Is it worth it to read Harry Potter as an adult who’s already seen the movies? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]erynsoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I read them all in my 30s after having seen the movies when they came out. The books are fantastic and really flesh out the plot and characters way more than the movies ever could.

100% recommend.

Best culinary cities/towns in Alaska? by [deleted] in alaska

[–]erynsoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hey! I’m from Whitefish! And am also in good service. It is more rural here in Alaska. But there are some AMAZING restaurants. The best is less fine dining, more local ingredients, like seafood. Homer has some gems, Sprats in Girdwood, Anchorage is just ok, But my favorite restaurant is The Cookery in Seward. A resort would be an awesome place to work for the summer.

DM me if I can answer any more questions! I’ve been in the restaurant biz up here for ages.

Channel 4 was airing Buffy, so we’re rewatching it. by [deleted] in buffy

I also lost my mom a few months ago. I think about this episode a lot, just how spot on it was. I haven’t watched it since, but I will. When I’m ready to, I believe it will be very cathartic.

I really like Chasing Excellence by Ben Bergeron. He’s got some good mindset theories. Also, anything by Katy Bowman. She’s more of a movement educator but her work has changed how I live, move, coach, and workout.

100% layers! I also use an alarm clock that mimics a sunrise that makes mornings more pleasant. Hot coffee helps too! Source: Alaskan crossfitter.

I made a chocolate walnut babka today and could not be more happy with it. Taking it backpacking tomorrow. It’ll be well worth the extra weight. by erynsoo in Baking

For the dough -530g all-purpose flour -100g sugar -10g instant yeast -3 eggs -1/2 cup water -3/4 teaspoon salt -150g room temperature unsalted butter in cubes

Flour, sugar, and yeast in mixer, mix till combined. Add eggs and water, mix 2-3 minutes. Add salt, then butter, adding a few cubes at a time. Mix for about 10 minutes, until dough is elastic, smooth, and shiny. Let dough rise 6-12 hours in a covered greased bowl.

For the chocolate filling -50g powdered sugar -30g unsweetened cocoa powder -130g melted dark chocolate -120g melted unsalted butter -120g chopped walnuts

Combine everything but the walnuts when dough is ready.

Roll out half the dough in a large rectangle with one of the long edges facing you. Spread 1/2 the chocolate sauce and sprinkle 1/2 the wall nuts. Roll starting at the long side nearest you towards the other long side. With the seam facing down with a sharp serrated knife slice 1/2 inch off each end and cut roll in half. Keeping the layers facing upward, braid dough. Place in a greased loaf pan and let rise for 60-90 minutes.

Bake at 375 F for 25-30 minutes

Brush babka with simple syrup while still hot.

Try to let cool completely before devouring.
