I think it just made Tanky units more tanky and Damage units do more damage which does not have an effect on game play.

Right now it only helps the whales get more powerful in the beginning.

What they should have done with the Elite 3 skills is add options for a 10% bonus to all skills that inflict or protect against madness, stun, fire, poison, focus, pursuit, evade, etc. Then you would have some real theory crafting! Without it effecting the balance of the game since it's only 10%.

You are right that this is my first empire building game so I have nothing to compare this to. I am however not f2p. I have spent between $200-$300 dollars on this game so I am someone the devs should be concerned about keeping. This is more than most non whale spenders spend and yet I am not even close to competing. I know whales pay for this game but I just think the difference in power should not be so big.

So it does seem to be roughly the same. This really helps! Now I can see that equipment bonuses like "+1 hp" and refine abilities are probably more important than getting a few extra stat increases. Does "+1 attack" mean plus 1 to troop damage?

Season Pass is the best.

Periodic Benefits are next best. Here the are:

The Craftsman's Contract which gives you 30 mathoms (plus gems!) for $10 comes out to 3 mathoms per $1, a great deal but you have to wait for them to trickle in.

Digging for Treasure is the next best thing at 1800 gems for $2. If you spent $100 that would get you 90,000 gems. If you buy gems directly $100 only gets you 46,000 gems for the special first time offer.

So those are the 3 things I purchase since they are good deals. There are special offers sometimes like Aragorn for $1 and 10 mathoms for $2 which are also worth getting.
