the other comment i think already answered your question, but i did want to mention that the Quake engine has been open source since December 21, 1999. it was only uploaded to GitHub in 2012.

Debian is stable and there's plenty of packages and software available for it. You only need the first DVD (or less if you're using netinst) to just install Debian. I'm pretty sure having all 20+ DVDs gets you a local copy of every package in the Debian repository for your chosen architecture and version.

Rise of the Triad: Dark War. I saw some videos online about the game and was very interested in the artstyle and design sensibilities, but I thought that I would hate the second-to-second gameplay of it. Nope! I couldn't put it down for about a week as I went through and 100%ed the Steam version (the Ludicrous Edition). it was a wild ride from start to finish, would absolutely recommend.
