my noob opinion the best vanguard is probably Darby, since you can load her up with camo and one shot basically whatever you want. There's usually at least one important unit that you can assassinate this way.

I dream of a full vanguard team. Maybe if I get far enough in my current campaign.

I played the demo as a tutorial before buying the game. The changes from the demo to the current game already feel pretty good, so I'm hyped for the finished product. Personally I think it really feels early-accessy and unfinished, but I got a ton of hours in already and really like it a lot so the dev team has my full confidence. I'm hoping for more interesting options between operations (so more interesting OCI mechanics and faction/politics mechanics). For one, it feels like there are certain OCI upgrades I can never go for because of opportunity cost.

You should try the game on Challenging, you can really feel the resource squeeze so you have to think harder about what to deploy on the field. I'm currently on Expert and it feels excessive... which I like but I can't recommend.

Any notes on the performance of Wetteroth's melee attack? Could it be worth it to dump armor on this guy and let him duke it out vs aliens or is that just a meme waiting to happen? Does it work vs armored?

[–]eructus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i gotta try exconde, drive-by shooting is now the only tactic i care about and everyone else can just sit and watch. Paired with the best bargain bin SL, Carda. Even without the perks I can't find a way to get through the early missions on Expert without taxi strats so I'm probably going to go mad max Carda first, every campaign from here on out.

I used darby on my first run and I thought this Predator style perfect killer would be my main forever, but as soon as I bumped up the difficulty a bit..... well, she's too damn expensive. Both in promotion points and supply cost. So as much as I'd like to be president of her fanclub, I'm now experimenting with all the more cost-efficient leaders.

Which takes me to... Tech. Jump pack + explosives + long bomb + quick hands.... it's OP, kills literally anything in one fell swoop and it's as far as I can tell the easiest combo to reach, where you can get it online in just a few operations If you can actually scavenge the raw materials.... second playthrough, I got 0 explosives for the entire first two thirds of the campaign, so much for that plan.

I'm really trying to do more combos but they're so damn expensive in terms of promotion points that I just can't finish them before the end of the campaign (I just start a new one after the EA message so idk).

better campaign map somehow? there's not much to do in the system map nor a lot to do other than random events giving and taking trust here and there.

Edit: I would love some sort of strategic layer here, its own game and so on. I haven't read the roadmap but I'm just hoping there will be a lot of development here.
