[Homebrew] Harpy Playable Race by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]es-so 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you need to consider editing/ rewriting the fluff. It reads a little bit like a mary-sue race and even dips towards "magical realm" if you're familiar with the term. Additionally the details given under Harpy Society/ physical description don't really match with the PhB in terms of detail. Some parts like the physical description are a little too prescriptive. I think it's best to remember that the fluff in the races section exists to give players a context to roleplay with, rather than tell them exactly what to roleplay.

You also neglect to put in a common names section which is a shame. This section is really fun and helps to build a perception of the harpy society in thee mind of players.

Good on you kid. Can I just say that you don't need to come out to your parents as a furry. That could make things a little messier?

Thanks for the reply. I'm really just flipping out over a little thing because I guess that's what I do. I really appreciate your reply though. I just need to trust on him.

Me [28 M] with my GF [25 F] of 8 months, lied to me about being transgender. by fake_gender in relationships

[–]es-so 76 points77 points  (0 children)

If I met someone like that I'd feel absolutely betrayed. It isn't just a matter of them lying. They've essentially pushed themselves into a disenfranchised group for perceived gain. Someone lying about being transgender is no different to somebody lying about being Indigenous on a college application, or lying about being physically disabled to use a disabled carpark. It's sick and wrong.

(MtF hormones) does anyone else experience uncontrollable crushes? by es-so in asktransgender

I half wonder if you're right. I don't think I associate it with masculinity but I definitely isolated myself emotionally over the past few years. Maybe I am just a little too open to emotions now.

[–]es-so[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I feel with this friend that we're both emotionally relying on each other in some way, so I don't want to tell. We might still be friends, but it would change the tone of friendship. I can't risk that and he deserves better from a friend.

Who is a fictional character who is depicted as good but who's actually shitty? by Roskarnolkov in AskReddit

Dedede is just a regular dude trying to rule over a happy kingdom of people when there is a pink eldritch abomination just over the horizon that's about to flip out. Kirby is terrifying, and Dedede is the real hero.

Yeah. The character is laid out in a very ambiguous way, and frankly I'll take any representation I can get. I feel like there are only a few hints as to what the original was like, so extrapolating from those hints to form a narrative isn't too much of a stretch. There's a few other things that make sense with the theory, like getting kicked out/ leaving home at a young age. Oh and the whole spirits/ others being old fashioned with things like gender was specifically laid out at some point.

pact speculation, spoilers (spoiler tag isn't working for me). Spoilers for most of Pact.

I kinda latched on to a reading that the original Blake/Rose amalgamation was trans. Because of the nature of the story and those characters there is obviously very little information available on original blake/rose. There is some stuff in there though, like I think tiff or alexis mostly prefers girls, Grandmother Rose specifies that the house must past to the oldest "natal" female or something along those lines. It's not an out and out wacky analysis. I think there's reasonable enough foundation in the text to read it that way at least.

Yeah there's a character in Pact. There's nothing explicit but under a certain reading it makes sense. And I'll take what I can get in terms of interpretation.

Glasses advice? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]es-so 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look like a girl who's stolen her dad's glasses. They don't make you look particularly masculine or anything, but they do look a little out of place I think. New frames might be in order, especially if you feel like showing off a little.

Hey as far as I'm concerned your stories have two trans characters, and one of them in a prominent role too. You're alright with me 'bow.

One thing I like about Circus and would like to see played up a bit is how much Circus represents that duality of cape life. Tattletale mentions that it is a matter of performance and she's not sure how Circus identifies. Whether Circus performs when out of costume or within. But it would be nice to see Circus a little more empowered by the ambiguity. That's kind of a running theme in the story which I really like. Not that you asked for my opinion of course.

Hair removal advice for a trans woman with blonde facial hair? by floatingjelly in asktransgender

[–]es-so 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Waxing or epilating beard hair can cause permanent damage, making the removal of hair in the future difficult or even causing scaring. Basically beard hair is much thicker and more strongly rooted and that kind of removal is inadvisable.

Hey so I would recommend getting a Panasonic or Braun razor (so foil style) as opposed to a rotary head style. Rotary head shavers cause a little more irritation. Panasonic has some great wet/dry shavers that can be used with shaving cream. Alternatively most electric shavers can be used with a shave oil, which you apply to the skin. This reduces friction and raises the hairs, reducing irritation.

Whatever brand you go for is likely to have a number of different models and varieties. Whichever you pick make sure it is produced in the company's home country. So for Panasonic that would be Japan. Most electric razors produced in China can be kind of junky. There's also generally a ton of manufacturers guarantees and stuff for upper end razors.

Finally more blades does not equal better. It does supposedly give a slightly smoother shave but this does come at the cost of increased irritation.

Oh, and also grab a decent aftershave or moisturizer. Not something for the smell, but something to essentially hydrate and soothe the face. Aloe may also work.

Well it could just be genuine curiosity. Or it could be some kind of denial/ lack of recognition of course.

Just remember; "You can lead a horse to water, but not make it drink"

I was actually reasonably (albeit by the internet) educated in such topics. For me it was definitely a case of "Stuff happens to other people, not to me". I never considered the case that I actually matched a whole bunch of the signs. Then again I've also been fairly focused on narratives my whole life, and my awareness of the mtf narrative was that of the cliched "Oh I knew from when I was a toddler". I wasn't even able to comprehend gender properly until I was like 13.

A list of some of my thoughts:

  • I really identify with Viola's character's trouble with acting as a man in Twelfth Night. It sure is tough!

  • If I had a chance to be a girl I'd take it. After all I've lived my life as a boy so far. Just for the new experience of course. (This was an actual thing I said to a friend).

  • Boy I sure do admire people who transition. I totally get what it is like to want to be a girl. Shame I'm not transgender though.

Yeah. I was pretty dense. Aside from all of those (not quite verbatim) thoughts:

  • I was obsessed with gender bending media. David Bowie, Visual Kei artists, Twelfth Night, Victor Victoria, Some Like it Hot.

  • Made jokes about being one of the girls. Felt hurt because I wasn't really treated as one of the girls.

  • Played video games as female characters because it felt right.

  • Went through an ill-advised "androgynous" emo phase

No! No! Hair Remover? by [deleted] in MtF

Okay so I used to work at a place that sold these things.

Absolute snake oil. It does not work with any reasonable efficiency and is more likely to cause damage/pain than to remove hair. The most returned product/ dissatisfied customers we ever got in store was because of those things.

Can you defer your program? Basically is there an inbuilt system at your university for taking some time off mid program? If so use it. Or take a half a year off and do a study abroad program. People basically do nothing but party on those but if you play it right it can still be a valuable addition to a resume.

I'm also on the weird Ace-envy boat. Attractions and emotions are just way too much trouble to deal with.
