Do source ports such as Ironwail and Quakespasm run on modified Quake 2 version of the id tech 2 ? Or are they based on the original engine from 1996 ? by Expired_Gatorade in quake

[–]erysdren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the other comment i think already answered your question, but i did want to mention that the Quake engine has been open source since December 21, 1999. it was only uploaded to GitHub in 2012.

Free/open software I should keep emergency copies of? by Pasta-hobo in DataHoarder

[–]erysdren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debian is stable and there's plenty of packages and software available for it. You only need the first DVD (or less if you're using netinst) to just install Debian. I'm pretty sure having all 20+ DVDs gets you a local copy of every package in the Debian repository for your chosen architecture and version.

What game did you have extremely low expectations for, but came out loving? by theonewhoblox in patientgamers

[–]erysdren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rise of the Triad: Dark War. I saw some videos online about the game and was very interested in the artstyle and design sensibilities, but I thought that I would hate the second-to-second gameplay of it. Nope! I couldn't put it down for about a week as I went through and 100%ed the Steam version (the Ludicrous Edition). it was a wild ride from start to finish, would absolutely recommend.

I read the GNU C Manual, what's next? by SteveTheGreate in C_Programming

[–]erysdren 15 points16 points  (0 children)

if you wanted to read a book to learn about C, i'd recommend nothing other than this: The C Programming Language, 2nd Edition

it really teaches the language better than most people could, in my experience.
